Fox = Dog that was named after another animal.
King = Dog that has tears of joy in one panel b/c his supernatural, abusive owner has moved out.
Miles = Buff Wolf brought out from the wild by an invitation from the ferrets to say “animals are people too!”
Miles decided to come in from the wild by himself, and was picked up by a ferret from the city streets after he found everyone was running away from him.
It explains that since Tarot and the Great Kitsune interfered, Pete is not allowed to keep King against his will and since king does not want to be Pete’s “Avatar” and Pete does not want to turn king back to a human, Pete was forced to leave King alone, but as a dog. So he left the house and King alone. Knowing that king was alone and that the house was empty the ferrets probably gave the house to the wolves and now King is the same as them: a “humanized” animal living without a owner on the city. That’s all I think.
Also leaves out how the ferrets would know – or why they’d bother moving King in with the wolves rather than simply leaving him in the house; they are effectively the landlords after all. I think the chain goes a bit past the ferrets there.
Or it could be the reward from the Kitsune, you know, being emancipated? Being able to, oh, say, live like the humans do?
I can imagine it will be difficult for a domestic like King. After all, it would be extremely hard to adjust to such a sudden change in lifestyle. He’s probably had no experien- oh. Wait. He used to be a human, right?
Like Grape explaining that she knew Peanut had a crush on her – of course she noticed! But we’ve been trained by cheap dramas to expect characters to be conveniently clueless, so it was a huge surprise.
Never expect what is to be expected, instead expect what one would expect to be unexpected…which would make the unexpected expected…but then that would make the expected unexpected, which means that the unexpected would actually be what is expected,or unexpected…owww…
Perhaps, but let’s not also forget that he couldn’t stand Pete as an owner, and now that he’s gone, he’s a “free” man/dog. Since he’ll be living with the wolves, he’ll have no owner, and this will likely turn out to be a good thing, as he is no longer being oppressed.
Besides bino would make sense because hes the kind of person that would allow some one to take him on as an avatar if it gave him power and lots of it!
Since the cosmic beings seem to have psychic abilities, I doubt that’d be a problem– unless, of course, all the Mr. Bigglesworths have identical thought processes.
Sort of, he’s moved in with the Wolves so in some ways they are his new owners but in others since he’s in the ferrets program he’ll be able to gain more independence. Perhaps he could find work and start to gain back some of the human privileges that he lost.
Of course the drawback is he now literally lives with a pack of wolves. He was never a fan of sniffing to begin with…
On the serious side? It’s a lot easier to treat any injury or skin problem which a furry creature acquires if you shave off a bit of hair first. Ergo, he might just have a simple and pragmatic reason, and be fooling around.
If he must have a personal reason, who knows? Perhaps that hat is covering up a bald spot that needs treatment.
Well yes, but you most likely wouldn’t use shaving cream and a razor if it was a cut, which is probably what would be the most requiring of fur removal in the first place.
Well, going by personal experience, it’s usually a sore or other skin problem and a set of clippers followed by an electric clipper – but a razor would work fine if you could actually explan what you needed.
I can usually recognize troll sites. I just thought BWW was a harsh but genuine comic review site that pointed out places not to go on the internet. I disagreed with them over Dreseden Codak, but all the other comics they mentioned that I’d run into tended to deserve a modicum of their critique. Perhaps not the undiluted hate that appeared in certain reviews, but certainly some of the more well-founded criticisms.
It might be a more genuine review site, but as a free-for-all, especially with a leading name like “Bad Webcomics”, that means that it attracts a number of users who are just looking for excuses to trash something
The Reward issue is starting to become like a fortune cookie.
You know something in reality will happen akin to the prediction, but you have no way of knowing what.
meaning, huh? I recognize it, but I forgot. Greek oracle, gave prophecies? Wait, now I get it. The prophecies were useless until they happened, most of the time, because of double (or triple, or quadruple) meanings, right?
Read Oedipus for an extreme example of their uselessness. Although, I was thinking more like Nostra Damus: so intentionally vague, people point to anything and say it was what he was referring to
OK, so the game master is definitely engaging in a bit of manipulation, apparently though the ferrets; otherwise there’s no likely way that they’d know the same night that Pete was gone in time to send the wolves to pick up King and to set up a bed for him.
Ergo, at least for awhile, King gets to more-or-less live as a human, and possibly gets a job. He’ll certainly make an easy test case for the “animals managing to live as humans” notion.
That also makes it seem reasonably likely that the Great Kitsune had a hand in arranging matters in Babylon Gardens – which is fairly expected in gaming terms – and that the game may involve opposing manipulations there involving the Equal Chance Program. That does go a long ways towards confirming some of the old speculations about why Pete stuck around Babylon Gardens (while tending to eliminate others). If that’s so, it provides an excellent reason for Pete to choose King as an Avatar, and a reason for the Spirit Dragon to protest, and still leaves the sides Pete and the Spirit Dragon have chosen ambigious enough so that Pete could STILL be the good guy in the situation.
Now to wait for the next strip and more information…
Perhaps sadly, neither of those will find wide legal application – I’m sure that there are an awful lot of animals out there who could use a bit of progress on the civil-rights front.
I was going to ask a question on how you make such good theories, but then I answered myself: it’s because you over-analyze. But then again, don’t we all?
Pete being the good guy seems… unlikely at this point.
The other two outright called him a jerk and a monster, and he tried to brainrape King without a second thought.
Rick is smart enough to keep it enough of a mystery to make sure we stick around, and he’s also clever enough to give us just enough clues to keep it ambiguous. I’d admire his evil genius if it didn’t leave me so deep in the dark like this. ><
Oh, at this point it would be difficult – although not impossible – for Pete to turn himself into a “good guy”. That doesn’t mean that his victory conditions for the game might not be something most of the readers would consider “a good thing”. Given that the Great Kitsune seems to be the game master, states that he (?) has a policy of Intrinsic Benevolence, and has no apparent reason to be making manipulative statements (unlike Pete and possibly the Spirit Dragon) it seems likely that the victory conditions for both Pete AND the Spirit Dragon are something helpful to the Housepets world.
Thus the theory that the Spirit Dragon wants to keep the Housepets world much the way it is save for minor changes (and, having picked an avatar with a loving family, sees nothing wrong with that), while Pete is supporting the major changes of “legal rights for animals and moving towards equality” side of things. That would make sense of the Spirit Dragon apparently supporting the status quo, her statements on love, and of the fact that she seems to be opposing Pete rather than making moves of her own – while it also makes sense of Pete’s supposed goals, of his having picked a confirmed animal rights activist to turn into an animal and kick around, and of a lot of his behavior. That would set King up as a potential animal civil rights activist who is familiar with the details of human culture and the pets legal status by taking advantage of his (Pete’s) apparent social ineptitude and rules-lawyering – and account for him having gone along with the Spirit Dragons choice of rules to play under. He may just be good at winning with more versions of the rules than she is (which would be why the Great Kitsune gave him the more active – and ultimately beneficial – goal).
There are other theories of course, but that one accounts for more of the known facts at the moment than most of my others. If something comes up that contradicts it, then it’s time to dump it and try another theory.
Oh dear. Massive block of text time again. Oh well; it’s what I do.
No~, Pete. Don’t leave us. Come back. If King lives with them, I like feel he is going to do some major execise training trying to get big and buff as the wolves. Just a funny thought.
