Especially powerful in the presence of an avatar of Chaos.
Hmmm… Babylonian gods. Chaos.
Pete: “Yes, the fox, he’s chosen to be my avatar.”
Kitsune: “Sorry, he’s already taken!”
Pete: “By whom?”
Tiamat: “Hi honey!”
Pete: “Oh no, I thought you weren’t allowed to play any more…”
Tiamat: “That was a mistake, and hardly anyone noticed what happened to that universe anyway…”
Well some people have foxes as pets. In certain places it’s legal. In my field of work (when I get my diploma) I will be taking animals like wolves, foxes, tiger, etc into my house to raise them until they are olf enough to go in their own habitat
I’ve read an article in National Geographic about people genetically domesticating foxes. I have no Idea if that’s going to become something in the future.
Are they in the house, or the temple? Because if they are in the temple, it looks a lot like a garage.
I kid, I kid, but I look forward to this whole shorter plots that pick up again later thing. Makes it feel like a “now lets go see what the others are doing right now” moment to me, which I enjoy.
But he is neither a Dog or a Cat so he couldn’t be Pete’s Avatar anyway. Pete’s Avatar is most likely going to be Max, Bino, Fox, or Sasha. I’m going with Max since Grape (and Peanut) is special to the game in some way and it would give Pete the same advantage Dragon has because of Tarot dating Peanut.
Spiritually, foxes are dogs _and_ cats all rolled into one catlike canine.
But if Kitsune is like most GMs, letting a new player in the middle of the game is no problem, and bending the rules to the breaking point to surprise the existing players is just par for the course.
Alternatively, well, that is a real Babylonian temple, so it could easily have a real Babylonian god hanging around wanting in on the action.
When I saw the “neither dog nor cat” thing in the last strip’s comments, I started thinking.
(Here, the audience will be forgiven if they think of Sgt Hulka’s reaction in the movie Stripes, in the mortar scene.)
Where was it said that they’re limited to just dogs or cats as avatars? Sure, that’s a majority of the actual pets in Babylon Gardens, but there are other species there, and I’d hazard a guess that Zach isn’t the only domesticated animal that is neither a cat nor a dog.
But surely “dogs and cats” is really just a way of saying “pets”, or even “animals” in general, and therefore Karishad’s fair game as an avatar?
Well, it wouldn’t be Pete if he didn’t at least *try* that arguement… e.e
Though it might not be that hard to trick Karishad into inadvertantly giving “permission” to change him into a dog or cat, provided you bait the trap with a nice juicy pun…
I very highly doubt that they would use “Cats and Dogs” to mean all animals because then Pete would just go for one of the Ferrets right away, they would be closer and easier to get then Joel/King (and less rule bending) or Grape.
Plus they would provide him with access to all the Milton Money (even if he had picked one of them before Mr. Milton died)
except the kitsunes the game master so he could get any avatar he wants but petes just a player and I’am 90% sure he couldn’t get even implied consent to turn karishad into a dog or cat
So we finally get an arc with focus put on one of my favorite characters(that being the trickster Karishad, King is obviously another favorite), AND THEN we get a break a few strips in. I can wait since it has at least started.
Once upon a time, there was no snake, there was no scorpion,
There was no hyena, there was no lion,
There was no wild dog, no wolf,
There was no fear, no terror,
Man had no rival.
In those days, the land Shubur-Hamazi,
Harmony-tongued Sumer, the great land of the me of princeship,
Uri, the land having all that is appropriate,
The land Martu, resting in security,
The whole universe, the people well cared for,
To Enlil in one tongue gave speech.
Then the lord defiant, the prince defiant, the king defiant,
Enki, the lord of abundance, whose commands are trustworthy,
The lord of wisdom, who scans the land,
The leader of the gods,
The lord of Eridu, endowed with wisdom,
Changed the speech in their mouths, put contention into it,
Into the speech of man that had been one.
Perhaps in the housepets universe, instead, Enki gave his gift of languages to the “hyena, the lion, the wild dog, the wolf”… and gave man a rival not by humbling man, but by raising up the animals instead.
Seems to have something to do with equalizing humans and animals in a very literal sense, basically something along the lines of what happened to Joel when he was changed into King. I’d assume that was an over-the-top case but you never know, that could actually be par for the course.
Keene seems to be seeking some redemption of his own through this, he apparently became scared by what he’d become (remember what a jerk he was to his pilot back in the last Zoo arc).
Traditionally, the next thing they’ll do is take an old-dusty journal out of the box and start reading. I wonder what horrid secrets they will find. O_o
Haha!
No sense of self preservation, definitely not. Next scene he is forcibly jamming a pencil down the garbage disposal in the sink.
You always know how to make a good joke, brightens my already bright day. I am going to put on my sunglasses…
Wait, Karishad totally acknowledges his uncontrollable mischievousness? Wow.
And that’s a big ferret if he’s almost as tall as a fox…and don’t tell me it’s ‘cuz ferts are long, ‘cuz Rick ain’t drawing ‘em with long torsos. Necks, maybe, but not long torsos.
The sizes of animals in HP don’t match the sized of animals in our world. Look at Grape’s size compared to the bigger dogs… a RL cat is more eye-to-eye with a corgi.
They say just push in to get it off. Just push in. I need a pair of scissors, nail clippers, lighter, a machete, chainsaw, handgun, and a lightsaber to get it off
Something about Keene now, it’s like he’s been humbled by the time spent in the zoo. Because I don’t see any fancy shades or hat or any other such prop that might hint at him being rich. He’s just wearing a collar like any other pet.
Or maybe he’s just been humbled by Karishad, since he took his glasses off last strip.
It’s probably more that keeping the shades on in a dark place (hence the flashlight) is somewhat counterproductive. Also, he doesn’t usually wear the shades when indoors, even if the room isn’t dark.
Karishad is now on my top10 list of characters and he is pretty high up there! This is seeming like a India Jones plot set up, and I can just see Karishad with the hat and whip! …………… In case you didn’t know this is my foreshadowing guess! :£
Because people in general are afraid of change and will defend what they believe, regardless of if it is right or wrong, with a persistence that is rarely matched elsware.
There’s just too much left hanging here. What’s Keene’s plan, what’s Karishad’s role in it, why is Steward concerned about the temple, what is Keene going to do to Steward…?
And Keene is still naked!
karishad i meant >.>
But to trust him? Sure anyone would
He’s not naked!
…He’s wearing that finger trap, after all :3
…Should have made this to your correction
Very true
But how did the finger trap get so huge?
Rule of Funny.

