“All at once it occurred to me that in the privacy of the Canyon I could carry my thermostatic clothing system to its logical conclusion. And I promptly stripped to hat, socks, and boots.
Now, nakedness is a delightful condition. And it keeps you very pleasantly cool – especially, I suppose, if you happen to be a man. But as I walked on eastward that afternoon through my private, segregated, Tonto world (exercising due care at first for previously protected sectors of my anatomy) I found that I had gained more than coolness. I felt a quite unexpected sense of freedom from restraint. And after a while I found that I had moved on to a new kind of simplicity…” (Colin Fletcher, “The Man who Walked through Time”, 1963, pp. 129 – 130)
Uh… I guess I was going to say “Miles” and point to “why do none of these configurations include pants?” but after I posted it, I thought Daryl would work too. Unfortunately, my reference for “hats count as clothing” is a strip from “The Changing Workplace”, which you need to read the 5 previous ones or so to get.
Cruel? Yes.
Wweell Always look on the bright side of life…
…
I decided I’m not going to post that “Monty Python” reference.
Due to how utterly inappropriate it is.
I’m pretty sure some people know what I’m talking about.
I don’t mind so much, for two reasons.
1: I read other great comics such as Housepets!
2: The art is just so beautiful that it makes the wait worth it :3
Yeah, either completely “go-with-the-flow” or unbelievably paranoid.
“Hey King!”
“AH! PLEASE DON– Oh, Fox, it’s just you.”
“Well, yeah. Who were you expecting?”
“Well, the Cubs keep figuring out new ways to keep themselves entertained. Death-Axe is surprisingly good at ventriloquism… and creating small explosives…”
King: Oh, hi Fox. Don’t step on the red tiles. They’re “lava”.
Fox: Gotcha. Heh.
King: Not kidding. REALLY don’t step on them. Watch…
SFX: *BOOM*
Fox: …
King: I’m helping the cubs with their homework.
Fox: Hey, King!
King: Don’t move… the cubs are around and I figured they see by movement.
-in the other room-
Fox: did you know that King thinks you guys see by movement.
“Deathaxe”: Yeah. We don’t get it. Dad just told us to leave him alone.
King: (From the other room) *Achoo* OH GOD NO!
Well, it looks like it is indeed cubs – and that Joel/King may have developed a bit more patience and self-control since his last run-in with the police.
Which is a lesson of sorts, but really has nothing to do with animals.
Not too much to analyze here: we have “Cubs are naughty” and “Life with Pete was utterly miserable”. I could try and do something with the fact that the cubs aren’t wearing any tags – but they are cubs (and we’ve already seen that puppies may not), they’re in their own yard, and – even if they are supposed to be wearing them – we’ve already mentioned that they’re naughty.
Since we knew all of that already, there’s nothing much to analyze save to note that Joel/King may have learned more patience and self-control – or he may just not have a trauma about wolf cubs, while having problems with police.
No, it’s… a Griffin in the guise of a human in the guise of a helicopter pilot in the guise of an idiot who didn’t take flying lessons so now he’s going to crash into the earth, covering everybody present with dirt (thus ruining the lawn).
Also, the helicopter pilot will be nowhere to be found.
Of course he will be back hes to important of a charater to be gone for long I say it will be about 2 arcs maybe 3 arcs max before we get his return arc. The point is then who will he take for an Avatar? Because King is out of the question because he’ll never say yes to him now.
As I said in the forum I suspect it will be either Fox,Maxwell or Bino depending on what Pete wants to do.
Well, he was originally going to take Grape, so I assume he’s going to try and get another cat now. It doesn’t even have to be Maxwell; Rick could introduce another cat character at anytime (but why go through all that trouble if he already has enough characters?).
Well I suspect Maxwell because he would be the closest to both Grape and Dragon so he would be able to manipulate Grape easily and keep an eye on Dragon.
It however could be Fox if he wants to keep an eye on King and try to tick him off/make his life miserable though manipulation of Fox but that really wouldn’t get him anything in the game really.
Now he could try for Bino because he does have some influence in the neighborhood and Pete is a power gamer plus Bino’s personality would suit Pete quite well. But I still say it would be Maxwell because Pete would be able to do more directly to Dragon and be close to his original target of Grape.
From that, I’d say the most likely targets for Pete would be Maxwell, and/or Bino. Bets, anyone? (There’s an option for “neither,” so you’ll have a 1/3 chance of winning).
well when you go from living off the land to living in an urban society, you’re going to put on a few. Even working security. It’s not like he has a home gym he uses everyday. Even if he had a home gym, his kids and work would keep him away from it.
Hey, is it just me, or does Fox look, I dunno, skinnier? Almost scrawny, in fact. It makes him look more like a teenager than an adult, which I actually think is more fitting: he’s kind of like an older brother to King, but he’s not the “Father Figure” kind of person that a much older pet would end up being.
To kind of clarify: I see King as the “12 year old” little brother and Fox as more of a “17 year old” brother (now) rather than a “23 year old” mentor (before).
I always thought that King was the older brother for some reason, probably because my older brother is shorter than me… And your right, Fox looks a lot thinner than usual, he looks more like a child to me though. I also noticed Miles looks like he’s getting a small gut, it makes him look more fatherly for some reason, and a little older.
Yeah ye’re right, didn’ notice it on Fox by my own, but still. Personally I never saw Fox as a “father figure”, he was always a “fight over a squeaky bone kind’o figure”. X3
Yeah, he seemed kind of just friendly at first, the he took him under his wing kind of like a brother, then he started to be more of a mentor (in my mind) helping him get along with the other pets, and now he’s gone back to brother.
Why not to bury the pray in the yard? Not cuz it’s King but the grass is expensive… I think NOW I realy understand why were the other pets askin for sanctuary after being here. But it was obvious. XD
The Dalmatians who brought me up (just ask them!) would dig dramatically deep dens for themselves. At least six feet long. Nice and cool in the Florida summer heat.
Seeing as it’s a bunch of wolf cubs against a tiny corgi only slightly taller than them (and that’s probably more ear than anything else), I’m not surprised. Especially considering Peanut’s first impression…
pete the character in the comic. Avatar not meaning the picture you see when you post, but the character one of the celestial beings must “attach” themselves to in order to roam earth.
