He says “Not again.” when he was kidnapped by Joel and the fat guy, and in the strip after that he says that hes heard PETAs rhetoric before. And this comic is called The First Time (referring to Fox’s Kidnapping).
Take notes Fox, this could come up again.

Is it just me, or does Grape look slightly older in this than in the last one? (as a kitten I mean) Maybe it’s the lack of lollipop…I dunno.

Maybe he redeems himself somehow? Though he is still a jerk in the present, so maybe not. I just wonder if hes this much of a jerk still.

There are cats other then Max in the neiborhood. It also could be that she feels she can change him from being a jerk.

Would be funny if Grape uses it as a trap to catch birds.

My experiece with window locks is that unlocking the window is fast and easy compared to actually getting the darn thing open once it’s unlocked. It seems more likely that Grape keeps it unlocked so she can have access *in* than out. Maybe she got locked out of the house and it started raining once? Or maybe she saw just that happen to someone else, say, Max, and decided it was a good idea to be prepared?
On a more serious note, i doubt she has as much trouble as being locked out of the house as Max. I think the window being unlocked would be for Max in certain emergencies. (That would be awesome in my opinion. Shows she cares for him <3)

Makes me wonder just why Max gets locked out in the first place. Perhaps he simply drives his dad up the wall until he snaps and tosses Max outside for the night? As for the rain, Max figures that if he spends the night with Grape, he won’t have to go back and apologise, and as a bonus, his dad will be up all night worrying about him.
Either that or Max already played the pity card the last few times this happened, and his dad has had enough…
His owner more than likely wants his pets to fend for themselves and has strict rules at home that have to be followed.
Oh, I dunno – I kinda think Max and Bino bring it on themselves as often as not…

What is weird is in all these years no one seemed to notice that Grape was a girl…
Well it was actually only about a year maybe year and a half at most until the official start of the strip. So while its very strange they didn’t its still plausible.
Besides, I think Mr. and Mrs. Sandwich were probably well aware when they signed the adoption papers. Oh, and changer her name from Princess Periwinkle.

I love origin stories, which is why I love Housepets Babies, but I’d like it just done once because it slows current plot development. My greatest wish is for King to eventually get tired of the wolves and move in with the Sandwiches because he’s basically familyless. I’ll settle for finding out how Max lost part of his ear for now. I should start commenting on each strip.
Also for those saying Max is mean I personally love him.

A little bit because Res is a boy, but Res has a charming personality so its fine. It would be much more concerning if Bino reminded you of your girlfriend.

But, seriously, being reminded by fictional creatures isn’t that strange o.O Res’ personality isn’t THAT based on being an anthro cat, so there’s plenty of similarity to a hypothetical human equivalent. Such as someone’s girlfriend.

I’m going to guess that Grape saves Fox and drags along Max which result’s in Fox’s dislike of cats because he feel ashamed and Max’s bite mark or something to that effect.

My fault I read that wrong. Since Fox has eased up on his dislike for cats in the present; What I think might happen is Grape is going to save him (or helping to save him in some way) which helped make him ease up. And Its possible she drags Max along as well.
I have this feeling that Max was somehow in on the kidnapping (directly leading to him landing in the pound and getting his ear chewed? We’ll see…), though I don’t know how that would word.

Its very unlikely hes going to end up in the pound for any reason.
Now, Max is a jerk, a huge massive jerk but I find it very very unlikely that Max would be in anyway connected to whoever has dognapped Fox. (PETA I would assume) That is going from jerk to complete monster territory.

