Speaking of Miles where is he at this moment in time?? Unless wolves like ice-cream then ill just assume he’s at the ice-cream shop… theres always ice-cream in zoo’s right?
Yes you did! After you requested the 100 jello shots and before you demanded that the pink elephants stop parading on your belly, you said that it would be awesome to have cybernetic arms and sunglasses and then begged us to make it happen.
Now isn’t this an interesting strip. The humour of the zoo wolves calling the house wolves wild amuses me.
As it is, I’d really like to know more about Jack and Deadeye, Jack especially. He was what first caught my eye on the page. Also, what’s Karishad doing in the wolf pen? Wait, it’s Karishad, we don’t want an answer to that question.
I think the kids are the one’s without the leashes. Because we have yet to see those rascally kids yet and everyone we’ve seen so far has a leash, that is except for Uncle Deadeye…
We regret to inform everyone that Valerio will no longer be capable of posting here for some time. It appears that he suffers from every bone in his body breaking all at once, and a cryptic note was left behind by his assailant, reading, “One does not ‘teach one’ to Chuck Norris.” Criminal investigations have been halted indefinitely.
Actualy (as ironic as this sounds) I think the two staring at each over might be more closely related to Beauty and the Beast, one being ‘wild’ and the other being in captivity.
And there are 15 in Miles’ family? Heh I guess it’ll be fun to figure out who is who in this arc, but since I’m REALLY bad in these things I’ll just enjoy the fun character designs.
On another subject, today we were at Old Navy, and they had these things called “wrap sweaters” … which if you wear them right look like a Mexican-style poncho (serape) with sleeves.
three-meals-a-day without-having-to-chase-it-first life does that to ya.
Too see what feral life does to you, look to “Five finger discount” Jack and Deadeye.
Guess that’s one of the reasons Daryl wanted to aply in the previous comic
“flipping the bird” is a euphemism for giving someone “the finger” (middle finger), AKA “one-finger salute” (among other euphemisms, none of which are appropriate for discussion here).
That said, no he’s not. Karishad has his index finger extended. Whether it’s in the “wait a minute” gesture or something else will probably be cleared up in Monday’s strip.
not to mention the fact that the animals in the HP! universe have only 4 fingers (including the thumb” and therefore do not technically have a middle finger.
Before the wolves were initiated into the town of Babylon Gardens, they lived in the woods. That’s where a place called “the wild” is located. In there you never know what may happen to you. Or instead of going on and on about the complex world of the Forest beyond the East Ridge, i can simply link you to this comment…
Hmm, so is Miles the alpha or just the smart one who wanted to live with people? The two other males from his pack here look tougher than him, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It’s a little more obvious now why Lucretia wanted to live in civilization and not have to worry about her cubs being hurt or eaten or catching rabies.
I still wonder how these animals wound up as zoo animals, it’s clear that they’re not trapped against their will but are they injured rescues or did they ask to live there? Those two pups (well, younger wolves at least) are adorable checking each other out. Also Karishad is up to no good again, but he’s just so cute!
Miles is the alpha, I believe. While these two do look tougher than him, they are also injured and therefore seen as less fit to lead the pack. the other options for Alpha are the two Daryls and cousin Rodney, who seem about equal in toughness to Miles, so other factors come into play.
The girls also have a nice habit of holding their hands together before them. I’m sure there’s a name for that kind of courtesy, but i can’t think of it at the top of my head.
That’s how you can tell them apart! The females are adorable and have those long eyelashes, while the males are……well, now that i think about it, you really can’t unless it’s stated that they are in fact a boy or girl. When i saw Cerberus for the first time, i thought she was a guy simply because she was so buff! And she didn’t have long eyelashes either… o.o
Making my previous clarifying list obsolete. That’s OK. I’ll get over it.
It would be nice if the tags were in the order of appearance in the panels (left to right) instead of alphabetic order. I suppose there’s a technical reason for it.
This strip is cool but it confuses me a little what with that one wolf missing the arm; if an appendage such as an arm or leg was to be removed wouldn’t there be a stub left behind and not just a large “X” shaped scar. Also, I think if your arm is cut or torn off to the piont were you wouldn’t have stub there’d be know way of stopping the bleeding and you would most likely die.
