@ Dissension: I would recommend that you place this in a highly visible spot “just above” the comments thread, and make it obvious so people can read it. Posting it in the comment thread each time seems to have the effect of having at least 3 people comment on the “THESE ARE THE RULES” block and not on the comic… there by violating your rules anyway. Just saying… seems it would make for a lot less work on you too.
Yeah that’s a good point. But then again, that would take up alot of space. Maybe hide it with a “Commenting rules” button. Like they do with spoilers and the such, there has to be a function on that in this WordPress thingy. I guess….
This. Many of us DO follow the rules, anyway. It would be useful to be able to view them easily while we’re commenting, nonetheless, just in case we’re about to say something that may or may not break the rules; in that case, we can check.
If we provide only a link to the rules, people who do not follow it and are subsequently banned for some major offense will complain that the rules were not clearly posted. Likewise, most people do not read any text posted with the comic, but do read the comments. Posting this way allows for maximum visibility and likelihood of compliance.
maybe if Rick found a way to post them within the comments section at the same time he posts the comic. new readers are more likely to listen t rules posted by the author than a moderator who they may not know is a moderator.
Idea: when you wrote the comment and all, once you press ”Post Comment”, a java pop-up should.. pop up ! x3 there will be the rules and 2 buttons, as in ”i accept it” and the ”X” that will close the pop-up with out posting the comment
Hey you stole my old picture lol. Tarot with the green swirls. thats okay though i dont use it anymore. This comic is taking a strange turn as compared to the way it flowed in the past, but i wont complain. I just hope we get back to it being about peanut and grape sometime. In the mean time ill enjoy king and petes supernatural adventures
All reasonable thoughts, though I think Bino might be the worse. I just have this feeling that whoever finds it will cause problems for King in one way or another, whether they mean to or not.
ANd thus the entire comic has brought itself back to the beginning. Once you know about the game your forever a part of it. Very clever very clever. That’s a good 3 year set up.
Great. Now The Game is on the loose.
And I thought you had it this time!
(Yes, I know you meant “lose”, but this is funnier.)
And you can’t lose the game if you don’t play it~
…
Somebody should tell King that.
well it wasn’t going to end like
“actually nothings wrong” *sabrina goes home* *King goes back to sleep* *end of arc*
It’s really interesting and I’m wondering what will happen next!!
i simply LOVE king! ever think of emberissing him by making him dress up or sing? i would feel bad for him, but i would be too busy laghting! also, u should think about evening the scores, you know, making a somone into a cat. only because i like cats, ok, if i’m being too anoying, please disregard this, and only this message.
D:
Great. Wonderful. Now I’ll be thinking about all the little, mischievous things that Bino can do with a watch that he found in a dumpster. Like pressing the Start/Stop button (seeing as it’s a stopwatch) repeatedly. *shudder*
Poor King.
Wow, this just seriously popped up. I like the fast updates Rick! I wonder what the cosmic horror level news and the worse news is.. King will have to find that watch soon or he’ll die, and then after that, he’ll have to carry that around to wind it up or else he’ll die? Well, either way, death is eminent! Mark my words… well, actually, carve it in stone :3
…Wait, so pets sleep fully clothed, in a sense? Cute shot of Sabrina under the newspaper in the rain. And excellent expression on King in panel 5.
Oh, dear…Something tells me this is gonna be a loooooong…uh, period of time for King. (I doubt he’s gonna be able to stay awake long enough right now, and it’s raining…)
I hope we learn what happened to Pete exactly. Judging by what Sabrina said I suspect that he was in fact arrested and thrown in jail or where ever heaven would put beings like Pete like I thought would happen. However I would like to know for sure just what happened to him.
Heh, that’s kind of awesome. Seems like King didn’t notice that the watch was related to him (the text of his name was pretty tiny after all. Either that or he didn’t take Fate’s hint.
I look forward to seeing where this goes.
. . . I kind of want to know what the cosmic-horror level news is.
I can’t understand what’s Kings problem, his whole worlds existence has been prooven wrong so many times that he could just go: “Meh, seen it.”. (Although I guess that wouldn’t fit his character at all so I’ll just keep my mouth shut. >.<")
Oh and what's with the whole drama Sabrina? You can just pick that watch up at any time… you DO know where it is right? :p
it’s like the guys on Supernatural. they’ve seen vampires, werewolves, ghosts, demons, and various other supernatural beings, but they’re still shocked to learn that dragons and phoenixes exist.