I’m sorry, but when you use textspeak like “thers always sum1s free will 2 mess w/”, calling someone out on “exercie” is the metaphorical pot calling the metaphorical kettle black.
I was going to say something along the lines of irony, and grammar Nazi urges, but I couldn’t figure out how to say it nicely. How do people say things nicely?! Why can I not figure this out?!
As for the erroneous error correction, it’s something of an internet tradition that any post correcting another person’s post will, itself, have at least one error.
This could turn his life around even more! With his small body figure, he’ll change it into something grand. Making himself “BIG” in the world (actually I meant neighborhood) and surprise everyone. Well, I’m only being silly here and in truth, I like King as he is now.
I think I’m starting to see what’s going on in this universe. Babylon Gardens is the equivalent of Ft. Crawlins. (Deliberately fails to explain to see if anyone gets it.)
RFOM is part of the extended OtterComics website which includes a ton of strips drawn by Oren himself including The Changing Workplace, The Changing Workplace 2, Oren’s Monastery, Mixed Signals, Orwell’s Gas Station, Knight Shift (originally his sister’s strip), Otter Island and Amanda. Almost all of them have fantasy or transformation themes set with largely funny animal casts.
Alright FINE! I was wrong. He was in somebody else’s house. Now, let’s quickly move on, skipping the “I told you so”s. Which, of course, I would not have lingered on had I been right. Not even a little bit. Okay, maybe. MOVING ON.
I think that going from emotionally abused pet to member of the ferrets’ program is a darn good reward, and the closest that Great Kitsune is going to come to changing him back while staying within the rules, so yeah, I woul like to officially congratulate and thank Rick for the amazing job he’s done.
And Daryl, you shall from now on be my favorite wolf, at least until a different wolf does something funny.
As an afterthought, Miles is now wearing tags; evidently the wolf-pack is making sure that they’re obeying the letter of the law, and displaying that they’re now a part of civilization, while avoiding collars. A nice and sensible compromise.
Lucretia, Daryl, and the cubs presumably have them too – if only because Miles is the leader and for safety – but I wonder what they all actually think of them?
I suspect it’s no worry unless they go heavily into perfumed shampoo. After all, wild wolves get rained on all the time. Fortunately, humans are mostly nose-blind anyway.
and… he lives with wolves…. uh, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Will he go a little feral?
ALso…. just want is up with all the mystic powers that be? This is….
But also, notice Fox’s Question, he is as much in the dark as King is…. it seems only the wolves are knowing… or does anyone know anything when a Kitsune is involved?
I think what happened was that Kitsune got Pete to sign King up for the Equal Chance Program before he kicked him out. King gets free of Pete (FOR NOW!), Kitsune gets to half-grant King’s wish to be human again while staying in the letter of his own rules, and Pete is not allowed back in Babylon Gardens until he gets an avatar. EVERYBODY WINS! Well, except for Pete, but he’s “kind of a jerk”, so whatever.
But seriously peanut didn’t win he was never in the comic. and bino didn’t get to torture king and grape never got to rip off his appendages. I doubt she’d do that now though.
Strip-wise it would be July 5 which in RL 2010 was a Monday. Besides while Sasha proposed a “walkie” on Tuesday we never saw King accept it, perhaps too drunk on Orange Soda and too busy flirting with any girl canines to notice. Thank goodness Tarot snapped him out of it.
The alt text and the title are both from the song “Once In A Lifetime” by The Talking Heads (not The Human League as I typed earlier)
I know this because a work on dA referenced the same part of this song either last year or earlier this year, so I looked it up then. I hardly know the difference between The Talking Heads and The Human League myself.
With no supervision of a blue overgrown chicken to boss King around he stays at Mile’s place for the time being. For reasons unknown Daryl uses a shaving kit and with the company of Miles cubs running around the house causing mayhem?
Best quwstion in panel 4 so far. XD But yeah women have their wierd stuff no one else can understand. So let’s see if this has any point in the story.
These wolves with their acting like humans thing. I just love it. X3
So King’ll be livin with the wolves now, cool can’t wait!
Ummmmm I think I just realised that he meant somethin like I misstook Daryl for a woman. Sorry. XP
But still can’t make heads or tails of the “thinking-brain human” part. :p
I doubt that Pete will give up on King just yet; the fact that he bothered to transform him, instead of simply going for one of the easy targets in the first place, indicates that he saw a worthwhile advantage there – or that he’s set up an Xanatos gambit, and King is either a diversion or his present situation is serving Pete’s purposes somehow.
That would make sense of his astoundingly feeble defense of his actions with regards to Joel/King though. It’s very hard to tell the difference between manipulation and incompetence until someone succeeds or fails – and sometimes it’s hard to tell even then.
A gryphon is a bird-lion combination.
Retrievers are often trained for bird hunting, and so are referred to as bird dogs.
Ergo, Pete the bird-lion could choose a bird-dog as his canine avatar.
King looks soo happy on panel 3 after hearing that Pete is gone. Good to see that he got a “once in a lifetime” chance to go back to living sort of like a human with the wolves.
Well, they’ve all got fur, so it could have been anyones – but Miles may know that the cubs haven’t had a chance to acquire one, be fairly sure that Lucretia doesn’t have one, and quite sure that he doesn’t. Ergo, Daryl.
That’s a shame. Not to sound crazy but I rather enjoyed Pete as the owner. Having King getting knocked down by Pete gave me a cathartic impression about King’s predicament.
Having said that it’s nice see King’s new leash on life. (Pun intended.) I find it satisfying to have a miserable character like King to finally get rewarded for once.
I’m just wondering if living with wolves will be the right move for King. I mean look how short he is compared to Miles!!! Just when you thought Fox was tall now you got roommates that tower even Fox! XD
His job will be fixing things most likely. Why call the cable guy when you can just call the all in one dog! He’ll be like the jack of all trades for animals xD
…….
That, or the ferrets will pick his job and it will be something like… Well, something silly o.O This IS Rick we talking about! xD
“It took me months, Miles, but I’ve finally done it! See? These wires go to the cathode-ray tube which projects the image onto this side, and these circuits here transfer the image!”
“But television has already been invented”
“What? It’s not a television! It’s a device to transmit and receive a sequence of images in conjunction with… drat; it is a television!”
Hate to be a jerk, but– http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/12/04/try-to-understand/
–really? They kinda pointed it out there. You just forget? I mean…nobody’s more clueless than I am…^_^;; I’m sure you just completely forgot. It’s white and can be hard to see or make out at times, after all…
There was a comedy show in the 1980s starring Bob Newhart as the owner of an inn in Vermont. Some of the supporting characters were a set of three brothers. Only one spoke, and whenever they entered, that one always said, “Hi, I’m Larry. This is my brother Darryl. And this is my other brother Darryl.”
When Miles introduced Peanut to his brother originally, he said, “and this is my other brother, Daryl.”
I’d wager just the one. Odd he introduced him as “my other brother” but that was likely just a Newhart reference. (Who knows maybe Miles is a fan of that show…although Rick likely just wrote that it because it’s funny)
King could be a veritable fountain of knowledge for the wolves:
King: … so that’s why you should cook the meat.
Miles: Wow, I had no idea.
Lucretia: How do you know so much about humans anyway?