Course I’ll always be the 1st to say I could be wrong.
Also, how do you all know all their names? I may have only just recently discovered this comic, but I have read every strip posted & the only actual wolf’s name they mention, besides Miles & his wife, is Daryles.
I’ll try and answer this but even i’m not sure. “Four finger discount” Jack is pretty obvious, Uncle Deadeye should be the one with the stick since he’s got that thousand mile stare going on, Elaine i believe will be the small one next to him and is probably his daughter and i only think this because she and him together give off a Pocahontas vibe and Natalie just doesnt sit right, Natalie could be the one with piercings because she looks like a Natalie to me, and Poncho sounds like the name of a young naive kid so it’s got be the one sniffing the zoo wolf. Wolves are just the name of the other two wolves and Karishad is the Fox
If i were ANY one of the wolfs who were in the cage….i would watch out for that Wolf in the Far Left, He looks like the dude who has Fought in many battles blind. Plus the way it LOOKS like his wife is holding him back……better watch out. Am i correct Rick?
ahh dont worry bout that, all in all your still right catarax makes dogs blind, so i got to give ou that one its all about the irony in this sketch such as four finger disount jack, he has no arm and deadeye, he has catarax and poncho just has a poncho and the wolf on the far right is saying that ths zoo isnt for wild animals even though wilda animals are IN it, so yeap you jsut have to put science and iron y in to play in this one and you will see it…
Leave it to the ferrets to bank that tri-pawed wolf a new arm
…One that serves lemonade. Because a bionic arm that serves icy-cold beverages is that aweso–I MEAN USEFUL!
*excuse me sir, i seem to have misplaced my leash. Have you seen it around here?
*No but ill be sure to keep an eye ou– oh look a wolf, yes i saw it about three miles that way. *runs the other direction
Oh boy this could get ugly! o.o
Terf War!
I think it would end rather quickly, if you notice the wild wolves all have massive muscles compared to the zoo wolves >.>
now I need to know which one’s Elaine and which one’s Natalie.
Natalie is the smaller one
Thanks for clearing it up.
Natalie is adorable by the way. I love what you did with her coloring + her size.
Aaand what aboot everyone else? The only person I can identify is Karishad.
for what concerns this portion of the pack, I love Deadeye. He looks like the wise and toughest daddy!
Why, because he speaks softly and carries a big stick?
kee-rect!
Also, he so looks like Clint Eastwood
That’s because he’s wearing a poncho!
Wait, is deadeye blind? He looks like he has a seeing-without-seeing expression. Also he has a stick to help get around.
I think you’re right. He has part of an ear missing and a massive scar on his maw too. And… what the heck???
Is that one wolf MISSING AN ARM???
I like how Elaine has her ears pierced. Must have been an odd case for the person who had to do that for her.
nah, took only another wuffie and a good nip.
That, or they put to a good use a couple of battle bites
I want to know the story behind Jack and Deadeye. Where are the scars from and stuff? How did Jack lose his arm? To much story that I must know!
I was thinking “five finger discount” Jack was the fox…
that’s clearly Karishad.
Can’t be him, no one in this panel is at risk of bodily harm.
Shh, that comes later
I know, that fox is pure unstoppable chaos.
No the Fox is Karishad
and the hound would be..?
I dunno, which one is “the hound”?
The two on the right (besides Karishad) are just tagged as “wolves,” if that clears anything up.
Bino, but he’s not in this arc.
“The Fox and the Hound” reference
Copper, but that’s “Karishad”, not “Tod”.
I see that it got retconned earlier today to “four finger discount”
Well, you know, Miles did say that living in the wild sucked.
no, that was a quote. Lucretia said it first.
You’re right. Lucretia said that living in the wild sucked.
Speaking of Miles where is he at this moment in time?? Unless wolves like ice-cream then ill just assume he’s at the ice-cream shop… theres always ice-cream in zoo’s right?
Do hope he gets a cybernetic arm! Poor Guy
and Peanut wondered why Miles opted for civilization…
Bring in the augmentations.
I never asked for this……
Yes you did! After you requested the 100 jello shots and before you demanded that the pink elephants stop parading on your belly, you said that it would be awesome to have cybernetic arms and sunglasses and then begged us to make it happen.