Weird fox and max were bullies, not what I would think
It doesn’t surprise me with Fox. Fox is STILL a bully. Remember how he picks on peanut for fun right alongside Bino? Fox may be a swell guy to the people he considers ‘his kind,’ but he’s still pretty nasty to those who show that they’re different. (And his excuse that “Bino was doing it too, Bino is my friend” doesn’t cut it for me.) I like Fox, but he still has a lot of issues to be working out.
Yeah, as much as I like Fox he’s hardly a great guy all the time. Even his reaction to beat Bino up enough that he’s badly injured, while used as comedy, shows that Fox has quite a nasty temper. He only became more than a background character by being nice to King, and even then he sided with Bino over the watch (though King was at fault too since he threw it away plus Fox was unhappy about it being Joel’s) up until the very last moment. Also being mean to Peanut and Tiger all the ti me. When I say I’m surprised by Fox in this arc it’s because he’s acting more like the leader than Bino, which eventually flips. I have an idea of why he feels obligated to side with Bino all the time but I’ll leave speculation to the forums.

Fox can be pretty nasty at times, generally to everyone except King, Sasha and his family.
The kidnapping probably mellowed Fox out a bit. Maybe.

Also, I’m confused. Will this end up a Grapenut arc, or is this just to see adorable poppius? Because Grape was all embarrassed and red, but now it’s back to adorable poppius and kitties.
Its mostly about them as puppies and kittens. The possible Grapenut (or heck Gapres) stuff is just a subplot it will come back before the arc ends.

He started wearing it again on April first of that same year. Now let the fans speculate – why did Fox stop wearing the bandana and why did he start again?
hmmmm maybe he lost the original (or it got destroyed some how) maybe during the dognapping and had to buy a new one and the intervening time he was saving up money.
A generic yellow bandana is really cheap, like $0.99, so even with a measily $2 allowance, he should have been able to replace it easily. I mean, that ice cream bar he bought for King was more expensive…
Maybe it took him a long time to replace it because Walmart had stopped making that color, so it was a matter of finding some place that actually sold plain yellow bandanas? I sure know that sort of thing has happened to me… >.<
It could also be that it reminded him of the situation and by the time he bought another one he had finally gotten over it.
Or Rick just kind of messed up and forgot he didn’t have it at first and there is no explanation really.

Well, if you want to be technical, I’m pretty sure that the bandana was a later addition by Rick to Fox’s character design, and is present in the babies arc more through the power of retcon than anything else, but what fun is that?

has anyone noticed that kitten grape is never in the same strip as today’s Grape.
That’s probably due to the degree of separation beyween her and past as told by Peanut. To get them both in the same comic, you’d have to transition from a flashback as told by Peanut to Res to Grape interrupting into the conversation, which represents three different contexts. That’s much to complicated, flow wise, to do without a solid reason – I suspect we’ll only see that happen if The act of Grape jumping in is part of the joke.

You know, I never really believed that Fox had been kidnapped before. I always interpreted his “not again” as him remembering waking up without a collar in a strange place after he had been abandoned. Though I suppose it’s still possible that things will turn out that way, though less likely now.
Hrmm. We know that Pete is sort of a jerk, but it has also become evident that Maxwell is also sort of a jerk, at least as a kitten. Compare and contrast their jerkish tendencies. If one were to be your father-in-law, which one’s jerkness would be best suited to this position? Which one would have been more likely to get in trouble in school (Imagine that Max got shipped off to obidience school at some point, not that it helped…)? Which one would make a better (ok, worse) president, if you were forced to vote for one?
Something is telling me that we’ll find out what happened to Max’s ear. C:

When Grape first met Res, she spent a few hours telling him stories about Max. Now, when Peanut meets him, he spends his time telling him stories about Grape, and others. I’m beginning to see a pattern here

XP max is so wierd
I think Fox could have used a bit more training, maybe then he could also ack the part of a badboy and not just look it. Though from the looks on how things are going I’m guessing this is how Fox becomes such a nice guy, and how the other dogs come to accept Grape. Also I have this feeling that fox is going to get kidnapped even more between this ark and the ark where he gets kidnapped by Joel and the fat man.
What I just noticed is Max’s ear isn’t torn/split here. So whatever happened to his ear happened after this.
I have a feeling that something might happen to max’s ear after this, because the thing that grape says in the last square, it seems like either she is saying it in a questionable kid like way, or a standing up to a bully way