King: I used to b… belong to a doctor. *sweatdrop*
Oh, wolves can be pretty badly affected by tissue-parasites picked up from their prey. There are all kinds of unpleasant organisms out there, as well as prions. They’d be a LOT better off if they could cook things on that front alone. Secondarily, cooked food requires a great deal less energy to chew and digest – enough to make a major difference in a creature’s energy budget.
Anyone else wondering what King was doing at night when the wolves came over and hauled him away? “Technically he was in the astral plane. How’d his body go from the woods to his bed while spiritually his wasn’t there?
Was King still on the plane when the wolves took him home, though? We don’t know… well, just about anything about the whole situation, really.
It’s a little early to be calling “deus ex machina”, I think, without a lot more info regarding the party->house transition than we have at present. Especially since getting to the house from the party hardly qualifies as an “inextricable problem” that’s part and parcel of the definition of DEM, nor are the wolves something Rick just now threw in with no previous setup for their presence.
perhaps time is frozen while they’re in the astral plane.
thus for all the other pets… king just went a bit drunk, got lost in the forest.. “fell” there….
got found by wolves, found that Pete (king’s supposed owner..) is gone… so they relocated him while he was KO..
He probably fainted either when he saw Pete, or when he saw Tarot’s transformation, and the rest was likely in his head. Then SD and GK arranged for King’s pickup by the wolves.
Anyone else notice that the wolf in second panel does not look anywhere near as buff as he does in the third and fourth panels? At least we get to see more wolves, that is really what this comic needed. More wolves.
“… and then winter came, where they were forced to eat Sir Robin’s minstrels… and there was much rejoicing; and then came spring, then summer; and fall was completely skipped and went right on to winter…”
Am I the only one who thinks King looks more… mature in this strip? Like he finally is starting to feel like he’s in control of his own life?
This no-Pete-until-he-finds-an-avatar will really help build King’s self-esteem, as well as friendships with the other animals. Who knows, maybe King will start coming out of his shell?
Pretty much guaranteed to be a huge improvement over life with Pete anyway – although he may have more problems with falling back into human behavior patterns now that he’ll be in an environment where those apply.
The really interesting question there is why King is worried about people finding out about his prior identity. It seems like the thinks that the police, and presumably theother human inhabitants of the Housepets universe, would give serious consideration to the notion that he’s a transformed human. That’s either paranoia, some serioussuperstition, or evidence that the Housepets universe normally allows at least a bit of magic even outside of intervention by cosmic entities depending on whether or not he’s right.
Given how everyone there seems to assume that Tarot’s being psychic (or looking that way to those not aware of Spirit Dragon, anyway) isn’t anything out of the ordinary, I think there is at least a possibility, as he sees it, of someone accepting the truth about his transformation, and acting accordingly (particularly Fox, given the whole kidnapping thing and his reaction when the subject of said attack came up in conversation with Joel!King, in the Dec 16, 2009 strip).
Mind you, it could just be unfounded paranoia on his part, too, but in his current condition if someone decided to get into a fight with him, King is unlikely to come out on top, so to speak.
(Never mind the obvious physical issues, I don’t think Joel knew how to fight as a human, let alone when having claws and fangs [such as they are, on corgis ] as a dog.)
Oh yes – that’s why my current perferred theory is that the Housepets universe allows some level of psychic powers outside of dolphin telepathy and (probably) a little magic (if that’s really distinguishable from ritually-focused psychic abilities).
It’s just that Joel/King’s worry over his transformation being revealed is either rational (there is enough magic to make it creditable) or irrational (there isn’t, and he’s either deluded or uninformed). I’m curious as to which – and wondering if I’ve missed any evidence.
Anyway, I’d hope that Fox was mostly trying to impress his new friend with the “I’d strangle him!” routine – and that being friends with King would lead him to remember that Joel objected to the kidnapping and that King seems like a rather decent (if easily led) fellow.
waaiiiiiit, in panel 4 Daryl says he has to keep his secrets but when he says “secrets” that could mean a lot like he hates his fur and shaves some off or ……….. i just realized what he coulda meant by that. XD
No, probably not. But my theory is that wolves grow out there fur at different times of the year right? Mainly during winter where it’s cold. But this wolves are spose to be more human like, so maybe they trim some of their fur during the winter? That or thought “Humans have it, so we must too!”
Oh well, for another random hypothesis… Daryl has it to practice shaving decorative patterns into fur, since he aims to become the worlds first feral wolf hairdresser. That’s also why he wore a hat even in the wilds.
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
… Come on. NOBODY else caught the song lyric in the title?
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
Well, I’m imagining the asterisk in the last comic was quickly followed by screaming. If that was out of shock or pain, I can’t tell. It’s likely he was starting to press too hard, and that’s what woke him up (fully).
Well, that’s what the asterisk means. It was originally a thought-bubble or dream/daydream bubble popping, back when people actually got the Sunday papers for the funnies.
Huh, not sure I like where it’s going but I’ve always been happy and pleased with the other storylines. It just seemed like an odd resolution to the story is all.
Course, I am complaining about situations involving magic so I could be wrong!
Many of the comic translators in the the forums do something similar to that (they put it under the comic, in the blank space). I wouldn’t be surprised if Rick also did the alt-text this way when he makes the book.
I don’t know about a webcomic, or still doing it, but I remember on the cast part of the website it mentions with Spo I think that he did have a comic once, with Bino as the main character, but didn’t say the name or if he was still continuing it. Just that it was where Spo and a few others came from.
As far as I know, that one wasn’t a web-comic, it was just some drawing he shared with his close friends. When he came to the web to do it “for real”, the result was Housepets!
The comic that you’re referring to here is the comic that Rick and his brother attempted to draw when they were kids! Bino comes from that comic partly, in spirit.
He actually shared a couple of the (indecipherable, mostly) pages when his computer broke and hadn’t received any guest comics yet.
As for Housepets!, the about page explains it a tiny bit. Rick just came up with the idea, and people liked it, so he went with it. As far as I know, anyway…
As far as other webcomics, that’s probably a question only for Rick.
Probably something irrelevant that reader will never find out about.
Or something important the Rick will not mention again for a year or two before suddenly launching a wolf-centric arc that reveals it as something important long after the readers have forgotten. Knowing from what I’ve seen of Housepets it could go either way.
I hope it’s an inner newfound love of puppies! Maybe King will have playmates to keep him company. Maybe the pups will drag him off and dig up suppressed memories about his pets. The possibilities are endless, but he IS BOUND to meet the pups… can you imagine?
I’m thinking going back to using the name “Joel” will require “performing additional magic” on him. Going back to the entity legally registered under the name “Joel” definitely requires performing additional magic on him
Fox looks buff!! 0.0
Isn’t that Miles?
Yes. Yes it is
Yeah, for a moment there I thought Fox suddenly turn into some kind of tall super dog like Spot. Hee hee. My mistake.
Seriously that’s what I thought too lol!! Mybad
That’s why you READ the comic before posting. -.-;;
But, where did fox disappear to when Miles appeared?
He’s there the whole time. He’s just “behind the black”
That’s the wolf, if you’re not paying attention you’ll take a double take and look again
Am I the only one noticing King appears to be talking to himself with various facial expressions in this particular quote-tree? xD
We attract to eachother. You can see it happening further down the page, and it used to be similar with the VGcats avatards.