Maybe he could meet Nin Wah’s supplier.
We can rebuild him…We have the technology to make him better than he was before…
NNOOOOOOOO!!!
Yeah, a bionic wolf does sound like a very bad idea. Look at all the benefits they got from making that hyper-smart shark in “Deep Blue Sea.”
oh my god..
Also, Poncho is acting very cute.
Ponch and the unnamed wolf both!
Also, we now know of the entire pack. (last comic’s 6 + this comic’s 5 + Miles and the cubs = the full 15.)
Wow, you’re right. I didn’t even notice.
Karishad is back!
Oh this is going to be fun. :3
no, it’s gonna get dangerous..!
That’s the fun part! :-p
i see epikness coming soon
AND panic
It’s Official! We Need More Karishad In This Comic!
*gets some paper out and a pen to sign your name*
WHO’S WITH ME!!!!
I love karishad!
this pack rocks to sweet heaven!
Uncle Deadeye kicks azz!
Poncho is so sweet!
And…WAIT! WHO is the gal with the camera? Iz not tagged!
sorry, got it. nevermind
Kari, get out of there! *shoos*
I’ll be back!
They’re not wild – they’ve all got leashes (most of them, anyway)
I think the kids are the one’s without the leashes. Because we have yet to see those rascally kids yet and everyone we’ve seen so far has a leash, that is except for Uncle Deadeye…
it is our first wolf without a leash and frankly i wouldn’t try puting one on him
I see some sniff sniff cuteness there. Wonder what’s going on
i saw that too!
Sniff sniff sniff!!
Some West-Side-Story possibilities there.
Or is that East-Ridge-Story?
Or it’s an East-Ridge to West-Side-Story.
PONCHO!
I heard zoos cost a arm, but I didn’t think they meant it literally.
well, it didn’t cost anyone a leg too..
As long as nobody messes with Uncle Deadeye. IDK about you all, but he looks like he could out stare down the Undertaker.
even better! He could teach one to Chuck Norris!
We regret to inform everyone that Valerio will no longer be capable of posting here for some time. It appears that he suffers from every bone in his body breaking all at once, and a cryptic note was left behind by his assailant, reading, “One does not ‘teach one’ to Chuck Norris.” Criminal investigations have been halted indefinitely.
;P
Les ouchies.
wow, looks awesome, and agreed on Poncho and the little wolf girl, they both look cute and I want to know the story behind Jack and Deadeye.
I have the sensation Karishad was addressing Natalie…
Poncho and that female wolf look so cute like that
Yes they do. :3
*squees*
I am a wuffie in love
I love the character designs and the back stories implied
Fierce Creatures reference?
D’awwwww! I SEE PUPPY LOVE!
……I just realized there are fifteen wolves in the pack……
I feel this will be a lot like Romeo and Juliet.
Actualy (as ironic as this sounds) I think the two staring at each over might be more closely related to Beauty and the Beast, one being ‘wild’ and the other being in captivity.
And there are 15 in Miles’ family? Heh I guess it’ll be fun to figure out who is who in this arc, but since I’m REALLY bad in these things I’ll just enjoy the fun character designs.
i love the style of this comic, its similar to to the stuff i used to draw =) also i love the arc about the wolves, its nice to see the whole pack ^_^
What’s with the fox?
Kardishad escapes his enclosure to mess with the other animals
… wait, why isn’t he tagged?
My bad. It’s “karishad”
You’ll see from the tag this is not the first time he’s up to something
(and there’s an alt text somewhere that implies more)
SOMEONE LOST AN ARM?!?!?…how?
It’s the woods! How can someone not lose an arm!
um… by doing what the other 14 wolves did?
Pfft… Conformity is boring.
And, okay, the end was sort of bad, but playing with that bear was really fun up until that last bit…
At least he got an awesome scar out of it
http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4083/5003469418_dff45f76c8.jpg
Argent Stonecutter that picture is awesome!!!
Why is everyone assuming the wolf leaning on the wall is Poncho?
*looks at the other names*
er… never mind
plus he’s wearing a poncho, so there’s that
I thought it didn’t count as a poncho if it had sleeves?
It’s certainly unusual, but I bet there are sleeved ponchos somewhere in South America.
