‘Witness’ is more like it. Since GK didn’t exactly do much to prevent the theft, and in fact could even be considered an accomplice of Pete.
Its possible they both get in trouble for this since its true he did kind of let him do it.
But who says Heaven counts assisting a criminal as a crime?
Standing by and letting something happen though doesn’t make you an accessory to a crime. The rules of the game they played were also clear, GK isn’t responsible for what happened to king. How ever, once the rule was broken he did not decide to do any thing about it, despite being the mediator of the game.
_technically_ if they are all omniscient, or nearly so, then they all knew Pete was going to do it. Thus, they are all accessories, knowing he was going to steal the soul. And even Pete knew he was going to get caught. _IF_ any of them bothered to peek at the future. But where’s the fun in that?
By that logic Bahamut’s an accessory too.

That’s not exactly that spectacular a thing to notice considering that:
A) Rick seems to have an in-depth knowledge of the game and
B) Pretty much every mythical creature ever has found it’s way into DnD at some point or another.

Though the design is slightly, at least the wheel is confirmed as being, based on Final Fantasy X’s Bahamut summon, I can see what you mean by looking like a Digimon.
Pete’s definitely looking cuter than usual. Of course Mr. Griffin would give the griffin special consideration outside the 4th wall.

Frankly, it is a widely accepted view among those who consider such things that there can be no such thing as more than one truly omniscient being, because it leads to all sorts of absurdities. For the sake of *all* of our sanity, it would be best to let that comment pass
Well, there’s always just the ‘divine powers are special’ clause, where things that are otherwise all-whatever do not affect other deities.
In this case, omniscient refers to being all-knowing regarding everything that isn’t inherently on the same ‘plane’ of power as themselves.
So, they can know everything that has or will happened, yet not know what Pete will do at any point.
Heck, they can even know what the consequences of his actions will be and still not know what he’ll do – for example, a different group of beyond-mortal beings (Pete hardly seems a god, after all, but they’re clearly beyond the realm of mortality, so I don’t know what to call them) might know that the major of a city will decide to stay home with his wife on such and such a date, yet not know it is the trickster of the group who convinced him to do so until they actually observe the event – it is generally accepted that divine beings cannot bring such observational knowledge backwards in time, even if thye are normally exempt from ordinary spacetime.
They may already know whether Pete’s guilty without having to go through any sort of trial, but appearences are important!

Well, I read the comic, enjoyed it quite nicely (Nice one, Kitsune!), and then looked back at the dragon to try and figure out who it was.
Looked at him for a few minutes, looked behind him, saw the wheel, said “Is that Bahamut?”, looked at the tags, felt stupid for not looking in the first place, then felt excited for being right.
Thank goodness for Final Fantasy X.

For me, it was more, “Dragon. Heaven dragon. We’ve had well known mystical creatures before and since it’s a big kahuna dragon, it’s got to be Bahamut or Tiamat, I can’t tell its gender. Since it’s Heaven (i.e. good), that’s got to be Bahamut. Can’t wait next comic to see if I’m right!” I later look down in the tags and squeal! I was RIGHT!

He’s the dragon boss from Final Fantasy X Rick decided to make him look even more epic with some changes of course!
Not just FFX, every numbered FF game except 2. He’s also not a boss in X, except in the International version. Though, the wheel design did come from X.
Bahamut actually has roots that extend to long before Final Fantasy X, but he only really got dragonized (that’s definitely a word) in recent history. It does appear that FFX was an influence for this incarnation, however.
I like the word “dragonize”……it’s a valid describtoin and happened a lot recently……

Bahamut/Behemoth is a giant fish, later depicted as a sea serpent and then Garry [expletive deleted] Gygax decided to turn that into some kind of dragon thing. Which I never knew until I tried to figure out why a dragon was being called “bahamut” in this strip and googled it. (My D&D group used their own bestiary, not the silly TSR monsters)
Well, to be fair, Gygax’ talent lay in game-creation, not so much story-creation…
Thank him for having one of the more easy-to-use role-playing games, and one that while hardly ‘balanced’ is at least close enough to be fun.
Take his story-telling, module-making, and bestiary with a grain of salt <.<
Especially the modules.
Easy to use? Maybe compared to Chivalry and Sorcery or Empire of the Petal Throne. If you wanted “easy” you played Tunnels and Trolls. If you wanted clean and straightforward you played Runequest.
I’m still bitter about The Fantasy Trip. That was clean _and_ easy, and it got eaten in the Steve Jackson – Metagaming breakup.

I seem to be seeing Pete’s arm sticking too far out. The lining of his chest suggests that he is angled towards a position that is only slightly tilted from being just looking straight ahead. The way that the Cerberus (sorry if I don’t know or forgot her name

Don’t get me wrong, I love this art style. Sure there isn’t much shading compared to other web comics I read, but I love these vivid and pleasant colors. Even when the mood is clearly trying to portray sorrow or pain, the colors give a sort of childish feeling that minimizes the feeling of distress in order to…be great. Yeah, I kind of ran out of words there.
It may be on a uncomfortable position but i dont think is out of limits.
This arc really seems to lower pete from the all powerfull evil being that he once was.

Crow: What’s with this omniscient thing? Would that come under the “Only-When-It’s-Funny” trope?
Servo: Maybe if you “know everything” you know not only what will happen, but everything that can possibility happen. Throw in free will and you have omniscient beings changing their minds about the future. Like Terry Pratchett’s Mrs. Cake, if you answer a question that has not yet been asked, you end up with a blinding headache if the other guy decides he no longer needs to ask the question. Therefore it is polite to act as if you are not omniscient.
Joel: I was thinking along the lines of the oracle in some other web comic who knew everything, but not all at once.