PsychoJoker’s avatar breaks the effect … as does yours
Done a shift-reload, still don’t see any new ones. You people are slacking off.
Looks like Furry321 took you at your word!
Correction, Miles looks Buff!!! 0.0
wich fox
Fox is the Dog and Miles is a Wolf!
I thought King was the dog?
Stop confusing us! XD
Fox = Dog that was named after another animal.
King = Dog that has tears of joy in one panel b/c his supernatural, abusive owner has moved out.
Miles = Buff Wolf brought out from the wild by an invitation from the ferrets to say “animals are people too!”
There, did that clear up any confusion?
king is the human who got turned into a dog
Miles decided to come in from the wild by himself, and was picked up by a ferret from the city streets after he found everyone was running away from him.
Oh, tricky FuRrY321, you fooled me by picking Miles instead of King.
Muahaha… *cough*
What? Me, fool somebody?
*presses hand against chest*
I could never-!
ai lub causing things like this
And this is why everyone’s brain is melting lol
And everyone’s avatar fits perfectly with they’re comment!
Wait, mine doesn’t (mumbles something in a mysterious tone)
It looks like King’s bandage number is growing, and he looks so cute covered in bandages
ai think his bandage is shrinking
That’s not a bandage, he didn’t cut himself shaving, it’s just a bald spot. His bump is gone, but the bandage is still there for now.
Aw, how… sweet? At least Pete won’t be messing with anybody’s free will… yet.
OH PEESHAW thers always sum1s free will 2 mess w/ XD
The really sad thing is that I can read that like it’s regular text. I didn’t even notice the “w/” instead of “with” until it was pointed out below.
Join the club. I could read it just fine, but had to do a double take to figure out that it wasn’t English…
This is not my beautiful wife!
Yay king lives with miles!
Wow… Looks like Miles has been hitting the gym.
I think the wolves have always been pretty buff.
They won’t be if they live much longer in suburbia.
I imagine being security for the ferrets is pretty strenuous.
“Kene to Miles, come in Miles. The TV is stuck in the drain again.”
“The… what? How do you guys keep doing that?”
“Don’t ask”
*snork* +1
I lol’d
Well, that explains… what exactly? I’ve got more questions then answers.
You know I have no clue either.
What answers do you seek, Grasshopper? I, the Mighty BluFox, will attempt to answer them…
… And if not, you can just say A Wizard Did It.
That’s not Pete’s house.
This was awesome and completely unexpected (Him staying with the Wolves I mean)
Hasnt that been the main warning expect the unexpected with Rick
Yet expect the unexpected that also makes sense.
My brain doesn’t hurt at all, as long as I remember that you keep switching them around…
Expect the unexpected unexpected, not the expected unexpected.
It’s rabbit season!
Duck season!
Rabbit season!
Duck season!
Rabbit season!
Rabbit season!
Duck season, fire!
Oh, PRONOUN trouble!
i wonder how much of a hand in things Kitsune has…
No more pete, moved in with the ferrets and wolves in a brand new program where they’re letting domestics into their ‘equal chance program’…
Convenient.
What’s this!? King with a tear in his eyes? Could it be he cared for Pete?
He is unbeleivably happy Pete is gone and someone took him in?
Seconded.
third… ed :/
Fourth
Aw man. We’re out of nesting levels.
C-c-c-combo Breaker!!!!
yes it is definitively this
I think he’s broken up that someone cared for him.
When Peanut hears King’s living with the wolves he’s going to explode from the awesome.
I don’t quite remember Peanut ever meeting King, so this probably WILL be interesting.
Oh, yeh, I don’t mean because it’s King. I mean because it’s anyone … and because it’s not Peanut.
omg … the wolf has his secrets … lol
also dawwww at king in panel 3 … arff
Thats a nice house.I wish I lived there
… with the wolves…
…Who eat their steak raw….
(I can’t even eat it well done!)
I’d introduce them to sushi.
Remember, “sushi” doesn’t necessarily equal “fish”. Sushi is how you prepare the food.
So, in theory, it is possible to make steak sushi.
Sure, I’ve even made spam musubi.
But if I wrote “I’d introduce them to sashimi” about 5% of the readers would get it.
ah you so right XD most people think thatway.
Yay Pete is gone
wOOt!
and the plot thickens!!!! hey where is pete any ways?
He got sent away until he could find is own avatar. Like… 2 comics ago or so.
Yeh, he’s not allowed into the arena (this universe) until he can convince someone to be his avatar.
right that shouldnt be hard maybe he should try fox…
wait no bino!!
Or…
…Joey…
I keep thinking Spo needs to come back as a major character for some reason. He’d be pretty much awesome, indwelled by Pete.
To be honest, though, Bino seems to have the right personality for this sort of thing.
I thought of Spo but he has the same problem as Zach – the rules apparently say “cats and dogs only”.
Besides bino would make sense because hes the kind of person that would allow some one to take him on as an avatar if it gave him power and lots of it!
“This will make more people respect you. A lot. Also, you’ll become the ultimate prankster.”
“I see. So what’s in it for me?”
“…What?”
He could posses Poom to make tiger think that the teddy bear is actually talking to him and them convince him to be his Avatar…
lol “HEY DARYL Y DO WE HAVE A SHAVING KIT IN THE BATHROOM?” XD
None of your business! >_<
A gentleman never asks and a lady never tells!
good thing im neither
I don’t think Daryl falls into either of those categories.
neither do ai :3
Daryl’s a guy, though.
(facepalm) thats the joke!!
That, and he’s a wolf…
…I’m not sure if this is a reward or for King or what, but at least it’s certain, Pete won’t be back for a bit of a while now.
He can’t re-enter the board until he has a full avatar.
methinks that he’s gonna get a cat avatar as he had planned at first, and that avatar will be Maxwell
Bino.
Or Mr. Bigglesworth.
But wait, which one?
Whichever one’s handy.
Dragon: Objection! Pete is using two avatars!
Ninetails: Pete: you’re only supposed to use Mr Bigglesworth.
Pete: I am!
Dragon: Which one?
Pete: …
Since the cosmic beings seem to have psychic abilities, I doubt that’d be a problem– unless, of course, all the Mr. Bigglesworths have identical thought processes.
Since the Mr. Bigglesworths seem to have problems keeping track themselves, I’m sure Pete could arrange to claim confusion.
I think Daryl is a pretty cool guy. eh steals hats from truck farmers and doesn’t afraid of anything.
aw u no wut a cool hat is….. a MAFIA HAT ai got 1 and ai think ai look pretty sick in it ; )
i want a top hat.
those hats r fun! but ai find them obnoxios ^ω^”
what about a wizard hat?
a blue one.
OH… MAI… GAWD….. just like Merlin WOO GO MERLIN!!!XD
Apparently that’s a new TV series I keep missing. <.<;;
ai don’t think it looks verry good if u c it tell me how it is
Well, I could just watch it on the Internets…
but what’s the point in that?
So I guess that mean’s no new owner for King. I’m kind of happy and kind of sad.
He was never a fan of sniffing to begin with…
Not to mention that Death Laser and the other cubs are bigger than him.
Sorry, I mixed up Death Axe and Space Laser.