I first thought Deadeye was Poncho, ‘cos of his serape.
It doesn’t have sleeves as such, that’s just sort of how it came out
On another subject, today we were at Old Navy, and they had these things called “wrap sweaters” … which if you wear them right look like a Mexican-style poncho (serape) with sleeves.
Been wondering if they’d visit the wolf pen. Of course they would, this is HousePets, awesome stuff always happens.
this comic is made of awesome, so yeah, i agree
I noticed the captive male wolf is rather filled out compared to the forest wolves
I guess there are some privileges to being “zoo tamed”. =D
three-meals-a-day without-having-to-chase-it-first life does that to ya.
Too see what feral life does to you, look to “Five finger discount” Jack and Deadeye.
Guess that’s one of the reasons Daryl wanted to aply in the previous comic
Yeh, he’s pretty buff in this strip.
Even moreso than usual!
Your avatar is smirkishly appropriate.
Hehe, just that makes his comment awesome. Even moreso than usual.
This will, of course, make no sense at all when I change my avatar (Fox smirking at King during Thanksgiving dinner)
You don’t need to change your avatar to change your avatar.
Bah, far too lazy to keep track of multiples! Weasels have too much energy for that kind of thing
Saved for posterity at http://globalcausalityviolation.blogspot.com/2011/12/yes-yes-another-gravatar-snapshot.html
You have way too much time on your paws, silly weaselthing!
I love the face that Karishad’s making, you can tell he’s going to do something hilarious.
That’s the face of a fox with a mischievous plan up his sleeves! If only he was wearing some sort of clothing…
karishad can do that without clothing!
Who knows what he’s got hidden in that bushy tail of his…
I like how wild = abs lol
Just how WILD must be Boris and Yeltsin, then?
What In the World!!!!
Homeboy to the left is missing an arm!!
That’s “Five Finger Discount” Jack.
Errr… four finger now…
Is it just me, or does it look like Karishad is flipping the bird?
Flipping the What!?
“flipping the bird” is a euphemism for giving someone “the finger” (middle finger), AKA “one-finger salute” (among other euphemisms, none of which are appropriate for discussion here).
That said, no he’s not. Karishad has his index finger extended. Whether it’s in the “wait a minute” gesture or something else will probably be cleared up in Monday’s strip.
I never heard of it like that before… o.o
And I agree, he’s definitely not doing that. And why would he when it’s a PG comic?
not to mention the fact that the animals in the HP! universe have only 4 fingers (including the thumb” and therefore do not technically have a middle finger.
But for four-digit hands/paws it really is the middle finger… if you figure the thumb is counted as “thumb”, not “finger”.
(No, it doesn’t make sense. Hush.
)
And of course I use the wrong italics coding, thinking this was a regular web forum…
Who is who???!!!
Left to right: Uncle Deadeye, Natalie, “Five Finger Discount” Jack, Elaine, Poncho, unnamed wolf girl, unnamed buff wolf, Karishad.
Thanks
They’re… but…which… who… he… said… banana…zuh?…
no “apple”
Wheatley: Say “Apple”
Chell: *Jumps*
Wheatley: Yep. You’re brain damaged.
C’mon! what might do wild animals exploring the zoo?
they could ask their peers behind the fence to perform…
OMG where is his other arm
Before the wolves were initiated into the town of Babylon Gardens, they lived in the woods. That’s where a place called “the wild” is located. In there you never know what may happen to you. Or instead of going on and on about the complex world of the Forest beyond the East Ridge, i can simply link you to this comment…

Awww!! The two wolves have each-other’s eye. It’s very cute.
Even more new characters! @_@
…you know, pack of fifteen…
you know ever comic this week has introduced more wolf character, and I love it. <3
agreed. i love the wolves =) i mean, just look at my username ;D
Dead eye’s story is what im gonna look forward to. :3
Hey, are those the same two wolves from before?
Also, just noticed that Elaine is taking pictures.
Hm?? Do posts with tags get rejected? It says you can use them, but my comment doesn’t show up… Anyway,
Are those the same two wolves from before? http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/10/22/in-touch-with-the-ground/
Also, silly Elaine taking pictures
Argh XD
I meant ‘a’ tags. Now the post is messed up o_-.