I am surprised. Karishad has been very serious for *counts* one minute!!
oh that karishad!
I would want him as a pet wouldnt you?
Erm…no.
… and hug him and squeeze him and call him George …
You made me choke on my cereal when i red that, oh the memories…
Glad to be of service!
I Prefer is green or blue myself.
No way, I’d like to keep my sanity and property safe.
As a fox wouldn’t he have like all kinds of wild diseases? Not typically an animal for petting…outside that episode of Mongrels
There’s also the fact to consider that he wasn’t exactly a wild fox. He was a zoo fox. Zoo staff make sure to keep their animals clean of disease.
I would call him Squishy and he would be mine.
lol but i think that only applies to jellyfish
Alt Text: Well, you weasles are the masters of tubes… help me out here!
–And in other news, plot details! Lovin’ it so far. c:
He’s got it backwards. It’s the tubes that are masters of the weasels.
this is the most well behaved we’ve seen kerishad so far… i think
bdw self preservation is for pansies!
Wait is the arc over already? seriously? Or are we just moving to a secondary plot? Tell me its a secondary plot.
I don’t want to burn myself out on yea many long plots in a row, I want to try doing shorter plots with breaks between
So the arc is over? How long will we have to wait to find out what is going on here because this is actually interesting.
AUGH! Cliffhanger! And the previous arc in this thread was a cliffhanger too!
OH MY GOD, YOU’RE RICK GRIFFIN!!!
A most astute observation.
Maybe it’s a primary plot!
Easter-Egg plot?
Notice the “to be continued” itll happen…. unless of course the evil “forget fairy” visits Rick and then we will all be doomed.
Karishad’s running the show, we’re doomed anyway.
wait a minute…did anyone else notice that Karishad’s eyes are…green?
I had to go back and check.
They’ve ALWAYS been green.
Or the evil death fairy D:
That’s definitely in my list of “Top 10 Things That Better Not Happen Soon”.
I’d hate to be immortal myself (I’d get bored after a while), but if such a thing existed I’d make sure every great webcomic artist out there got it.
I accidentally on purpose.
But his purpose is accidents.
“What is this “self preservation” you speak of?” he says while sticking his head in the bear trap to see if it’s working.
They’re in Keene’s secret lair. He’s pulling weasel-sized Indiana Jones adventure materials out of that box. Plus finger traps of course.
I’m thinking attic. You know, the place where various odds and ends end up being stored and forgotten. And occasionally unearthed.
Now things are coming together.
Weasels prefer to prowl the Interblag, being made of a series of tubes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3xAeTmsJfg
Long ferret is long! x3
Inter tubes, web tubes, other tubes, yes, but I don’t think we’re good at those tubes. Sigh, fine, where are the scissors?
So the plot thickens…..time for a cliffhanger. XD
for those who are on smart phones
“well, you weasels are the masters of tubes . . . help me out here!”
Im beginning to think karishad is the kitsunes avitar, dont know why but this mini arc seems to be making me think that way.
That’s funny… I’m busy convincing myself that the point of this arc is to have Karishad be Pete’s avatar.
But he is neither a Dog or a Cat so he couldn’t be Pete’s Avatar anyway. Pete’s Avatar is most likely going to be Max, Bino, Fox, or Sasha. I’m going with Max since Grape (and Peanut) is special to the game in some way and it would give Pete the same advantage Dragon has because of Tarot dating Peanut.
derp sorry your comment wasn’t posted when I started my post wish there was some thing I could do about it
Its fine don’t worry about it.
Spiritually, foxes are dogs _and_ cats all rolled into one catlike canine.