And the third one is Darth Vader Sanchez according to the cast page
But he does have a new owner its himself (technically its the Ferrets but only on paper)
So pete left huh…interesting…
I’m still puzzled on why a wolf needs a shaving kit.
Use as blackmail to keep the bonzo kids in line, I’m guessing?
You’re supposed to be puzzled why a wolf needs a shaving kit.
But puzzles are only fun if you try to solve them!
Some puzzles are better off left as running gags.
No, not this puzzle.
“What about the noodle incident?”
“Nobody can proove I did that!”
Shaving cream == poor substitute for foaming at the muzzle
Methinks Daryl doesn’t get mad or intimidating enough around others.
So if King remembers everything that happened during his ‘dream’ I wonder how he and Tarot will interact next time
I’m now curious as to what Daryl is doing with that shaving kit… what’s under that hat of his.. o.0
wait daryl has a hat?!?! :/
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/10/19/planted-the-family-tree/
oooooooooohhhhhhhhh that clears everythin up :3
What can a wolf POSSABLY do secretly with a razor?
MANY…THINGS O_O
I’m a bit scared to ask what Daryl does with a razor.
*cute lauf* he he
I’m thinking he likes to cosplay Dale Gribble from King of the Hill.
you REALLY want to know?!?
… don’t ask …
I know what i do secretly with a razor!!!
shave cats!!! shoot its not a secret anymore… :’(
No! You… you… furderer!
I think I know…wait no I don’t…
…Yeah that would only work if we wore pants all the time
[scrubbed]

I’m afraid to look.
Don’t link to troll sites please
That’s a troll site? Sorry.
ah site w/ trolls on it? OMG that’s so cool
Let me guess, Encyclopedia Dramatica?
Bad Webcomics Wiki
hate that site it talks about a bunches of comics and says their just [censor] like 2kinds, las lindas, etc
encyclopaedia dramatic eww ick ick gross
no no no
I can usually recognize troll sites.
@Rick
Ah yes, I had the misfortune of falling upon that site. Even though I know it’s pointless, I still try to unsee what I saw on that site.
It might be a more genuine review site, but as a free-for-all, especially with a leading name like “Bad Webcomics”, that means that it attracts a number of users who are just looking for excuses to trash something
THE FERRETS ARE THE KITSUNE’S AVATARS! OR AT LEAST KEENE IS!!!!!!
the kitsune gets 1 avatar per tail… so he has 9?
If that’s the case, there’s three who are unaccounted for
Well we all know one thing… daisy is kitsune’s avatar!!! I mean nobody would expect that!!!
Except the audience. And I’m pretty sure Rick is going to try to surprize them… I mean us… I mean… ack!
Hi! I’m Daisy!
The title of the comic is a Talking Heads reference.
Which was referenced on homestarrunner.
Which explains why Rick used it :]
Also, Miles is getting ridiculously ripped.
Yeah I thought I was the only one who noticed that last bit :X
Remember the great kitsune said a reward will be coming soon
but who sed this is the reward
I’m still wondering what happened to the statue XP
The Reward issue is starting to become like a fortune cookie.
You know something in reality will happen akin to the prediction, but you have no way of knowing what.
“Delphic Oracle”
“Egyptian Cotton?”
meaning, huh? I recognize it, but I forgot. Greek oracle, gave prophecies? Wait, now I get it. The prophecies were useless until they happened, most of the time, because of double (or triple, or quadruple) meanings, right?
Oui, like “If you invade, a mighty kingdom will fall”…
Read Oedipus for an extreme example of their uselessness. Although, I was thinking more like Nostra Damus: so intentionally vague, people point to anything and say it was what he was referring to
“Secrets”? o.O
Really makes you wonder, don’t it?
xD xD… wait… D=
Well that explains…many things
“He’ll certainly make an easy test case for the “animals managing to live as humans” notion.”
He makes an even easier test case for the “humans managing to live as animals” notion.
What about the “humans living as humans in an animal’s body” test case notion?
Man, you totally turned my interpretation of what was going on
on its head!
Oh well; that’s what you do
And it’s the fun part!
I like Mile’s necklace. It reminds me of my own!
it reminds me of ah time i broke some kids arm
O _ o ;;;
wut.. he called me dumb
It’s a dogtag, isn’t it?
I’ve never seen a circular dogtag.
Where do you think dogtags got their name from?
Watch Disney’s Bolt
I like it too. It’s not unlike a collar to show ownership. And now I don’t see Miles as being “naked” like he was in his first arc.
Water flowing underground.
Love the alt text, Rick
King
The Wolves
AAAAAWWWWWEEEESSSSOOOMMME!
This mean we’ll see a lot more of the Wolves which is awesome because Miles is one of my favorite side characters
And more of Daryl, Lucretia, and the cubs.
And the cubs will lead to Peanut and Grape!
And with Peanut and Grape comes Tarot, which will inevitably lead back to King!
And thus the circle of life continues.
Circle of Fun is more appropriate
ai think it would be the circle of DESTRUCTION
(more appropriate)
Venn Diagram – a circle of circles!
…and then mind collapses into black hole
@ argent stonecutter:
venn diagram: it’s the “dude playin the dude disguised as another dude” of circles, no?
Awesome! King lives with Miles!
that… is… AWESOME
No~, Pete. Don’t leave us. Come back. If King lives with them, I like feel he is going to do some major execise training trying to get big and buff as the wolves. Just a funny thought.
u forgot the r in “exercise” (had to point it out)
u 4got the ‘4′ n ‘4got’ (had 2 point it out)
u forgot the yo in “you” (had to point it out)
I’m sorry, but when you use textspeak like “thers always sum1s free will 2 mess w/”, calling someone out on “exercie” is the metaphorical pot calling the metaphorical kettle black.
I was going to say something along the lines of irony, and grammar Nazi urges, but I couldn’t figure out how to say it nicely. How do people say things nicely?! Why can I not figure this out?!
Sometimes I think “nicely” is overrated.
As for the erroneous error correction, it’s something of an internet tradition that any post correcting another person’s post will, itself, have at least one error.
Here, I’ll make my posts in both “chatspeak” and “normal speech” when a post involves sonic.

…not now.
ai ain’t sure if ai should take that as an insult or complement ^_^”
Both! Neither! All of the behind!
Let’s see what’s behind door number Cucumber, shall we?
You are not random. You are not.
Keep telling yourself that. After about fifty times you’ll start believing it. Mayhaps.
Oh sorry. Thanks. My error. I’ll try to be careful next time.
Dude, if that happened, King would suffocate in his pectorals.
This could turn his life around even more! With his small body figure, he’ll change it into something grand. Making himself “BIG” in the world (actually I meant neighborhood) and surprise everyone. Well, I’m only being silly here and in truth, I like King as he is now.
i miss grape and peanut….
anyway why does a wolf need a shaving kit?
I would guess it’s for removing fur wedgies.
But having said that, I don’t think we don’t actually need to know.
I think I’m starting to see what’s going on in this universe. Babylon Gardens is the equivalent of Ft. Crawlins. (Deliberately fails to explain to see if anyone gets it.)
Room For One More?
Yup. Both are sites of social experiments involving the rights of nonhumans.

Google/Yahoo/Bing?