Actually, his name is “Keene” so it would be “Keene’s words”, where the words in question “belong” to Keene, the “appostrophe s” showing possession by a singular entity.
The “s appostrophe” would show possession by a group of multiple “Keenes”
it’s actually countered fairly easily by several different moves. Thus why it’s not commonly used in top level over the board play. Looking at it I can think of several ways I would use to gain an advantage.
ai: artiticial intelligence. The wierd thing is that sonic uses it to refer to his/her self. I don’t know about you, but insulting my own itnelligence doesn’t seem like that good of an idea
Actually, my Windows XP occasionally gets a blue screen too, albeit with text ^^;; It happens when I have my external sound card driver installed, which is weird, as it never happened in Windows 7…
Basically, yeah, what these guys said. Just take ‘em together.
Blue Screen of Death, basically the sudden shock = the character almost frozen still from it. Peanut is prone to those but Fox (Here and when King shaved) and King (Tarot says he was human) had them during this arc.
Well, my comment is awaiting moderation because I named a webcomic with the “D-word” in the title, but basically what I wanted to say was that maybe they get called after a particular trait, which becomes their surname after they pick their new first name.
This comes from a webcomic called “Slightly D***ed” where it is the naming convention of a race called the “Jakkai”.
Yeah. Now if only Gravatar could tell the difference between Internet Browsers as well as IP Addresses. Because then she could use Google Chrome and I could use FireFox without having to worry about having to change the Name and Email fields all the time.
It’s the lack of well-defined abs that’s throwing everybody off. If miles would do some crunches or something instead of just the benchpress, I’m sure everybody would recognize his obvious status as competing with Captain Falcon for buffest guy in the comic.
I think it’s because of the angle he’s at. His side needs to be a bit more concave. That, or Rick’s trying to show us that city life is making Miles a bit soft.
That fact (that King is Joel) will come out eventually and you know it. Its just too good of a story line not to do. Fox will most likely not believe it at first (mostly because the idea of a human being turned into a dog would be ridiculous to him) but if he does I really wonder if he’ll ever trust King again or even want to be friends with him.
I could see that whole thing being a very emotional part of the comic and most likely a very huge tearjerker. (but we know it would all work out in the end.)
Oh, I expect so – although there are lots of good plotlines available.
Still, while there’s very little actual information to work with, I get the impression that the long-term experience with “King as a decent, if somewhat cranky, fellow” will probably dominate after Fox gets over the shock and has time to think back a bit. After all, he can probably recall that his kidnappers included “the obsessive crazy one” and “the confused one that the crazy one was towing along” – and it will be easy enough to find out that Joel / King was the confused one.
Dogs will forgive their friends for a lot of things, and are usually pretty loyal too – and Fox is forgiving and loyal enough to put up with Bino for years. I think that it might be a bigger problem with some of the other pets than with Fox.
Besides, “Fox and King against the world” might also be a fun plotline.
“Let it fester and boil inside of you! Take those feelings and lock them away. Let them fuel your actions. Let hate be your ally, and you will be capable of wonderful, horrid things. Heed my words: do not let it go.”
O wow the last part of the quote reminded me where it came from. Note to self and all who’ll listen: NEVER post a comment using a DSi. Too much SLOW evil XD. *now travels back to his arena to bend more minds…*
I think they’re all suffering from Grape Ambiguities. We won’t know their genders until maybe years from now– assuming that Rick sees fit to age his characters.
Well, we do have one addressing the other two here – http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/10/21/puppy-power/ – as “boys”, and I have the vague impression that the two being addressed are currently known as “Death Axe ” and “Space Laser”.
That could be taken as an indication that the third is a girl and that she may think that video-game names are silly. More boys than girls, but at least one girl, is also fairly classic as funny-kid-groups go.
Unfortunately, that’s pushing a few tiny slivers of fact out past deduction, through extrapolation, and into pure speculation.
It seems from that strip that [Brown Eyed Cub] is something of the ring-leader of the trio. That wouldn’t prevent [Brown Eyed Cub] from being a girl, though. i wonder where [Brown Eyed Cub] is here and if [Brown Eyed Cub] had anything to do with this…
Ah, I misremembered; checking the naming strip shows Deathaxe with yellow eyes and Space-Laser with brown eyes. That leaves at least one unidentified cub with blue eyes – although there might be more than three cubs, and one or more might have similarly colored eyes.
Not enough facts there to deduce much or anything, although – if there are indeed only three cubs – that would scratch the “may think that video-game names are silly” part.
I remember coming across a newspaper cartoon once… from Dan Piraro or one of those other weird artists, that had someone wondering “What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it’s all about?”
why does king always get the bad famillies?
is that goimg to be a curse for the rest of his life as a corgi?
poor him knows only misery from the beginning
I think I´m gonna have to agree with him in panel 3 of this commic
Well, Joel/Kings apparently-obnoxious parents, prison, peta, prison, Pete, and literal wolves do all seem like a bit of a downer as far as homes go.
Still, now that the cubs have demonstrated that they can grab and manhandle King – and that they are only going to get even bigger while King apparently will not – things may settle down with the cubs fairly shortly.
I’m not so sure this is a bad family, considering that he seems to be about to shed tears of joy when Miles welcomes him and the alt-text about how even being buried alive by wolf cubs as ‘prey’ is *still* better than living with Pete.
Of course, the fact that being buried alive by rambunctious wolf cubs is somehow better than life under Pete makes me think his life must have been a living Tartarus before this. If it’s better even than his human childhood then King got my vote for a medal for not turning into some kind of abusive monster.
His human parents may have been fairly bad too; as noted in the flashback, they were”harsh” to the family pets. That’s not a good sign in reality. In the housepets universe, where the distinction between “my animal” and “my child” is a lot smaller, it’s likely to be a very bad sign indeed – and the fact that young Joel was hiding in a corner with his cat in this strip – http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/05/27/im-never-going-to-understand-humans/ – makes it look even worse. What I tried to deduce about Joel’s history over on the Dossier thread wasn’t very happy.
The wolves do definitely seem like the best of the bunch – even if being grabbed and buried by the kids as a welcome is a bit of a (literal) downer.
Judging by his behavior towards Sasha in the christmas arc, I’d give him that medal. Most people aren’t easily diverted to thinking of others after a bomb goes off in their face.