Sasha is picking up Tarot’s doom news delivery habits. I love it! Cosmic horror level is pretty severe. This crosses into eldritch abominations and everything that entails. This is going to be interesting.
it actually looks creepy with the tiny pupils being just out of view. he looks as though he has none. unless they actually got so small that they disappeared.
You know, I find it a bit off-putting that King is being used as a pawn, is turned into a dog, etc. and, even though he’s troubled by it, he’s generally OK with it all.
Oh, I think he’s still pretty upset about it – but the Great Kitsune and Spirit Dragon did imply they’d turn him back after the game readily enough, so it’s not a sole concern.
So flying over the wall is indeed an unauthorized way to get into heaven – thus the “broke into” part. Either the Spirit Dragon or Tarot got the news as well; possibly because of Pete’s rather public encounter.
Fate being a part of your soul is interesting; if it works internally, does it influence your actions, or does it somehow affect the world around you? Is it an inclination, an overall outcome, or govern a more or less limited set of specific events?
This does, however, make it seem likely that Joel / King simply couldn’t read the name on the watch in the dark.
You know what Fate (in this universe) may be your instinct/intuition about things since its a piece of your soul. You know like when people say that they had a “Gut Feeling about this.” and stuff like that.
There’s an asian interpretation of the soul as (i think) 7 parts, each one counting as a self-contained soul. I think that’s the kind of thing Rick’s going for here.
The time on the watch; Was that the correct time? Or how much time that ‘King’ has left?
Usually some ones time appears in the form of an hour glass, so I was wondering if the watch eluded to that, representing a modern concept of the same idea, or if it really just told the time as a brilliant form illusion to keep itself hidden.
In retrospect the fact that it has his name on it, and the fact that is a watch is reminiscent to timelords and how they would store a part of them-self in a watch to turn human and hopefully remain undetected to entities that were chasing them.
heh, nice. I agree to this, and he certainly is better as a dog then a human anyway based on how much he’s changed while still keeping parts of himself the same.
What about his falling out his childhood pets? You can’t really get over when your pets treat you like trash at that age. If this was anime, they would should how pointless Joel’s anger was for them for all those years by showing them a side he didn’t see/remember… but considering how he was part of PETA he may have realized that being a kid was very stressful for pets turned strays…
Good to see the comic’s back on track, this arc’s going to be good! and i don’t know if i’ve said this before but i’m still going to say it anyway, whatever your doing with the inc mr.Griffin
i like it a lot! everything just looks…cleaner somehow, keep it up!
Nah, her fur isn’t wet. She had her magic piece of newspaper to stop all the rain. In the cosmos they sell the magic newspapers in ordinary Newspaper Boxes. But on earth they cost a fortune! Imports are expensive!
I suspect that he keeps seeing things that any human would say obviously have to be done, and is annoyed that he’s the only one in the house who sees those things or takes care of them.
How does it prove that? Sure, he realizes that the watch wasn’t his, but nothing in the comic has said anything either way about his ability to read writing.
I’m glad we’re seeing more of Sabrina in recent arcs. Now she’s more than just Fido’s GF; she has become a much stronger contribution to the comic as a whole.
For this arc, I think the whole thick-line thing is really working out well. Do you think you’ll keep using this style, Rick, or are you more inclined to keep this as an experiment for this arc only?
Huh, wonder how Pete will be punished up there… unless he goes down under… I think the worse punishment yet simplest punishment is to make him watch those Merry Molodies in the new Looney Tunes SHow, the ones with Yosemite Sam as a rapping baby, Marvin in a techno dance music where he sings “La-la-la-la-li-li-loo”, and of course Fudd singing like Barry White about “Gwill-Cheese”, in manner fitting from Clock Work Orange.
I feel I have been put under immense torture just by being informed of the existence of such things. I’m a bit sorry for Pete but he did this to himself. I get this impression though, like he’s one of those guys that’s only a real jerk when trying to win a game and only slightly jerky as his regular self yet tolerable. I hope to see more of Pete, Spirit Dragon, and Great Kitsune soon as a result of Pete’s capture.
Maybe he like kind of jerk like Satan from Bedazzled, he does what he does because he is REALLY is such a loser and tries too hard to impress the Big Man of All.
Hm. How about PETA dognaps Fox again (for what would be at least the third time judging by the “Oh not AGAIN!” reaction back in Joel’s original arc – http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/05/06/something-is-missing/ ), and Joel / King gets to jump into the drivers seat while Fox is being stuffed into the back. This leads to car-chase chaos as Joel / King attempts to steer while hang from the steering wheel and stretching out both his neck (to peer over the dashboard) and his legs (to try to reach the pedals), with all the inevitably chaotic results and questions as to where he learned to do that?