Almost all of them have fantasy or transformation themes set with largely funny animal casts.
lmao nice…..
poor king, he looks so cute in panel 3 though
…Cue Pete revealing the King is a human.
no not yet, this is getting 2 interesting for Pete to butt in
Alright FINE!
“You gotta say what you mean, boy!”
ai told yah so
What? King lives with the wolves now? huh….
Wow so even Miles has a tag!
Probably it’s something so that people can identify him as part of the program, so they don’t run away screaming.
I think that pants would be a better indicator, since that seems to be a major influence and I doubt ferals would wear pants, but that’s just me.
Except none of the outfits include pants.
True. All of these reports about wolves interacting with people are just riddled with lack of pants.
Just so long as they don’t have showers and accidentally drop them down the drain…
…wait, since they’re part of this here program, I’m assuming that they take showers. They DO have showers, right? Or would that wash away their scent…
I suspect it’s no worry unless they go heavily into perfumed shampoo. After all, wild wolves get rained on all the time. Fortunately, humans are mostly nose-blind anyway.
When you’re a wolf trying to be part of human civilization, you just have to have tags.
http://freefall.purrsia.com/ff1500/fc01498.htm
Thanks for reminding me I have to get back to reading that, Frank!
I forgot to add it back to my Bookmarks when I downgraded to XP from 7.
Wow….
Well, that helps him not worry bout food….
and… he lives with wolves…. uh, is that a good thing or a bad thing?
What about sasha she never got that walkie with king!!!
How do we know what day it is? It could likely be the day after, which I’m assuming is not Tuesday.
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/06/28/that-would-be-weird/
The party was in the 4th of July, which was a Sunday, so unless King slept for 24 hours it’s now Monday in the Housepets universe.
But seriously peanut didn’t win he was never in the comic. and bino didn’t get to torture king and grape never got to rip off his appendages. I doubt she’d do that now though.
Okay fine. Everybody INVOLVED won. Mostly.
Not kitsune he never got to eat at that pizza place!!!
IS IT TUESDAY YET!?
NOT WHERE I LIVE!
Maybe King can talk to Sasha about the Equal Chance Program?
Strip-wise it would be July 5 which in RL 2010 was a Monday. Besides while Sasha proposed a “walkie” on Tuesday we never saw King accept it, perhaps too drunk on Orange Soda and too busy flirting with any girl canines to notice. Thank goodness Tarot snapped him out of it.
Even if King doesn’t remember, I’m sure Sasha does…
King: Sasha? Hi! What’s up?
Sasha: We were going walkies today, remember?
King: …
Sasha: Hey, what happened to your…
King: *cries*
Is It Tuesday?
http://www.studentology.net/tuesday/
The alt text confuses me.
you and me both … and probably a few other guys too …
Rick, care to explain ?
The alt text and the title are both from the song “Once In A Lifetime” by The Talking Heads (not The Human League as I typed earlier)
I know this because a work on dA referenced the same part of this song either last year or earlier this year, so I looked it up then. I hardly know the difference between The Talking Heads and The Human League myself.
Kitsune’s starting to come through for him, it looks like. Pete must be upset now though.
Wolves and Ferrets don’t count as valid avatars. Maybe that means they’re manipulable at will?
Ninetails can run any of the NPCs even if they’re not legitimate PCs.
I did NOT even suspect this! Cool!
Yeah, not ONE SINGLE TIME in the comments of last issue did anybody say anything about the wolves. At all. (I think)
I’m glad that it worked out this way, though, because I liked the wolves and they have kinda been forgotten for a while.
Gold chain tag? Is this the pet equivalent of the leisure suit? XD
I guess that is the ID tag, as far as wild wolves will allow to wear instead of a collar.
That’s a literal dogtag.
With no supervision of a blue overgrown chicken to boss King around he stays at Mile’s place for the time being. For reasons unknown Daryl uses a shaving kit and with the company of Miles cubs running around the house causing mayhem?
I can live with that….
It’s a lot to take in…
…but wasn’t he supposed to be a parrot?
Chicken-parrot-lion, I think.
Best quwstion in panel 4 so far. XD But yeah women have their wierd stuff no one else can understand. So let’s see if this has any point in the story.
These wolves with their acting like humans thing. I just love it. X3
So King’ll be livin with the wolves now, cool can’t wait!
You’ve heard of seeing-eye dogs? Under his cap, Daryl has a thinking-brain human.
The razor’s for him, not Daryl.
Daryl doesn’t always wear a cap.
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/01/29/oh-there-we-go/
Unless that’s his other other brother Daryl.
http://instantrimshot.com/index.php?sound=rimshot&play=true
ahh! ai wasn’t ready for that it scared me
What else would you expect from a website called “instant rimshot”
… Wut? Sorry can’t make much sense of what ya just said, my bad, but still. XP
I’m with ya there, buddy
Ummmmm I think I just realised that he meant somethin like I misstook Daryl for a woman. Sorry. XP
But still can’t make heads or tails of the “thinking-brain human” part. :p
The question is… who will be Pete’s new avatar?
Max of course!
It is Tiger’s time to rise up.
and live out the true meaning of his creed?
I’d say Zack.
This. He seems impressionable enough to buy Pete’s load of crap.
Only dogs or cats are allowed as avatars. Zach’s a rabbit. Unless Pete turns Zach into a cat or dog, he’s not eligable.
OR, if Peanut and Grape become an item, Max’s jealousy could lead him straight into Pete’s offer for revenge.
Bino would be a natural.
Joey – “How much do you want to be a cat?”
Daisy – “Hi! I’m Pete! I mean Daisy!”
Mr. Bigglesworth – “Do you want to be an individual?”
Sasha – just to burn King.
I’d say Joey, he’s such an RPer he’d go along with it.
Joey: You mean it’s like D&D in real life?
Pete: Yes! You got it!
Joey: Can I be a split class? How about cleric/thief?
Pete: …
But I think that would be a new character, I mean, Pete transforming himslef into a new dog/cat.
Maybe a retriever, that way he could be a bird-dog.
http://instantrimshot.com/templates/iphone.php
Maybe is because English is not my mother languaje, but I don’t understand the joke XD
Can someone explain it to me? ^^
A gryphon is a bird-lion combination.
Retrievers are often trained for bird hunting, and so are referred to as bird dogs.
Ergo, Pete the bird-lion could choose a bird-dog as his canine avatar.
Ooh, retreivers. I always wondered what you called those birds
Wait, I meant it the other way around. That I didn’t know retrievers were the breed used in bird-hunting.
I did get what you meant.
Could be like this… http://www.freakingnews.com/pictures/56000/Bird-Dog-56195.jpg
Or like this… http://www.freakingnews.com/pictures/34000/Bird-Dog–34077.jpg
First pic: Holy censors! Who came up with that?
Second pic: Wait, Pete has relatives?
Second picture could be perfectly Pete as a dog XD
King knows too much about the game, he will be terminated.
Unless he had his memory wiped.
Nah, he’s got an incentive to play the game to the end and get his second reward.
a-HA! This explains EVERYTHING!
wait… no… it explains some things… but demands many explanations itself.
I feel compelled to join it, but I think it’ll be easier to let time tell.
Wait…Pete left…Then this means only one thing…King is gonna throw one hell of a house party
King doesn’t live there any more.
Meh, his house, not his house who cares! Let’s get drunk!
