Res’s letter mentioned nothing about him being the author of Pridelands. So unless Grape mentioned something off-panel is my question.
In reply to the first question, there’s no evidence to suggest that Peanut and Res know each other personally; they never met at the book signing, and in the “Hope of the Pridelands” arc Grape is only telling Peanut about Res. We could speculate, however, that the two do keep up; as Peanut is related to Grape and also a writer and novelist (skills pending), and since he’s a dog who enjoys such an obviously cat-oriented novel series, it seems plausible that he and Res would stay in touch with one another.
As for the second one (right above this reply), I’m not entirely sure what you mean. Grape did mention Res off-panel in the “HotP” arc (as Peanut does say that he’s “sure Res doesn’t think bad” of her in the Christmas Cards strip), but since then we’ve had very little reference to Res beyond today.
If we are to speculate from this comic, however, I would surmise that Peanut and Res do stay in touch; otherwise Peanut would likely not have Res’ e-mail address.
tl;dr – Peanut heard of Res from Grape, and Grape did mention something off-panel.
Brief correction:
I meant to say that Peanut is a writer and COMIC ARTIST, not novelist. Stupid mistake xD
They were more rhetorical questions, but hey, speculation is cool I guess. To clarify my second question, though: Did Grape possibly tell Peanut that Res is the author of Pridelands off-panel? Obviously Peanut is able to contact Res, but did he send him Grape’s fanfic with the knowledge he was sending it to not just a friend, but the author of the series?
I would assume that Grape would have explained why she did what she did at the mall, and this explanation wouldn’t make much sense without the fact that Res is the author.

Also, is it just me, or has Grape become progressively more and more like a girl, in terms of appearance. At the beginning you couldn’t tell, and even if you’d just entered in a few arcs ago and read no dialogue it seems that a picture of her would only establish her as a girl through her fur colour (a weak connection at best). Mayhap Max and Peanut are having an influence on her more than we think?