Or maybe just for someone to talk to who isn’t so open and straightforward – or Bino.

Wow what happened? Were there so many bad comments? O_o”
No, it’s just so people know what the general policy on comment deletion is; they’ve complained enough about it to warrant this
AH! Understood sir!
@ Dissension: I would recommend that you place this in a highly visible spot “just above” the comments thread, and make it obvious so people can read it. I was just thinking that too, maybe near the actual commenting box.
like where it talks about the tags and stuff?
Yeah that’s a good point. But then again, that would take up alot of space. Maybe hide it with a “Commenting rules” button. Like they do with spoilers and the such, there has to be a function on that in this WordPress thingy. I guess….

Welp… yes good points to all of you. Maybe later on we’ll figure out a better way to post these, but yeah admins are admins for a reason right?
Idea: when you wrote the comment and all, once you press ”Post Comment”, a java pop-up should.. pop up ! x3 there will be the rules and 2 buttons, as in ”i accept it” and the ”X” that will close the pop-up with out posting the comment
Vlad, the comments section isn’t custom code specific to HP. That would require more control over the code than Rick and the mods have.
uh oh King is in some trouble
Alt Text: Not to put too fine a point on it, but it’s highly likely you’re doomed
He is doomed…oh King…
HEY! This just suddenly popped up!
“Oh, by the way, PETA’s after you.”
That would be terrible to hear.
but so awesome if the fat guy somehow escaped jail, too, and kidnapped him.
Strange… the fat guy’s name escapes me too…
He never actually got one. “Fatty” seems to the fan nickname everyone uses for him. That or “Joel’s Boss.”
The tag said his name was PETA. Maybe it’s PETA-Pete?
A nice twist would be if the fat guy turned out to be Pete in disguise.
Wow, that was a nice little surprise!
…
seriously, that just randomly popped up
not if you subscribe to Rick’s Twitter.
Hey! I’m subscribed to Rick’s twitter!
I just… checked it late
Cosmic-Horror-Level News is my specialty.
Sounds like fun. It’s not often you get to deliver such news though, which is a shame.
So King IS really in trouble this time ._.
Depends on who has the watch.
Depending on who “finds” the watch.Anyway,i hope king finds it,after all it is part of his soul.
RAMIEREZ! go get that watch!
Who’s Ramierez?
Let’s not get off-topic, please.
Peanut will mostly likely find it and see if it will work.
“Hey, the time is off, lets change the time”
I suppose it could be worse, Pete could have gotten it!
But now Bino might find it….
This thought makes me think that Pete having the watch might not have been such a bad thing by comparison to what might happen.
Who would be worse than Pete?
Rock? Thomas? Fatty?
All reasonable thoughts, though I think Bino might be the worse. I just have this feeling that whoever finds it will cause problems for King in one way or another, whether they mean to or not.
Even Sasha, or Daisy, or Space Laser.
It’s hard to tell what would be worse, Bino or Daisy.
You’re doomed! DOOMED!
Have a good night
You’re doomed. Night!
haha, I love how Sabrina casually states how King is doomed.
ANd thus the entire comic has brought itself back to the beginning. Once you know about the game your forever a part of it. Very clever very clever. That’s a good 3 year set up.
Darn it! Rayne you just made me loose the game!
And a ferret stole your socks.
Great. Now The Game is on the loose.
And I thought you had it this time!
(Yes, I know you meant “lose”, but this is funnier.)
And you can’t lose the game if you don’t play it~
…
Somebody should tell King that.
Actually, I’m surprised the All-Text had nothing to do with Sabrina’s stating that.
If the game is THE GAME…..then what is UnU?
I think sabrina meant U&U , not THE GAME
To quote c-3po, oh wait, he already did.
well it wasn’t going to end like
“actually nothings wrong” *sabrina goes home* *King goes back to sleep* *end of arc*
It’s really interesting and I’m wondering what will happen next!!
i simply LOVE king! ever think of emberissing him by making him dress up or sing? i would feel bad for him, but i would be too busy laghting! also, u should think about evening the scores, you know, making a somone into a cat. only because i like cats, ok, if i’m being too anoying, please disregard this, and only this message.
he’s already been dressed up: http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/05/24/king-in-a-series-of-costumes-at-the-sears-photo-center/
p.s. if rick ever make a sequal to “all the kings men” i can’t find it, could u please direct me or tell me there isn’t one please? thank u
There’s not one… yet.