Miles probably has his own money (which he gets from his job as security guard) and pays for his sod from that. And consider that Mr. Stewart watches over their expenses; I don’t think he’ll authorize too big of a salary for Keene’s little experiment
i wonder if anyonez notized dis but Miles is fairly buff and his cubs are fairly buff as well but then you turn straight to Fox an hez so slim, as in he dont have any muscles
O’ course I remember ‘em! I constantly have the Pinky and the Brain theme song going through my head, first from re-watching the “Macadena” song on YouTube, then because of a (slightly hidden) reference in one of the Yu Gi Oh Abridged series episodes.
Well, I already had the main theme song in my head all the time, but now I have the Pinky and the Brain theme song, the Macadamia song, the It’s a Quake song, and the I’m Mad song. Geez.
…and in THIS exhibit, we have a number of commenters who should probably be chatting this out in the forum’s “Chat Thread,” where tons of silly banter and discussion goes with little worry of random comment deletion…
Rick said this in his post the other day: If you’re going to comment on the comic, then you can do it here. If you want to chat, talk, or hang out, PLEASE do it on the forums. When you get 300 comments on a comic, that’s…a lot to scroll through. For everyone to scroll through!
I’m too lazy to register for yet another forum. I’ve lost count of how many forums I’ve posted in once or twice, then forgot about. Eventually I will convince myself to sign up; but for now, I’ll just have to make sure what I say has some relation to the comic.
The personality of Miles’s cubs, and their lack of names, remind me of the Bill Cosby joke: “And because of my father, between the ages 7 through 15, I thought my name was ‘Jesus Christ.’ ” XD
That’s not funny. Probably because I never heard Bill Cosby say that. Or maybe because that teeters on the edge of blasphemy (it’s sad that some people do name their kids that).
Jesús (pronounced Heh-zeus) is actually a very common name in Latin America. It’s seen as nonchallantly as when someone names a girl Mary (after Virgin Mary), or a boy Peter (after Saint Peter), etc
Of course, although the expeltive “Jesus Christ!” does exist in Latin America, nobody has as a second name “Christ”
One of our neighbours actually had a realtor by the name of Jesus (pronounced like you said). He was either Korean or Chinese, I couldn’t tell from his picture alone.
Funny, my 11 year old sister, who some people would think would love that kind of thing, came back saying it was cheesy. Throughout the whole movie, she and her friends were rating the (guy) characters on a “hotness” scale. Of course, they were being sarcastic (at least she was, anyway).
And she read the books, too.
Anyways, I just got back from “The Last Airbender”. I personally don’t understand why some people would give that such a “bad rap”. I mean, sure, not everybody’s seen the anime series, but that’s their own fault.
He played it fairly well, actually. It’s fitting that each “nation” (Fire, Earth, Water, and Air) was made up of one dominant nationality (Earth, for example, is mostly Asian, Fire, or at least the Fire nation leaders, are East Indian, and the Water tribe is mostly Caucasians).
I don’t think Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan (M. Night Shyamalan) is racist. Though I wish The Sixth Sense didn’t seem so much like a fluke in retrospect. I loved that movie.
Well, in the anime, the Fire Nation was basically Imoerial Japanese and the Water Tribes were like the Inuits, so I would have expected that decision to be flipped (from what it was).
i wondeeeeerrrrrrr if King is going to stay there for awhile an hez hang’in out with the cubs from time to time then what exactly will King bury in the yard considering if ya hangs out with the cubz ya might become like themz. ^_^
People usually judge moves against what they expected of them, rather than the movie itself. Disney’s Around the World in 80 days isn’t, in itself, such a bad movie, but people panned it because they expected more because they kept thinking of the 1956 version. Harry Potter 1 was crap (you couldn’t know what was going on without reading the book), but people praised it because they got everything they expected to get from the book.
Well, we’ve got a forum. Theoretically that should be enough. Or do you mean replacing the comments section with a chat? If so, don’t listen to her! Half the fun of going through the archives is seeing what people commented way back when!
Yeah, pretty much. I would just LOVE to see an entire arc about King’s confession, though.
Most likely telling him what happened and how he didn’t really like doing it at first. Maybe Fox get’ angry at him for a bit, while King starts to say something like, “I wouldn’t blame you if you’re mad and don’t want to be my friend anymore… I just couldn’t hide the truth from you; the only friend I really have here.”
It’s a tag, on either a thong or a chain. Presumably is shows his name, that he belongs to the Milton Trust, and – most likely – some other information. Personally, I’d hope that it includes his blood type (I’m not sure what types canines have, but I believe they do have them) and emergency contact information. He is working as a security guard after all.
Yes dogs do have blood types. They have 8 major ones and apparently 13 total but only 8 are common enough to be used and classified or something like that. They are DEA 1.1,1.2 and then 2 through 8.
funny fact about this strip: Miles scolded his kids for burying their PREY in the lawn, not their FRIEND.
Ouch. King better stay at bed when someone is out for a midnight snack…
I’ve been looking through some of the other fox strips, and he doesn’t seem on model here. He ears stick up more, his muzzle is pointier, his mouth opens lower on his muzzle. Compare this one: http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/05/10/give-a-dog-a-bone/
I thought that parhaps Rick was just emphasizing the physical differences between Fox and Miles there. Being a terrible artist myself, I usually just wind up noting that “it’s way better than I could manage” anyway. .
Oh, heck yes, I used to sketch a bit (I actually got invited to a mini-con as a guest, which amused me no end because I knew dang well I wasn’t that good – I declined politely) so I know just how hard it is to stay on model.
Oh, yes, I agree with that sentiment. I used to do a bit of sketching, just enough to realize how bad I was and how far I had to go, and I’m not worthy to lick his brushes. But still, it does seem that Fox is unusually off-model here.
True enough. He does seem a bit skinny and angular suddenly, at least to me – but he might just have brushed down his fur a bit or be at an odd angle or something I suppose.
Do you think the ferrets get confused when someone asks to speak to “Mister Milton”? Y’know, cause they all have the same name and…and…..oh, forget it.
I wonder what they caught and buried.
King, of course.
I believe it’s King.
It was meant to be sarcasm, apologies that I didn’t include the “/sarcasm.”