It says you can but it’s been blocked because I don’t know how to disable it
Oh, it’s showing up now…
Maybe it goes through a filter that takes a long time to process?
D: His arm!! :’(
Hmm, so is Miles the alpha or just the smart one who wanted to live with people? The two other males from his pack here look tougher than him, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything. It’s a little more obvious now why Lucretia wanted to live in civilization and not have to worry about her cubs being hurt or eaten or catching rabies.
I still wonder how these animals wound up as zoo animals, it’s clear that they’re not trapped against their will but are they injured rescues or did they ask to live there? Those two pups (well, younger wolves at least) are adorable checking each other out. Also Karishad is up to no good again, but he’s just so cute!
Given that the zoo animals even get vacations*… they might be rescues, or they might simply be volunteers like Miles and Lucretia.
* http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/11/05/and-were-hopping-were-hopping/
Miles is the alpha, I believe. While these two do look tougher than him, they are also injured and therefore seen as less fit to lead the pack. the other options for Alpha are the two Daryls and cousin Rodney, who seem about equal in toughness to Miles, so other factors come into play.
The alpha-beta system of pack hierarchy is an outdated model; I don’t use it as such
Good on you, Rick!
True, true. But somebody has to be in charge and make sure they don’t eat all the hippos!
Hippos are actually some of the most dangerous animals in the world. I don’t think they’re in any danger from wolves.
What a characterful wolves!
GOODNESS GRACIOUS! That wolf is missing an arm!!
You know it’s very rude to stare at a handicapped person. Dog. Wolf.
It’s a bit odd having the “wolves” tag.
bot really. the zoo wolves aren’t named.
*not
Argent Stonecutter gave a breakdown of who’s who in the following post: http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/12/09/from-the-inside-out/comment-page-1/#comment-91641
I like the look on Karishad face, it looks like he has a devious idea
Karishad is being sneaky. He needs a mustache to go along with that look.
I’m guessing the wolfs we see in the pen now are the same ones we seen way back in good old black and white? the dark furred one seems familiar to me.
I think his muzzle “flash” mark counts as a mustache.
Why is it that there’s no direct way to tell when a character is male or female, but the females are so incredibly adorable?
Great comic as always, I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of this arc!
all females have eyelashes
Cerberus is the exception to his rule
The girls also have a nice habit of holding their hands together before them. I’m sure there’s a name for that kind of courtesy, but i can’t think of it at the top of my head.
I find that really cute… I wanna hug them all!
They do seem to have eyelashes usually… maybe that’s why they’re so cute?
King is WAY adorable.
Peanut is adorable..
Zach is adorable..
…Is he missing an arm? O.o
I just realized Uncle Deadeye doesn’t have pupils, so is he called Deadeye because he’s blind?
Yes you are correct! And i believe that stick he’s carrying is his cane so he don’t bump into things.
Yeah now that I look at it more, it seems like Natalie is leading him.
Center of the panel would make anyone go aww.
HA! LAST!
A zoo would probably be even more intense for a blind wolf, because scents carry no indication of cages.
What wild animals? I don’t see any.
“Five finger discount” Jack is my favorite name. I’d like to think he had the nickname before he lost an arm and it was just a massive coincidence.
come to think of it, Hey, Rick, shouldn’t that be “FOUR Fingers Discount” Jack?
That is a seriously good point!
I was looking at this earlier and, yes, he should be, so he is
Making my previous clarifying list obsolete. That’s OK. I’ll get over it.
It would be nice if the tags were in the order of appearance in the panels (left to right) instead of alphabetic order. I suppose there’s a technical reason for it.
“Yeah, look who’s talking! You don’t even have a leash, yadda yadda!”
is 1 of thim missing an arme??!!
Yes, that would be “Five Finger Discount” Jack. = P
“Four Finger Discount” Jack now!!! XD
Hooray for updated names!!!
Karishad no karishadding, Karishad no karishadding, Karishad no karishadding!!!
That just makes him Karishad harder.
*Pulls joke already*
You’re too late!! Heh heh heh heh!!
*throws a poison spitting turtle at him*
Heh, look who’s talking buddy! (Referring to the dark grey wolf commenting on where they’re from)
Are heavy scars always drawn in a christian cross way
Also, is it just me or do all wolves look like Fox
These come from surgical stitches so yes
Wow, its an honour that you should take the time to reply sir.