But think of this for a moment, do you want to explain to the pack of wolves you live with as to why their house looks like a tornado went through it?
They mean PETE’S house. Trashing it is actually the goal here, isn’t it?
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/04/13/any-year-with-no-fatalities-is-a-good-year/
I’d say, with last night’s hangover, that’s the last thing on his mind
And he’s already taken care of the hair of the dog.
Getting drunk and naked! WOOOO!
King looks soo happy on panel 3 after hearing that Pete is gone. Good to see that he got a “once in a lifetime” chance to go back to living sort of like a human with the wolves.
What’s funnier, that Daryl kept a shaving kit, or that Miles automatically assumed it was Daryl’s?
the first.
After all, there are only 2 grown males in the household, thus the kit must be Daryl’s if Miles doesn’t own one.
Well, they’ve all got fur, so it could have been anyones – but Miles may know that the cubs haven’t had a chance to acquire one, be fairly sure that Lucretia doesn’t have one, and quite sure that he doesn’t. Ergo, Daryl.
Miles is cute
That’s a shame. Not to sound crazy but I rather enjoyed Pete as the owner. Having King getting knocked down by Pete gave me a cathartic impression about King’s predicament.
Having said that it’s nice see King’s new leash on life. (Pun intended.) I find it satisfying to have a miserable character like King to finally get rewarded for once.
I’m just wondering if living with wolves will be the right move for King. I mean look how short he is compared to Miles!!! Just when you thought Fox was tall now you got roommates that tower even Fox! XD
Well, it does reduce or eliminate one source of comedy and drama. What it adds remains to be seen.
It is always nice to see a little karma come around though.
Well, let’s see… the program seems to involve having a job, right?
The wolves are working as security for the Milton Ferrets.
What’s King’s job going to be?
His job will be fixing things most likely. Why call the cable guy when you can just call the all in one dog!
He’ll be like the jack of all trades for animals xD
…….
That, or the ferrets will pick his job and it will be something like… Well, something silly o.O This IS Rick we talking about! xD
My money’s on K-9 Cop just for the ultimate irony of ironies.
INVENT TELEVISION!
“It took me months, Miles, but I’ve finally done it! See? These wires go to the cathode-ray tube which projects the image onto this side, and these circuits here transfer the image!”
“But television has already been invented”
“What? It’s not a television! It’s a device to transmit and receive a sequence of images in conjunction with… drat; it is a television!”
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/10/09/the-voodoo-they-do/
hence my quote to Miles’ “Television has already been invented”
I only noticed now that king has a chess figure on his collar o.O
hah yeah, never saw the King chess piece before either xP
Well, you know, “King” the dog ought to have a collar that identifies him, right?
Hate to be a jerk, but–
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/12/04/try-to-understand/
–really? They kinda pointed it out there. You just forget? I mean…nobody’s more clueless than I am…^_^;; I’m sure you just completely forgot. It’s white and can be hard to see or make out at times, after all…
must’ve overlooked that *scratches head* Now that I go through the past comics I see that it always has been there… maybe I’m a bad observer…
How did you measure your cluelessness to affirm that?
This is going to be interesting.
Nice shout out to a great Talking Heads song.
“a [...] great song”?
You mean they had more than one?
Psycho Killer is another song by them, and it’s fairly fantastic.
How about Burning Down The House?
Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down.
Once in a lifetime, water flowing underground.
Why did Rick have to use the Newhart pun when introducing Daryl? That’s all I can think of whenever he’s mentioned.
“Hi, I’m Larry. This is my brother Darryl. And this is my other brother Darryl.”
Both Miles’ brothers chose the name Daryl?
You didn’t get the joke.
I got the joke.
The question is, how far is Rick going to take it.
We don’t actually know how many Daryls there are in the pack.
And the wolves DO get to choose their names.
Hopefully, it won’t end with the same problem as the Bigglesworth.
I’d wager just the one. Odd he introduced him as “my other brother” but that was likely just a Newhart reference. (Who knows maybe Miles is a fan of that show…although Rick likely just wrote that it because it’s funny)
Next strip – King vs raw meat?
“Not bad, especially with the heightened sences. Not that it means anything, I liked offal from before.”
Yay! King has a nice new home to be a part of, and not mean ol Pete’s. Also, how is Miles going to explain the gold kitsune statue in King’s room?
“We brought all your stuff from your old owner’s house, that’s OK, right?”
Agreed.
King could be a veritable fountain of knowledge for the wolves:
King: … so that’s why you should cook the meat.
Miles: Wow, I had no idea.
Lucretia: How do you know so much about humans anyway?
King: I used to b… belong to a doctor. *sweatdrop*
Well the fun thing about wolves is that raw meat doesn’t affect them that way. Never has, and probably never will.
Yeh, I don’t exactly see wolves sitting by a campfire at night, smoking their catch, hoping no humans see ‘em.
That reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies “smoking crawdads” episode with the hippies…
Deus ex much, Rick?
Passed out in the woods?
Running on autopilot with a fraction of Dragon’s or Ninetails’ attention?
Was King still on the plane when the wolves took him home, though? We don’t know… well, just about anything about the whole situation, really.
It’s a little early to be calling “deus ex machina”, I think, without a lot more info regarding the party->house transition than we have at present. Especially since getting to the house from the party hardly qualifies as an “inextricable problem” that’s part and parcel of the definition of DEM, nor are the wolves something Rick just now threw in with no previous setup for their presence.
I could easily see Miles, or Daryl, or even one of the cubs casually picking him up and tossing him over his shoulder like a roll of carpet.
lol yeah, that would be funny
I’m voting implanted memories on this one.
perhaps time is frozen while they’re in the astral plane.
thus for all the other pets… king just went a bit drunk, got lost in the forest..
And more Cowbell
He changed positions in the 3 panels.
When Ur buff U tend to ripple. :#3
Muscles aren’t, it seems, one of Rick’s stronger points, as far as drawing goes.
Mind you, this is from someone who’s screwed up stick figures, before.
Is King crying in panel 3?
Because he’s so happy he’s not living with that a–jerk Pete anymore. (Almost forgot this is PG ^^; )
King living with the wolves? Would this fall under “… And the Fandom Rejoiced”? Because I’m cetainly enjoying this new turn of events.
“… and then winter came, where they were forced to eat Sir Robin’s minstrels… and there was much rejoicing; and then came spring, then summer; and fall was completely skipped and went right on to winter…”
Why am I afraid to know what secret that is? D:
Maybe its best if we don know…
*don’t
I NEED TO KNOW!!!
Welp, looks like we’ve found King’s first reward!! ^_^
But living with the wolves…um…yeah, this is just gonna pop open a whole new can of worms. XD; (Hey, maybe King can give them pointers…)
Gotta be better than living with Pete…
Am I the only one who thinks King looks more… mature in this strip? Like he finally is starting to feel like he’s in control of his own life?
This no-Pete-until-he-finds-an-avatar will really help build King’s self-esteem, as well as friendships with the other animals. Who knows, maybe King will start coming out of his shell?
King — Hey, Fox, did I ever tell you that I am actually the human from PETA that tried to kidnap you a while back?
Fox — No, you didn’– Wait. WHAT!?
Good point.
If the “Kings Men” chapter is keeping them in-character (which it is), then it may be a while before King starts 2 open up 2 anybody.