[link]
aw man, thanks anyways. p.s.s. that was a fast reply!
then do u think u can direct me to any or all the other stories he has? i know i saw one about lions in egipt (horrible speller)
I can’t wait to see who gets hold of the watch.
Dito, my money is on Bino
D:
Great. Wonderful. Now I’ll be thinking about all the little, mischievous things that Bino can do with a watch that he found in a dumpster. Like pressing the Start/Stop button (seeing as it’s a stopwatch) repeatedly. *shudder*
Poor King.
That’s a good point, maybe it can freeze time for the person.
With it raining like that, I don’t think any of the pets would be out. (So, maybe the raccoons?)
For some reason when I think of cosmic horror, I imagine that Dr.Who would suddenly appear and start helping the guys out.
K-9 might be a bit more fitting
Or both! Heck, let’s get the torchwood crew too.
It was only while he caught up with what he couldn’t post due to the power outage.
Do you take the collars off your pets when they sleep?
actually, I do. but we use a choke collar and don’t want him to accidentally choke himself.
And, of course, second panel’s words are win.
I told you, King (in the last comic): There will be consequences!
JAJAJ I LOVE IT, just genious, and the Sabrina expressions are gold.
Okay King, this is where it gets complicated.
win.
NOW it gets complicated?! What was the rest of it?
slightly less complicated.
If this is a Doctor Who reference, then you are awesome. If not, you’re still awesome or making me think it.
It was.
Sabrina.
Thanks. Sasha looks nothing like Sabrina. *is sad*
OK, he didn’t go back and get the watch. What a maroon. What an ultra-maroon.
He will, They’ll give him THE reason…
BTW, panel 5… The archetype of BSOD eyes right there…
it actually looks creepy with the tiny pupils being just out of view. he looks as though he has none. unless they actually got so small that they disappeared.
Of course the glowing eyes at night thing is incompatible with BSOD-eyes, ‘cos it’s the pupil that glows.
Panel 6: That was a total game lose XD
So, King’s screwed?
All that’s missing was: “BTW, at midnight you’ll become a were-joel”
haha .. yea me too
Now there’s a thought…I’m busy trying to picture what a were-joel would look like though.
You know, I find it a bit off-putting that King is being used as a pawn, is turned into a dog, etc. and, even though he’s troubled by it, he’s generally OK with it all.
he was in jail before. why wouldn’t he be okay with being a dog?
I’m pretty sure Joel would’ve expected to be in jail than to be turned into dog.
Oh yes. Those notions go back quite a long time… In fact, here’s a post exploring that topic from some time back:
http://ruscumag.wordpress.com/2009/10/02/down-among-the-dead-men-part-iii-the-eightfold-soul/
Wait, you have a blog?
Well yes; it is linked on the avatar after all.
Aha, that’s what Pete should have done. Hire a monkey to get Joel’s fate for him!
Man where’s Dr.Who when you need him to fix such problems?
The Doctor usually shows up just at the last minute to save the day which apparently hasn’t happened yet. But yes Dr Who is awsome!
time lords are unnecessary while celestial beings like Spirit are around. they have better things to do.
So….. Spirit cosplaying The Doctor?
The doctor needs no help from the spirits! He has his girl sidekick for the season.
I didn’t say the doctor needed help, I said that the spirits don’t need help yet. the doctor only goes where he is needed.
I suppose, plus the problems that involve him usually involve the death of everyone. This may not be that bad, at least for everyone but King.
This really is not the “Doctor Who” discussion board. Please get back on topic.
I agree, though to be fair we were talking about the comic as well.
Kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing! He’s my favorite. Yay more King!
Question!
It said “PM”, so I think it was the correct time. Several people have said that it isn’t how much time he has left, but there’s nothing official
well in the first scene of the watch it said 6:02 and then alter said 6:03 so if it’s time left there may be a problem
Oh god, no Cthulhu level news! The cosmic horrors from beyond are coming! Everyone for themselves!
“OK what’s the cosmic horror level?” “Can’t tell you, You’re not cleared for CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN.”
And that’s just the beginning!
I don’t think we’re going to have to deal with AZOREAN BLUE HADES.
King just now feels like he is being pulled by strings?
“Don’t be obtuse”…
He didn’t say anything about when he started feeling that way, just that he hated the feeling.
Says you…
The comic does not indicate when King began to feel as though he were being pulled by strings, but he does say that he hates the feeling.