*Snerk*
Sarcasm doesn’t work on the webz.
I completely agree.
I disagree…placing the mark of “(!)” at the end of a sentence, to those who know, usually denotes sarcasm.
After all, I use it all the time(!)
Okay, maybe I don’t, but it’s a genuine grammatical term nonetheless, though little known. ^_^’
Or you can use a sarcastic font.
Er.. I think that was sarcastic also
Rats, the sarcastic font page is 404. But we can borrow the sarcasm mark “¡” (Temherte Slaqî) from Ethiopian.
Isn’t that the “opening exclamation point” from spanish?
e.g.
¡Caramba!
Another way to say it sarcastically would be: “Gee, I wonder what they caught and buried…”
Ethiopian uses it at the end of the sentence to indicate sarcasm.
It takes a skilled sarcasm detector.
Your avatar is perfect.
Indeed. I was thinking that, but I didn’t wanna double-post. Not that it would’ve mattered, but it’s the principle of the thing…
When Amaterasu13 said “It was meant to be sarcasm, apologies that I didn’t include the “/sarcasm.””, his avv was matching perfectly
poor king O_O . way to get to know the cubs!
Peanut’s introduction to the cubs was less threatening then King’s.
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/10/21/puppy-power/
… I think.
lol ^_^
… Interesting…?
King’s gonna have some troub…. fun.
I’m sayin’…he needs to learn chess.
hahaha, great.
DANG Miles got buff! And the shovel, that might be a good idea too…
he’s gone from looking like the football star to looking like the football dad in my opinion x3
I agree.
/nod
ai second that motion -_-
I also second this notion. Still, I wish I was that buff.
King is going to be very dirty when they’re done.
He’s gonna need the hose again!
Fox’s expression is absolutely priceless O.O
lol
A great and confusing arc comes to a great and wide open ending
Maybe we’ll see Grape and Peanut again! Joy!
More Ferrets!
Someone should make the last panel into an avv. Both characters.
I had Keene in the last panel ready to roll, but it just didn’t feel right for me so I made another one with “innocent keene” instead of “sly keene”.
Ninja’d!
Hi! I’m Daisy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6QTnRKF6QPM
0.0
Hi Daisy! I’m Daisy!
lol King got buried
Wait till he sees whats for dinner!
King: I wonder whats for dinner.
lol
King!
It’s what’s for dinner!!
Better than Beef.
Wait… did anyone get the reference King dinner?
come on! the king from youtubepoop? nobody got that reference.
No, nobody got the reference.
Finally the end of the arc! at least It didnt end on the crazy note!
Not the crazy note, certainly, but it was a crazy note. Come to think of it, I don’t see why I was expecting anything else.
Crazy note? This arc has been a crazy orchestra!
That new icon totally looks like you. o.o
You think I should stick with it then?
Too late!
Or is it?
hehe, burying King and all Miles is worried about is the lawn
hey, appearances are important for the neighbourhood!
When your a wolf living amongst humans!!
Sounds a lot like my reaction, actually…
i don’t know how long King will manage to survive….
Also if that is STILL better than his last home then Pete mus have been really really bad x3
Well, when you start announcing that you’ve figured out that you’re dead and in purgatory…
At least King will finally get to enjoy being in a cuddle pile!
Well, sure, if he likes to cuddle with the lawn…
… and it’s STILL better than his old home. ^^
Shovel me this, who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? :V
Yes he is.
BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf, BadWolf,
<geek joke>That’s a badwolf cluster!</geek joke>
the wolf cubs are so cute … lol
but dunno why, they seem naked without anything around their necks .. lol ……
Im sure it wont be long before they wear collars…
Or heaven forbid… clothing…
oh heeeeeeck no! They’ll never do that!
They will if Daryl has anything to do with it
Hats don’t count as clothing.
It’s hard to counter Colin Fletcher.
At least the cubs are naked with dignity.
And not with a can of orange soda.
King is such a great influence. X1
I guess King does fit in much better…
in a buried hole that is.
XD
How very cruel…
Such cruel world we live in…^^
Cruel? Yes.
Wweell Always look on the bright side of life…
…
I decided I’m not going to post that “Monty Python” reference.
Due to how utterly inappropriate it is.
I’m pretty sure some people know what I’m talking about.
I’m a bit disappointed the cubs aren’t tagged as “Death-Axe” and “Space-Laser”
I’m also amused that Miles refers to King as “prey”
Be grateful; if that were the case, then the dear Creator Rick would find it fit to rename himself Excalibur!
… Or is that a good thing? Hmm…
GO EXCALIBUR!!!!!!!!! XD
“You also see why we try to put this off for as long as possible.”
Go TwoKinds, more like.^^
YAAAAAAAYYYYYY TWOKINDS!!!!!!!!!!! XD
WOOOOOT TWOKINDS ME LIKES IT!!!!! Its really cool! ^-^
Secon-
Oh, nvm.
…
THIRD-ED!
I like 2kinds
if only it was updated more often…
I don’t mind so much, for two reasons.
1: I read other great comics such as Housepets!
2: The art is just so beautiful that it makes the wait worth it :3
It’s probably another pair of cubs. There are at least five if I remember correctly
Ah. That brings back memories. Yeah, King will fit in just fine.
Lets wait and see how King will turn out within the next coming months!! He will be a changed pooch!!
Or a ringleader.
King: Oh, hi Fox. Don’t step on the red tiles. They’re “lava”.
Fox: Gotcha. Heh.
King: Not kidding. REALLY don’t step on them. Watch…
SFX: *BOOM*
Fox: …
King: I’m helping the cubs with their homework.
THAT. WOULD. BE. EPIC.
I WAAAAAAAAAANNNTTTT
IT IN MY LIVING ROOOOOOM!
I WANT THE CUBS!!!
I’m gonna go with paranoid.
I was wondering when you’d show up to analyze.
ROFL!!!! XD
This is the end of the arc? NUUUU THIS ARC MUST GO ON FOREEEEEEVEEEEEERRRR
No! this arc was already long enough. The only thing it really didn’t wrap up was where exactly is Pete I would assume he is back in his Temple.
He’ll be back…
Look! Up on the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It’s a… griffin in a helicopter?
I’m still going for a Beowulf Cluster of Mr Bigglesworths.