Huh, I’d even read that strip within the last few days. My mistake.
Karishad’s eyes….are green….could he be….already in the game?
is it me, or does his personality seem A LOT like the kitsune’s?
I very highly doubt that they would use “Cats and Dogs” to mean all animals because then Pete would just go for one of the Ferrets right away, they would be closer and easier to get then Joel/King (and less rule bending) or Grape.

It has to take a special skill to get all of your fingers stuck in a finger trap.
Well he IS Karishad, he could do the impossible
Karishad also sees the invisible.
OMG first time Continue!!!
*Somewhat confused, gets up and walks away without leaving a comment* -_-
seconded!
Hah! Too late!
Sometimes the most illogical thing it the most logical choice.
In layman terms, “You aren’t scared of dying. At all.”
Sad thang is i know a LOT of people like that….Ok everybody i know is like that
So we finally get an arc with focus put on one of my favorite characters(that being the trickster Karishad, King is obviously another favorite), AND THEN we get a break a few strips in. I can wait since it has at least started.
but that’s not supposed to fit his whole paw! he’s got some skill to be able to do that x3
He’s lucky he didn’t stick his pointy muzzle into it.
This scene made me think of something:
Here’s a real ancient Mesopotamian tablet, from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enki
Once upon a time, there was no snake, there was no scorpion,
There was no hyena, there was no lion,
There was no wild dog, no wolf,
There was no fear, no terror,

Interesting, I wonder if Rick has read or investigated something about this…
This is quite an interesting theory. I like it and hope it’s true
There’s a god of The Tower of Babel?!?
This is the original version.
That fox reminds me of Chef Brian from Ctrl+Alt+Del for some reason.
Can someone translate aka dumb down what the theory is here? XD I dun get it
Rick still hasn’t explained old Mr Milton’s theory. We can but speculate on what it might be.
Seems to have something to do with equalizing humans and animals in a very literal sense, basically something along the lines of what happened to Joel when he was changed into King. I’d assume that was an over-the-top case but you never know, that could actually be par for the course.

…but the strip is episodic. Doesn’t “continued!” go without saying?
Yes but what Rick means by to be continued is he is moving on to another arc
I knew Karishad was going to get stuck on the finger trap, but ALL the hand?
hahahahaha
Talented talons there.
Must be magic!
Or a special ability…To..Disturb?
I like how even Karishad has trouble believing that someone’s trusting him!
…
…
I wonder if Book 1’s in the garage.
I second that!
How do you get your whole hand stuck in a finger trap…?!
Haha!
No sense of self preservation, definitely not. Next scene he is forcibly jamming a pencil down the garbage disposal in the sink.
You always know how to make a good joke, brightens my already bright day. I am going to put on my sunglasses…
~The Guy in the Background~
Karishad’s been handcuffed to control his power!
none can contain the mighty comedic power of KARISHAD!!!
Wonder where they are…
Wow, you’re right. I never noticed that before. Makes me wonder……
The sizes of animals in HP don’t match the sized of animals in our world. Look at Grape’s size compared to the bigger dogs… a RL cat is more eye-to-eye with a corgi.
Midget Grape meets King.
Broom to your face!
Clearly they use stilts or wear big thick high heel or disco shoes to compensate
Just look how small Lana is here: http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/08/07/in-a-laundry-bag-with-a-dollar-sign/
…or… they have the magical ability to grow and shrink at will
Sorry for my ignorance, but i’m still having some difficulty with this. Is Karishad a guy or a girl?
a guy.
I always hated those things, I could never escape without breaking them.
They say just push in to get it off. Just push in. I need a pair of scissors, nail clippers, lighter, a machete, chainsaw, handgun, and a lightsaber to get it off
Can I suggest a hacksaw?
Mythbusters time! Which of these tools is best at removing finger traps while simultainuously minimizing finger removal?
ooh, ooh, i know! the steak knife! no, the surgigal drill! no, wait, another finger trap! gyah, i’m so conflicted!
New favorite character: Karishad
Paw trap! lol
this fox is total crazy, i love he! xD
Something about Keene now, it’s like he’s been humbled by the time spent in the zoo. Because I don’t see any fancy shades or hat or any other such prop that might hint at him being rich. He’s just wearing a collar like any other pet.

Also, How come Keene’s neck is abnormaly longer than usual?
It’s just an illusion caused by the angle.
Why didn’t Mr. Milton trust this work to humans is a good question. Any theories Housepet-keteers?
Because people in general are afraid of change and will defend what they believe, regardless of if it is right or wrong, with a persistence that is rarely matched elsware.
Ok , I am either amazingly out of the loop or this came out of the woods far left of left field somewhere o.o
There’s just too much left hanging here. What’s Keene’s plan, what’s Karishad’s role in it, why is Steward concerned about the temple, what is Keene going to do to Steward…?
How will Karishad escape from the cursed finger trap of perpetual imprisonment?