“Is it Cthulhu? It’s Cthulhu, isn’t it?”
never insult the wolfs !
p.s. Sabrina’s really cute in the third panel ;3
Wow… The cosmic horror level news!
So if he cant be obtuse can he be acute. Love this comic if some one told me every thing was real I would sit back and watch the world with popcorn
King is most certainly acute dog. I mean- wait, that’s not what you meant, is it?
The only problem is that his best friend doesn’t know that he is the human who kidnapped him.
That’s one angle you can take on it.
Good to see the comic’s back on track, this arc’s going to be good! and i don’t know if i’ve said this before but i’m still going to say it anyway, whatever your doing with the inc mr.Griffin
i like it a lot! everything just looks…cleaner somehow, keep it up!
Tarot reminds me of Dr. Strange. She even has a sidekick like Dr. Strange’s Wong in Sabrina
Aaaaaaannnnndddd, I now have a crush on Sabrina. xP
But she only looks that way when she’s wet!
Nah, her fur isn’t wet. She had her magic piece of newspaper to stop all the rain. In the cosmos they sell the magic newspapers in ordinary Newspaper Boxes. But on earth they cost a fortune! Imports are expensive!
I think It seems a little rushed, but OH THE COSMIC HORROR I shouldnt be complaining.
great job “:D
“The gryphon broke into heaven and tried to take a piece of your soul.”
Most epic line ever.
i thought the most epic line ever was
“more cowbell”
It’s all in the delivery
Oh, is that all? Can I go back to bed?
Last panel= awesome face
You should have kept the watch, King!!
I wonder what problem it is…
hehe, just can’t wait next comic!!
cosmic-horror-level news….
Like when we had the Twinkie shortage?
Yes. XD
The dramatic expressions of King make great avatars. As usual.
Also, Sabrina appearance instead of Tarot because of audience demand.
And, so if they fail to find the watch it will somehow end up in the other end……is where the title come from?
i think the title comes from the bad news she’s giving
we’ll just have to watch what happens
and i just realized i used this a pun in the last comic, it’s not supposed to be a pun here just to clarify
Ah I mean the “not all dogs”……
Shocked King is shocked.
Shhh king, dont wake the wolves !
…actually it doesnt matters, cormic-horror level news ? You have the full right to go crazy and panic
how did a newspaper keep her completely dry…or is it another No longer covered in dragon spit thing?
She cast a magic spell on it and ran really fast?
Nifty fibers there in Panel 3
Something dosen’t make any sense in the first panel.
Why is King in an ordinary bed? Last time, he’s in a basket.
Most likely the wolves bought him one later on because they wanted him to feel more human.
Knig, you hate being a dog and complain about doing human things?
Ah well, everyone hates being woken in the middle of the nigh
I suspect that he keeps seeing things that any human would say obviously have to be done, and is annoyed that he’s the only one in the house who sees those things or takes care of them.
Of course, as http://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/01/17/dream-by-the-fire/ showed us, they’ve never had to deal with such things before; so it’s not like they know how
Oh yes. But when has Cranky King / Joel been rational about things like that?
Who’s more fitting to do the human things around the house than the guy who is/was human.
And the bad news is: the watch was not water-proof
but technically it isn’t a watch, it just chose that physical form when entering the mortal world, as a metaphor perhaps
And being non-waterproof is a metaphor for the fragility of the future!
Great… now King has to go digging in the trash for the watch. Hopefully it wasn’t trash day.
With his luck…
Did Sabrina’s “hair” change?
I’m not sure but it looks like her head fur is a bit more rounded than usual.
Wet perhaps?
Well, I guess this proves King really couldn’t read them name on the watch.
How does it prove that? Sure, he realizes that the watch wasn’t his, but nothing in the comic has said anything either way about his ability to read writing.
Awww… I just lost the game.
I have been liking the style a lot; I think that I’ll probably be keeping it.
Though we can’t over look at the idea that Pete is the “Joel” of “higher order” beings…
King is so adorable… c’mon–King shirts anyone? I hope he doesn’t go back to being human! Fox needs him!
Um. How does Fox “need” King?
If your answer is creepy, don’t bother replying.
Oh man, I want to see your first scenario now. That sounds so funny to watch King try and drive.
That’s quite okay news I guess. I mean, something in the cosmos just completely screwing up isn’t ALL bad…
And I’m done typing that signature I typed in previous comments
“part of you soul is missing, have a nice day”
definitely not the worst news you could get
Heaven doesn’t really live up to the infinite amount of time and interpretation it has ….