Miles put on a few pounds o.=.O;
well when you go from living off the land to living in an urban society, you’re going to put on a few. Even working security. It’s not like he has a home gym he uses everyday. Even if he had a home gym, his kids and work would keep him away from it.
Especially HIS kids…
Hey, is it just me, or does Fox look, I dunno, skinnier? Almost scrawny, in fact. It makes him look more like a teenager than an adult, which I actually think is more fitting: he’s kind of like an older brother to King, but he’s not the “Father Figure” kind of person that a much older pet would end up being.
To kind of clarify: I see King as the “12 year old” little brother and Fox as more of a “17 year old” brother (now) rather than a “23 year old” mentor (before).
Oh that… yeah that may be.
Fox and King are bros!
I was thinking his muzzle looked pointier. It seems like it was more square in previous pics.
Time, proportion. It’s all relative
Why not to bury the pray in the yard? Not cuz it’s King but the grass is expensive… I think NOW I realy understand why were the other pets askin for sanctuary after being here. But it was obvious. XD
ai dun c ah reason fer sanctuary bein buried iz fun ^_^
Never said it’s not… but being a pray is another thing ya know. >.<"
weeeeellll fer meh that depends wuts de pre
What if it’s you…?
I’d let them bury me f they promised to dig me back up.
If I was a house pet I bet I could take them on… at least for ten minutes…
@furreh: As I said “being a pray” so it’s YOU! X3
@Power: Ya think you’ll have their attention so long after they bury ya? XD
@Latour: More like 10 seconds, but depends on what kind of a pet ya would be.
1 time me & mah friend got bored so we buried im to is stomack ……. cus ai gottired
The Dalmatians who brought me up (just ask them!) would dig dramatically deep dens for themselves. At least six feet long. Nice and cool in the Florida summer heat.
“Now kids, let me show you how to properly bury your prey in the lawn without damaging the turf!”
1st: u peel up the suface
2nd: You drop the prey into one of multiple pre-dug holes.
2nd: You remove the dirt underneath
3rd: place the prey in the hole you have just dug.
he he sucker king got over powered by cubs king needs to work out
Or he just got taken by surprise. Besides, use of chloroform is part of every young wolf’s education, isn’t it?
use uv wut -_-
Chloroform. You know, that stuff that people put on rags to knock out the kidnap-ee?
ooooohhhh yah that wut me and mah friends use fer tag ^_^
I forgot what that word meant for a second
Didn’t you people ever read Tintin? That’s probably the one word I learned from that, which I never forgot
Seeing as it’s a bunch of wolf cubs against a tiny corgi only slightly taller than them (and that’s probably more ear than anything else), I’m not surprised. Especially considering Peanut’s first impression…
Keene seems a little too pleased in that last panel.
…is Pete going to take one of the ferrets as his avatar?
And Fox’s face is just priceless.
durn u bear meh 2 it
I only wish I could call dibs on a face, but unfortunately, I won’t have proper computer access until Saturday at rhe earliest, so have at it.
Mwahaha, done.
S’okay. I suppose I can just get one of the cubs.
Though, now that I think about it, it would be a shame to rid myself of my name-avatar semi-contradiction…
Too late, I already got him!
pete the character in the comic. Avatar not meaning the picture you see when you post, but the character one of the celestial beings must “attach” themselves to in order to roam earth.
If a person guilty of a felony is a felon, I am an iron.
I was responding to the first part of the comment, about Keene.
I think this was discusse before. The main problem is that “the only valid parties are dogs and cats”
I’m guessing that Keene’s words make a lot more sense now:
“After running away screaming from This house”
(also i’m not sure if it’s Keenes words or Keene’s words)
it wood be “Keenes’ words” ^^
Actually, his name is “Keene” so it would be “Keene’s words”, where the words in question “belong” to Keene, the “appostrophe s” showing possession by a singular entity.
The “s appostrophe” would show possession by a group of multiple “Keenes”
oh de way ai read it ai thought it said keenes
King must have used the Latvian Gambit.
He should have known better. It leaves your diagonal completely open, if I remember correctly.
It’s also countered trivially by the Rasputin compromise.
it’s actually countered fairly easily by several different moves. Thus why it’s not commonly used in top level over the board play. Looking at it I can think of several ways I would use to gain an advantage.
I still like the Rasputin Compromise, because the Bishop ends up in the bedroom with the Queen.
Gah! Uh…. I know what you mean but was that mental image really necessary?
I have no idea what you’re talking about!
Tudor court rules, remember?
Love the AltText. Looks like things are looking up for “Kingy.”
And Fox was BSODed for the second time in this arc.
wut de ALT txt say ai is uzin a DSi
“It’s STILL better than my old home!”
And how does it look on the small/dual screens?
I know that it would probably look fine on my PSP1000, but I’d have to zoom in a little…
it just looks crappy on Wii. ;’)
This question has always plagued me: Why “ai” instead of “I”?
ai: artiticial intelligence. The wierd thing is that sonic uses it to refer to his/her self. I don’t know about you, but insulting my own itnelligence doesn’t seem like that good of an idea
Text/Chat/Internetz-speak for the win!
I’m using a Wii
“BSODed”? I am unfamiliar with your terminology, fellow browser of the internets.
Blue screen of Death. Its what happened when old Windows versions (Win 95,98 ect.) crashed. Basically Fox just crashed in shock like a computer.
Actually, my Windows XP occasionally gets a blue screen too, albeit with text ^^;; It happens when I have my external sound card driver installed, which is weird, as it never happened in Windows 7…
Basically, yeah, what these guys said. Just take ‘em together.
I’m a PC, and Windows 7 was not my idea.
I’m a PC, and windows 7 wasn’t my idea but I sure as hell do appreciate mooching yours…
I’m a ferret, and I just stole your socks!
Found the way in yet, Argent? Let us know when you found the way out.
Hey, it’s Argent! Didn’t recognize you with that avatar
I don’t recognize me with this avatar either! I’m going back to the old one tomorrow.
Blue Screen of Death, basically the sudden shock = the character almost frozen still from it. Peanut is prone to those but Fox (Here and when King shaved) and King (Tarot says he was human) had them during this arc.
Ah, I see. Thanks.
Good as always. Those pesky little nameless pups ^_^
Hey, welcome, don’t think I’ve seen you around before. Always nice to see a new “face”.
