Haha, the “eating the pillow joke”
It’s like the strip where Garfield dreams he’s sleeping on a huge lazagna, only the other way around!
The huge lasagna is sleeping on him? The lasagna is dreaming about him?
Oh, you’d have to have read it to get it.
Garfield falls asleep, and dreams he is in “the land of giant food”, appearing within a lasagna. He turns around and eats the layers of lasagna on top of him, and licks his fingers clean.
The following morning, he wakes up thinking “What a nice dream. Wait, where’s my blanket?”

Easy enough; the conveyor doesn’t shut down at quite the same time as the stamper, and one sheet goes through without being seen. Quality control only checks samples from each batch, it doesn’t watch them all.
How it got neatly wrapped is more awkward to explain; the machine would be set up for boxes, not slabs of marshmellow.
That presumes that they are die-cut of course, but that’s plausible enough.
Stepping aside from my tendency to spin explanation-scanaries for everything, it works just as well as the pumpkin slices bending. Rule of Funny.

It’s just like promoting your product out in the street, people will walk right by without paying any sort of attention, or you may get lucky and have the one or two customers who fall for your trap >:3
There’s only one problem here… I’m almost certain Peeps aren’t cut out of sheets. That would mean excess marshmallow, for one thing.
When it comes to the chick shape, you can tell just by looking at them that they’re poured like chocolate drops. The bunny and other shapes are probably poured into molds, because they certainly don’t have sharp corners like it would have if they were cut.

What I mean is: if Housepets animals can have opposable thumbs, they can have marshmallows punched out of sheets too.
My suspension of disbelief regarding the way the characters are drawn and behave is quite alright, thank you. It’s pointless to question that. If the script leaves me doubtful, then its another matter entirely.
To use hyperbole, if a character squeezed lemonade from a rock and no one questioned it, I wouldn’t give the fact that the act is performed by a talking, bipedal animal with opposable thumbs a second thought- rather, I would wonder why it is that the strip delved into surrealism with the use of rock lemonade.
I’m quite used to talking, bipedal animals with opposable thumbs simply because I watch a lot of cartoons.
What you intend to achieve when you attempt to point out errors in my thinking is beyond my comprehension.
I don’t think marshmallows punched out of sheets is quite the same level of surrealism as squeezing lemonade out of a rock, particularly when there’s plenty of candies that ARE made that way. Heck, any good trekkie could retcon a backstory that explained how housepets with thumbs led to a slight difference in easter candy manufacturing.