Looks like Poncho is getting some backstory!
There’s several kinds of amputation, arms can be amputated all the way up to the shoulder.
Like I said, I’ll always be the 1st to say I could be wrong. thank you for pointing that out.
Also, how do you all know all their names? I may have only just recently discovered this comic, but I have read every strip posted & the only actual wolf’s name they mention, besides Miles & his wife, is Daryles.
read the little words below the comic. those are tags that list every character featured in the strip.
yes but who do we know who is who?
Almost right, except Rick said Natalie was the smaller one.
She might be his daughter, but we don’t know.
And Poncho is the one wearing a poncho.
And not named after the dog “Ponch” in Diane Duane’s “Wizards at War” that I mentioned several strips back.
Oh crap, the concept of a scar in place of his arm IS SO COOL.
/nerdgasm
Also, why is a fox in the same exhibit as the wolves?
Thinking up mischief that’s why
Karishad is the zoo’s very own troll. (the meme kind)
KARISHAD FTW!
XD that’s what I was thinking! Everyone’s freaking out about him missing an arm, but it’s actually pretty cool looking
Also, the fox is Karishad! He goes wherever there is mischief to be had! (look under ‘Tags’ and click his name to find the other strips he was in)
Am i going crazy (which I could be), or does he not have a arm???
DARN IT MAN you’re killing me! The cute scenes are writing fan fic in my head! MAKE IT STOP! DX
don’t worry, I’ll do that for you:-3
I may beat you to it XP my hand won’t let me stop writing. *glances down* ACK! NO! Stop!
If i were ANY one of the wolfs who were in the cage….i would watch out for that Wolf in the Far Left, He looks like the dude who has Fought in many battles blind. Plus the way it LOOKS like his wife is holding him back……better watch out. Am i correct Rick?
Actually, she appears to be holding onto him for comfort.
I think the deadeye thing is literal. the eyes kinda make him look like he’s blind or somethin
i like the irony protrayed in all of this…
What is that?
That Miles’ family are just as civilized as the zoo wolves, if not more so, yet still referred to as ‘wild.’
Love this comic. Always brightens my day. The blind wolf character in this strip is my fav!
uncle deadeye…has catarax
Ahh, my mistake. still strikes a very good image
ahh dont worry bout that, all in all your still right catarax makes dogs blind, so i got to give ou that one its all about the irony in this sketch such as four finger disount jack, he has no arm and deadeye, he has catarax and poncho just has a poncho and the wolf on the far right is saying that ths zoo isnt for wild animals even though wilda animals are IN it, so yeap you jsut have to put science and iron y in to play in this one and you will see it…
if they’r in a zoo, they aren’t wild anymore.
they also arent pets so what would you call them?
Performers? Maybe merchandise, because if you aren’t paying for your stay you aren’t the customer, you are the product being sold.
Well you craft it well into the story and i can say without a doubt the Housepets is one of the best comics online.
I’d say it is the best; least the best that I’ve been able to find.
That fox is planning something. Foxes are ALWAYS planning something.
“will it bring me entertainment? yes? then its a good idea”
awww look hes curious about the girl wolf how addorible
yea but they arent pets either so what would you call them?
I like this; Love the coy look on the young girl wolf.
Oh man, I just noticed one of the wolves only has one arm xDD
What happened there?
Leave it to the ferrets to bank that tri-pawed wolf a new arm
…One that serves lemonade. Because a bionic arm that serves icy-cold beverages is that aweso–I MEAN USEFUL!
i’m getting a very Romieo and Jueliet vibe… or in this case Poncho and (smaller of the two Zoo Wolves)
“Did you lost your arm to a heartless evil human hunter?”
“Not really, I learned the hard way that bear traps can work on animals besides bears…”
*excuse me sir, i seem to have misplaced my leash. Have you seen it around here?
*No but ill be sure to keep an eye ou– oh look a wolf, yes i saw it about three miles that way. *runs the other direction
uh-ohhh conflict…were will this go:)
the zoo wolf girl seems quite interested in the young “tame city” wolf.
I sense a love story a la Romeo and Juliet.
is it just me or does Karishad have a wolfish grin?