I want a welcome wagon, too!
Well Hi!
What do they do to call an individual pup?
“Hey! Stop that.”
I feel mor educated every time I look at these comments
Ditto.
You should read more of them then. You forgot the ‘e’ in ‘more’ XD
ai tired good night mai peeps -_-
Hey, good night then. After all your comments you really…. Wait a minute; peeps?
Judging from your previous comment, “mai” must stand for “multiple artificial intelligences”.
Hey! He’s insulting our intelligence(s)!
SHE!! >XO
I guess that’s what you get for using Natani as your avatar
*snerk*
Sorry, trying not to laugh. It’s hard unless you clamp down on your muzzle, but that just hurts.
hah i told you Sonic was a girl.^_^
im talk’in to FuRrY.
yah y dund’t u guys just listen to puddy15
Because she’s my sister. Now when do brothers ever listen to their sisters?!
life and death situation, maybeh? ^_^
waitz u twoz iz bro and sis o_O
THAT’S SO COOLZ!!! ^_^
Yeah. Now if only Gravatar could tell the difference between Internet Browsers as well as IP Addresses. Because then she could use Google Chrome and I could use FireFox without having to worry about having to change the Name and Email fields all the time.
KING DON”T LOOK AT THE LIGHT!!! Man this poor ol corgi pooch has been through a lot
RUN FROM THE LIGHT!
Writing comes more easily if you have something to say.
Sent from my iPad 4G
Becuase he had nothing to say?
I think it’s automatic, actually. My friend sends me emails all the time from his iPod and it’s not a signature, but it gets attached anyways.
Heh. I thought only Blackberries* had that feature
* the ‘official’ plural for BlackBerry is BlackBerry(R) Smartphones, which nobody ever says seriously
Pretty much all handhelds that support email do that these days.
I’m posting from an iPhone and it doesn’t do that for me here, even though it does on my email. Of course, mine is only 3Gs, so maybe.
Perhaps it’s a not-so-obscure reference to the email text?
Wow, Miles looks a little… wider than normal.
I’d imagine the same expression from Fox if King ever decides to confess to him.
Assuming he even believes King. If you were in Fox’s position, would you believe him?
maybe.
Sincerely? Probably not *chuckles*
The same expression, followed by laughter, then confusion.
Oh Keene, you look so deliciously EVIL in that last panel!
<..>
Well that wasn’t a weird thing to say. Didn’t sound creepy at all. Really.
Yeah… I’m going to bed now.
I was going to pick that as my first-ever Housepets gravatar, but decided it doesn’t really suit me.
Certainly evil XD
um…okay then
I just love Keene’s sneaky grin.
…and King jumped from the pan to the fire… O_o
with a fireproof suit on
No, no, not fireproof; fire-retardant.
Hm, is it just me, or did Miles gain a little weight?
It’s the angle he’s at. I think the only way to fix it would be to make his side more concave.
Miles gained some muscle if you ask me
THAT’S WHAT I THOUGH! :U
This could’ve easily been Peanut when they first met.
So that’s where Peanuts’ been?
I’ll leave this avatar up for the rest of the day, but tomorrow I’m going back. I don’t feel like me like this.
Mayhaps I should take mine down too. I’m not the least bit buff.
…
And if you know what “mayhaps” means nowadays, you know that’s not very likely.
Ever read the Drake Maijstral novels?
No, but now that you mentioned them, (and I’ve read the 5 books I have out) I’ll check them out.
I finally found a copy of “Rock of Ages”. It’s not as good as “The Crown Jewels” or “House of Shards”… it rides perilously close to the edge of farce.
Heh. I guess I’m used to seeing you change characters already.
Seconded. I’m having trouble making you out from the rest of the mob of craz… ahem… from the rest of the people
Better?
Or this one, with the eyes and hair recolored?
Uh… nope. Now it just looks wierd. If you adjusted keene’s fur pattern to match yours, or gave him clases, it would… er… put my mind at ease
Sorry, glasses, not clases
Even if you did mean “clases”, then you would have misspelled it anyways XD
Viola!
That did the trick!
Bino: we rest here a good old dog named King.
King: i’m not dead you son of a *****!
Bino calling King “good old dog”? I think he’d probably pee over the place in where he’s buried XD
That would be on top of his head. (See below post)
Surely *chuckles*
well atleast king is still happy about living underground…. lol
Or at least partially (I believe they left his head above ground.
your picture is perfect for that post.
The “It’s still better than my old home” line made this comic simply perfect.
Hmmm, I sense much evil in this ferret…Much evil indeed. XD
What? It’s your imagination!
Yeah! Just look at that innocent face! XD
Hmmm well it seems…you maybe delusional. XD I can sense evil in any forms…for the imagination ’tis where evil comes from and for I AM Evil myself ;P
Embrace your evil Mr. Milton…embrace it and realize your true potential!! XD
With this innocent face?
You must be using a different email/account, no? Because I see your normal avvie up above…
I discovered that Gravatar was willing to accept a variation on my email address as a different avatar.
Well King better start learning guerilla fighting tactics or atleast CQC styles if he doesn’ wanna get burried more often XD
“I learned guerilla fighting … from a gorilla!”
Nice!
So that’s where the “banana nation” nick name came from
Purple monkey dishwasher?
Wasn’t it “banana republic”?
Oh, that’s what he meant! I could make neither head nor tail of it.
Great, now I have “Vicinity of Obscenity” in my head. -.-’
Best arc evar.
Is it just the angle and expressions and all, or does Miles look a bit porkier than usual?
Oh, dear…Poor King…Yep. DEEEEEEEEFINITELY a new can of worms.
(By the way, are all the cubs male, or is that littler one female? I get the feeling that one’s a girl…maybe…)
(Nope. I think they’re all male.
…
Why are we whispering?)
I’m pretty sure Rick is running on comic book time. The pets and animals don’t age.
Same expression, maybe. “This is my sly face!”
And for those who don’t want to bother with the link…
which is no longer there
Though judging by your 4:54 PM comment at the bottom, you know that already
Yes, I was Ninja’d.
OMG AI HAVE AH DAWG NAMED RUFUS AND HE’S FURLESS AND HAS NO TEETH!!! XD
Yep…it’s still better than living with Pete
Amen brother!
