A ‘Spec Script’ is basically a script (usually a screenplay for a movie, not commercials) that the writer is hoping to ’sell’, rather than the studio going to their writers and saying ‘We need a script for X, and it needs to appeal to the 18-25 demo, and have talking squirrels’.
This scenario feels oddly familiar…
Also, I wonder how well Sasha writes?
As probably as well as she plays the piano.

Give me some credit Argent Stonecutter! lol I use modular/analog synthesizers. But I do have quite a collection of MIDI controlled VST synthesizers too.

SPEC SCRIPT – A spec script is a “speculative” screenplay, one that the Variety slanguage dictionary defines as being “shopped or sold on the open market, as opposed to one commissioned by a studio or production company.
I didn’t get it either at first. I noticed that the esteemed Rick Griffin has been making the jokes of late a little too esteemed. As I say in IRC chat, I don’t get Smart People talk. =P But once I did some college level research on Spec Scripts (wikipedia) I got the joke and found it both humorous and enlightening.
Point is for Hollywood to get some ORIGINAL ideas? That’s completly unheard of!

If it helps the confusion, I think you can safely eliminate the word “spec” in your mind and it will still make sense. It’s not quite as funny because it doesn’t really communicate as clearly, but the joke is still there.