That story would be over by this point, that was a little fun regarding King’s first few weeks as a dog and first inaction with other canines.
Well, I didn’t mean like that. *rolls eyes*
want to see him come out of his shell? just give him another can of soda…
Nice twist.
I wonder how King’s life will be with the Wolves. >:3
“*sniff, sniff* Alright boys, grab him!”
This is totally what I was thinking xD Or *sniff sniff* “Woot, a new brother! …. But why are you colored so funny” Cause King is so small xD
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/10/21/puppy-power/
(Never mind the obvious physical issues, I don’t think Joel knew how to fight as a human, let alone when having claws and fangs [such as they are, on corgis
] as a dog.)
A better reply from Daryl;
“Idk my bff Great Kitsune?”
or “Idk, my gf Great Kitsune?”
waaiiiiiit, in panel 4 Daryl says he has to keep his secrets but when he says “secrets” that could mean a lot like he hates his fur and shaves some off or ……….. i just realized what he coulda meant by that. XD
remember that body builders shave to look better
EEEE NATANI!! *Man-GLOMP*
And read my post about Dale Gribble up towards the top.
WOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NATANI!!!!!!!!!!! XD
ya like Natani from 2kinds? XD
WOOO!! ZEN & NATANI!!!!!!! XD
Umm… wooo? Yeah, Zen. He’s… actually kinda cool.
Hey, he can link to his sister’s mind and bother her whenever he wants. That’s pretty cool XD
i like your “Man-Glomp” spirit. and do you read 2kinds as well?
how many people read that web-comic??????????????
Do I want to know?
No, probably not. But my theory is that wolves grow out there fur at different times of the year right? Mainly during winter where it’s cold. But this wolves are spose to be more human like, so maybe they trim some of their fur during the winter? That or thought “Humans have it, so we must too!”
You don’t use a safety razor to trim your fur.
Oh well, for another random hypothesis… Daryl has it to practice shaving decorative patterns into fur, since he aims to become the worlds first feral wolf hairdresser. That’s also why he wore a hat even in the wilds.
Second
O.o it’s daryl’s shaving kid?
WHAT THE –!
And you may tell yourself
This is not my beautiful wife!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
… Come on. NOBODY else caught the song lyric in the title?
Um, yeah. Like, four other people.
This is why you read through ALL the comments, or use Ctrl+F to look for the lyrics and/or artist.
For example, try searching for “Talking Heads” with Ctrl+F.
I’ve never heard the song before
Well, neither have I. XD
But now I have Frostwire opened, searching for it…
And I just listened to it last night. At first, I was like, “What the heck is this?” but then I got used to the style, and it was pretty good…
And I find it kind of cool that the song “Burning Down the House” by The Used is actually a [better/different] version of the song by Talking Heads.
I caught it almost instantly. I love that song!
Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down
Letting the days go by/water flowing underground
Into the blue again/after the money’s gone
Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground.
And if those aren’t the lyrics, please tell me. I can’t understand the chorus that well.
And I shouldn’t have posted the chorus right behind someone…but I wasn’t paying attention…
if king hurt himself with a shavor imagine what he could do with a tooth-pick considering their sharp!
he didn’t hurt himself, he just shaved a patch of fur from his cheek.
Well, I’m imagining the asterisk in the last comic was quickly followed by screaming. If that was out of shock or pain, I can’t tell. It’s likely he was starting to press too hard, and that’s what woke him up (fully).
You know that feeling when you lean too far back on a chair and you have to throw yourself forward before you fall over backwards?
Yeah. Been there, done that.
Who said this was the resolution? It could keep going on and on…
And we ON and ON and ON and ON!
Sorry, and we *go* etc.
Oh, I’m sure we got it.
jeesus, king is tiny compared to Miles.
also so-happy king is so cute! he was gonna cry until he remembered the shaving thing XD
The wolves are not quite as tall as a human, and King is one of the smallest dogs.
I wonder if Rick could add a size reference to the cast page.
They’re probably making it on the forum as we speak (if they aren’t, you can bet I’m going to make it)
In size order from Spo to Pete?
Dragon is way bigger than Pete. I think GK is too, but still smaller than dragon.
Pete and the Dragon have variable sizes; they don’t count
So, Rick, when you do the printed collection, how are you going to present the alt text?
Just under the title, I would think, slightly smaller.
Many of the comic translators in the the forums do something similar to that (they put it under the comic, in the blank space). I wouldn’t be surprised if Rick also did the alt-text this way when he makes the book.
Underneath each comic, as a caption of sorts? Or maybe what VKB said, that seems like a better idea…
I love how he goes from teary and touched in the third, to logically skeptical in the fourth.
Hehe, when I look at Miles’ face in that last panel just makes me randomly think “HEY ABBOTT!
I just remembered that Tails’s real name is Miles.
*throws confetti* You win.
i wonder if this is the only webcomic Rick has done.
i think he’s doin another1, forget wut it’s called tho ^_^;;
But again, that’s only as far as I know
*drawings. Plural. Sorry
Only makes you wonder what Deryll could be hiding
Probably something irrelevant that reader will never find out about.
Or something important the Rick will not mention again for a year or two before suddenly launching a wolf-centric arc that reveals it as something important long after the readers have forgotten. Knowing from what I’ve seen of Housepets it could go either way.
So, it’s either a noodle implement, or a checkhov gun
Noodle incident?
Noodle implements:
“Bring a bucket of paint, three yards of string, and a blender, and meet me in the treehouse. Let’s go, skippy!”
–Kenan & Kel
Noodle incident:
My greatest failure was this incident with popcorn when I was little, but I’d rather not talk about it.
–Dana Simpson
I hope it’s an inner newfound love of puppies! Maybe King will have playmates to keep him company. Maybe the pups will drag him off and dig up suppressed memories about his pets. The possibilities are endless, but he IS BOUND to meet the pups… can you imagine?
Oh yes, as I pointed out up there. They will pounce him and call him brother! Then wonder why he is colored so funny, in a not to wolf like way
King looks really happy and at home in the third panel then it goes right to the fourth panel and he goes back to his normal self.
Hey, a TwoKinds avv!
uh yeah you probably read 2kinds, whats your fav character? XD
(sorry Rick if this affends you, cause im talking about a different web-comic other than yours)!
Hmm…I’m gonna have to go with Natani.
Oh, I like this. I daresay things are looking up for King.
Why do you have a shaving kit?
Somebody is dating a Poodle
yay !!!! this is starting to get even more interesting
King is finally free from Pete!!!!!
Seriously, WHY does Daryl need a shaving kit!?
your avv goes well with the comic before this one.
lol yeah, I guess it does.
why DOES a wolf need a shaving kit anyway?
All the better to confuse you with, dear
Ya! The wolves are back!
Dang, Miles is buff. Makes me want to start going to a gym.
Will he still go by “King,” or will he switch to “Joel?” Time will tell!
I’m thinking going back to using the name “Joel” will require “performing additional magic” on him. Going back to the entity legally registered under the name “Joel” definitely requires performing additional magic on him
Pete was forbidden from doing anything MORE to King so the compulsive magic on King’s name is still there too.
Hmm, King/Joel with ferals.
Considering his pets turned their backs on him when they turned feral, I wonder how he’ll feel around all this :O
Miles was born wild. king/joel pets was first tame then went feral.