And you turn yourself around…
(And get plowed into the dirt…)
Since we seem to be going in inverse order: “You do the hokey-pokey”
I remember coming across a newspaper cartoon once… from Dan Piraro or one of those other weird artists, that had someone wondering “What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it’s all about?”
Silly Pups!
Everybody noes Ur supposed 2 bury Ur prey deep in the forest.
why does king always get the bad famillies?
is that goimg to be a curse for the rest of his life as a corgi?
poor him knows only misery from the beginning
I think I´m gonna have to agree with him in panel 3 of this commic
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/12/11/where-do-lonely-hearts-go/
Well, Joel/Kings apparently-obnoxious parents, prison, peta, prison, Pete, and literal wolves do all seem like a bit of a downer as far as homes go.
Well, considering this strip – http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/05/24/king-in-a-series-of-costumes-at-the-sears-photo-center/ – and his asking for asylum, I’d say that life with Pete was pretty bad.
Most people aren’t easily diverted to thinking of others after a bomb goes off in their face.
er ok if you look at the christmas arc
then indeed he deserves a medal
(only because I would have become that monster)
yes, King will be juuust fine, as long as he’s as careful as a ferret when he’s around the wolf cubs. ^_^ pun!
Since King survived the bitter days with Pete I’m pretty sure he will survive a bunch of cute “innocent” wolf cubs ^-^
As long as they don’t tie him up to a bottle rocket, or use him as a science project, or if dogs can fly!!
“as a ferret”? but… you… wouldn’t that require performing additional magic on him?
PuDdY/FuRrY perhaps meant “as careful as a ferret”?
Only problem is… I have never associated “careful” and “ferrets”.
what do ya meanz by PuDdY/FuRrY?
we bro an sis so wez forgetz to log out of the account thingyz. O_o
Sorry.
See what I mean about ferrets not being careful?
You can tell the difference between us easily: I don’t (often) make spelling/grammatical errors. I “proofread” each comment before I submit it.
ya dont have ta say your sorry cause i was jus asking why you said PuDdY/FuRrY. XD
Oh an FuRrY i comment like dis on purpose. O_o
I know XD
Man, King is getting waaay to beat up. We gotta give him time to recuperate, or else there won’t be much left of him!
Luckily for him it’s the end of the arc.
wait….what shovel is Miles talking about? is it the magical talking shovel from Monster of the Monster lair. O_o
Was that supposed to be a Monty Python reference?
maybe….. ok no it wasn’t i was talking ’bout Monster of the monster lair video game for DS so in other words no its not. O_o
Sod? Expensive? Bah!
Need we remind them what kind of jacket these ferrets have?
Miles probably has his own money (which he gets from his job as security guard) and pays for his sod from that. And consider that Mr. Stewart watches over their expenses; I don’t think he’ll authorize too big of a salary for Keene’s little experiment
He’s also teaching good housekeeping (for lupine values thereof) to the cubs.
i wonder if anyonez notized dis but Miles is fairly buff and his cubs are fairly buff as well but then you turn straight to Fox an hez so slim, as in he dont have any muscles
does anyone rememeber the Animaniacs? raise your hand with courage people!
Woohoo! Animaniacs!
*Sings* It’s time for An-i-man-i-acs And we’re zany to the max!
“We are animan-y
“Totally insane-y
“Pinky and the Brain-y
“Animani-acs! That’s all there is!”
Out of curiosity, what does that have to do with today’s arc? (And please don’t say “Buttons”!)
nothing what so ever.
Narf!*
*(Translated to: Socks! Mittens! Scarfs! Jackets!
Buttons…)
O’ course I remember ‘em! I constantly have the Pinky and the Brain theme song going through my head, first from re-watching the “Macadena” song on YouTube, then because of a (slightly hidden) reference in one of the Yu Gi Oh Abridged series episodes.
In Pinky and the Brain, it was called the “Smirkahoven”
Well, I already had the main theme song in my head all the time, but now I have the Pinky and the Brain theme song, the Macadamia song, the It’s a Quake song, and the I’m Mad song. Geez.
Welcome to the wonderful world of earworms!
Hear, hear!
That’s what Ctrl+F is for
I’m too lazy to register for yet another forum. I’ve lost count of how many forums I’ve posted in once or twice, then forgot about. Eventually I will convince myself to sign up; but for now, I’ll just have to make sure what I say has some relation to the comic.
This.
is.
Just agreement, not the start of a sentence.
I believe you should read this !!
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/07/16/note-about-the-comments-section/
arff
Alt-text said what I was about to.
Is it just me or does Miles look like he’s getting pudgy? :U
It’s from one of his old skits. Remember Cosby used to be a rather hard-edged comic before his tone softened.
Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtvnF4UJFV8
One of our neighbours actually had a realtor by the name of Jesus (pronounced like you said). He was either Korean or Chinese, I couldn’t tell from his picture alone.
Oh. Right. Comic relation.
Uh….
Cute cubs are cute!
i secondz wat FuRrY321 saidz.
Figurez XD
Ngh… an i thought youz said that youz rarely make spell’in mistakes
That IS rarely
Is it a misteak if yew do it on porpoise?
No, only on an orca.
Orca MSI Editor?
…
Oh, THAT Orca!
An excellent conclusion to an excellent arc. I know await patiently the next installment.
Really? So the movies aren’t all that bad?
Funny, my 11 year old sister, who some people would think would love that kind of thing, came back saying it was cheesy. Throughout the whole movie, she and her friends were rating the (guy) characters on a “hotness” scale. Of course, they were being sarcastic (at least she was, anyway).
And she read the books, too.
Anyways, I just got back from “The Last Airbender”. I personally don’t understand why some people would give that such a “bad rap”. I mean, sure, not everybody’s seen the anime series, but that’s their own fault.
From the commercials I’ve seen, I think it’s funny that they picked an East Indian guy to play Zuko, the Imperial Japanese Prince.
And who said the director/producer was racist?
I don’t think Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan (M. Night Shyamalan) is racist. Though I wish The Sixth Sense didn’t seem so much like a fluke in retrospect. I loved that movie.
Well, in the anime, the Fire Nation was basically Imoerial Japanese and the Water Tribes were like the Inuits, so I would have expected that decision to be flipped (from what it was).
i wonder…. just exactly how many things have the cubs buried in the yard, in America?
the in America joke is a inside thing jus ta let’cha know. ^_^
does it have anything to do with expressions of the type: “only in america… do banks leave both doors open and chain pens to the desks”?
im not sure, i got it from YU GI OH abridged series! XD
To give you a hint:
“You’re not American! You’re not even wearing a flag on your head!”
“Oh, that’s right! I must have left it back home… in America!”
If my sister’s clue wasn’t obvious enough…
i kinda said wat it waz so it wasn’t really a hintz……… SOD!
why iz ma avatar do’in dis?
You misspelled your email address, most likely. -.-’
that kinda funny
D
aaaaw, King is getting along just fine with the cubs.
and here I was, thinking he was not a children person .
i wondeeeeerrrrrrr if King is going to stay there for awhile an hez hang’in out with the cubs from time to time then what exactly will King bury in the yard considering if ya hangs out with the cubz ya might become like themz. ^_^
Is this his “asylum”???
I’m guessing King doesn’t play chess.
no no he does not
He needs to introduce the cubs to D&D.
With Joey nearby, that may not be such a good idea
I think the cubs could be a very good influence on Joey.
Why not? Joey may be a little odd, but he doesn’t seem likely to be a worse influence than video games.
i’ve been meaningz ta ask wat is yourz avatar?
SOD ROX!
I always thought it was a chinese dragon, but Thoth probably has a better (and longer) answer
I always thought it looked like some sort of dog – at a glance.
A quasi-canine creature from an obscure strip with an interesting concept.
XD True, he’ll defnitelly -grow- to like the place.
… ok, awful pun =P
….
GTFO.
puns are made to be awful .. and you did a good job there.. arff
i love it
lolz
People usually judge moves against what they expected of them, rather than the movie itself. Disney’s Around the World in 80 days isn’t, in itself, such a bad movie, but people panned it because they expected more because they kept thinking of the 1956 version. Harry Potter 1 was crap (you couldn’t know what was going on without reading the book), but people praised it because they got everything they expected to get from the book.
Shouldn’t we take this to the forum though?
And the comment I was replying to was deleted, confirming what I say in my last line
It was the same comment Furry321 was replying to yesterday at 10:31 PM, if anyone wants to know
Rick’s been doing some really clever surgical edits today. Props.
Yeah. I can’t even remember that comment XD
That’s because Rick edited your memory!
No…
He flashy-thingied it!

Hey all you guys look like CHARACTERS from the Comic
I see head guy get’s to be a Kitsune
Some people do, anyway…
So I got an avatar..how do I make it show?
Rick ya should do a chat thingyz so that ya dont have to go throughz tha whole comment pagez an delete tha comments that dontz involvez tha comicz.
what do yaz think Rick? ^_^
Well, we’ve got a forum. Theoretically that should be enough. Or do you mean replacing the comments section with a chat? If so, don’t listen to her! Half the fun of going through the archives is seeing what people commented way back when!
noz i meanz ta say that we couldz have a chat and a commenting page. ^_^
You know a ferret is out to get you when they put you in a wolf home >_>
You know a ferret is out to get you when they notice you.
Especially with that look
So innocent and deceptive.
Haha, this was funny. XD Well… all of them were funny. :3
Miles does look like he gained a bit more, but he still looks buff. KEEP HIM BUFF. Poor King getting buried by his cubs. XD
I can’t wait to see more about King; hopefully telling Fox the truth soon.
Keep up the good work~
Fox stares.
“You’re the only one I can trust, Fox.”
“…wait, you were serious!?”
WHO WOULDN’T LOVE TO SEE THAT?! D:
It’ll come out eventually. Either Tarot or Pete will be present when it happens, or have some kind of influence on it.
lol they buried king XD athough i see him having a great time
seriously why is ma avv do’in dis?
whhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! O_o
never mind i miz spelled ma email. ^_^
It is frustrating when you make a new avatar and it doesn’t show up, isn’t it Puddy15?
frustrating, no not at all
/sarcastic
what’s that thing mile’s wearing? is it some kind of necklace/collar?
It’s a tag, on either a thong or a chain. Presumably is shows his name, that he belongs to the Milton Trust, and – most likely – some other information. Personally, I’d hope that it includes his blood type (I’m not sure what types canines have, but I believe they do have them) and emergency contact information. He is working as a security guard after all.
Yes dogs do have blood types. They have 8 major ones and apparently 13 total but only 8 are common enough to be used and classified or something like that. They are DEA 1.1,1.2 and then 2 through 8.
Ah, somewhat greater genetic diversity there than I would have expected if that’s just for dogs – or is it the complete suite for canidae?
I think that’s just domestic dogs not all Canidae but don’t quote me on it.
It’s a dogtag. Literally.
It’s a “Dog eat Dog” world…
.. or in this case “Wolf – eats – Dog” world.
Don’t bite the paws that feed you King!
funny fact about this strip: Miles scolded his kids for burying their PREY in the lawn, not their FRIEND.
Ouch. King better stay at bed when someone is out for a midnight snack…
Well, they’ve never met him before. Hopefully it will be “friend” shortly.
Ack, this one got moderated for an excess of hockeysticks, then disappeared, so I reposted it (below).
Oh, yes, I agree with that sentiment. I used to do a bit of sketching, just enough to realize how bad I was and how far I had to go, and I’m not worthy to lick his brushes. But still, it does seem that Fox is unusually off-model here.
True enough. He does seem a bit skinny and angular suddenly, at least to me – but he might just have brushed down his fur a bit or be at an odd angle or something I suppose.
maybe Rick didn’t even know or pay attention to the detail. XD
I’d comment on that here, but I already said something like that up above. Basically, I think it’s a role-shift, physically represented.
“Bury me not in old… Wolf-ginny”
Okay… I know it doesn’t work, but they’re not in Virginia, and I’m (cough … cough) just an old SOD!
crapstupidchangerforthecommentingthingy
i meant to put this where it says coz we could have a chat an a commenting page(FuRrY321 SAYS IT).
Oh, Keene, you silly, silly ferret.
Do you think the ferrets get confused when someone asks to speak to “Mister Milton”? Y’know, cause they all have the same name and…and…..oh, forget it.
