Max: “Now I will defeat them all with the power of sheer manliness and rippling pecs” *jumps down from the wall*
Grape: “Oh come on! how are you going to explain that landing?”
*wagon full of hay appears below Max*
Grape: *Facepaw*
Max: “Do not doubt the power of Convenience!”
True, you can’t beat the “Epic Meteor Landing” when it comes to an awesome entrance. Although the “Graceful Ninja Landing” is equally epic if you add swirling rose petals or something similar. if you do both at the same time, it can be a “His and Hers” ordeal. :3
Seems like Grape and Tarot are almost on the same page as far as pointing out mistakes goes, but Tarot is such a killjoy!
I’m also wondering if both Max and Grape’s side of the story is as different as Spot/Peanut’s side? will they have to fight? i’m guessing they would be in the same boat as Spot and have the same fighting abilities as well.
wait, wasn’t Tarot Jeijan, as well as that lioness character (forgot the name). Weird, but i guess since peanut can turn day to night in an instant, she can be in two places at once! Also the fact that it is cartoon ads to that power I guess.
Tarot is “guiding a little bit of everyone”. That means she’s moving (puppeteering?) the army, the guard from a few strips back, keeping track of all the environment effect, but at the same time is playing Jeijan and Saso (apparently alternating between the two)
Actually, I think Tarot is playing Saso and Jeijan at the same time.
It would help fill in the plotholes that are created when we change scenes, as it would mean Tarot had been helping along both Max and Grape *ahem-excuse me* Lord Parnok and Princess Illaya and Spot (superdog) AKA Peanut.
Well, maybe. I’m basing myself on the fact that she had to fly away when Spot went to the cellar where Saso was. Your logic is not too farfeched, though.
You know that sound that plays when a Looney Tunes cartoon irises out? That’s basically what happened in my head when the sun fell and the moon shown. XD
Those are all played at the beginning, Argent (with the exception of the “powerplant music” which I can’t recall right now); “Iris out” refers the closing circle at the end. I think he means the song that goes something like G♯, G♯, G♯, A♯, C (The A being higher than the G, and being sustained twice as long). The most memorable performance (or at least, memorable to me) was done by Bugs Bunny on a fiddle at the end of Hillybilly Hare.
A similar song was used in Duck Amuck during the zoom-in from the middle of the sea, to Daffy’s eyes; I think that’s the one he actually meant to refer to
I’m pretty sure the classic Looney Tunes ending theme was also taken from The Merry Go Round Broke Down. I’ve been listening to the official Warner track and the original jazz version and it sure sounds to me like it’s in there.
Well it may be just a lil bug that “words” that are in one pice don get cut up and it’s a bit funny that you can’t see the end of it witch is the whole point of it. X3
Try double click on it and ctrl+v on a notepad and read it.
The castle may not be vulnerable to fire, but what about the furniture, decorations, and support beams inside? Lob enough incendiaries into the castle, and that the castle walls won’t burn isn’t going to be that much of a concern. Stone doesn’t burn under normal conditions, but it does serve as oven insulation quite nicely, so anyone inside will get roasted even if not even a lick of flame touches them.
Of course, the key words are “enough incendiaries”. Not something I’d expect to be kept readily at hand by your average African(ish) war tribe. (Of course, Africa isn’t well known for European-style stone castles, either. )
this time im making an actual comment… an army of bowmen really dont need to see their target…just point in the air of the direction of the general target… it then rains down arrows and… well you do the math if like 100 bowmen are shooting like 1 arrow every 2 seconds and they have a total of 2500 arrows and it takes the arrows around 5 seconds to reach the ground and is spread over an area of 2000 sq ft, how long would it take and what are the chances theyd hit someone? .-. also consider that 15 of the bowmen suck and miss 20% of the time, while 10 could probably shoot 2 at a time, really someone smart answer that >_>
Took me an instant to realize Max had simply gotten the lighting to change (I thought they had waited until nighfall) but once you get it, it’s hilarious!
Tarot would need to make sure there was lava-proof insulation on that water gun, otherwise Max would be shooting hardened magma.
Which would still hurt.
lol X3
Typical, nya! Max makes the same changes in teh story az Ah would, minya! “^w^
Reminds meh what me and ma beshtesh friend used to do… Mao… Ah miss those times of fantasising wif ‘er… /._.\
Yes she is. She create the game and doesn’t like to be told her obvious mistake. To me, she looks a lot like a dungeon master of a tabletop rpg. She moves everyone and plays all the major npc. Afterall, play-believe is a lot like a basic rpg.
Not really related, but is it possible Tarot (Jeijan) can be knocked out by her puppets? I doubt it, because she’d probably make sure none of them got in harm’s way, but it’d be interesting to see the chaos that would ensue.
Or even if Tarot just lost control of the projections. Like if Pete took over or something.
Wait, I thought this was pretend? When Max says, “the studio lighting is a nice touch,” does that mean that this is all a huge Hollywood-style set? I guess being an actor is a bit like pretend for adults, as you’re pretending something is there that is not, or will be once the SFX are put in.
Grape, there’s a term called “Don’t open your big mouth”, ever heard of it? Your entire faith is bassicly controlled by a dog who can tlak with spirits an bend reality like a twig, I’d be careful with words
I think he means Grape’s faith in the world/reality, which is, at the moment, a constructed alternate controlled by tarot which she questions a bit to much. Thus, she questions her faith. QED
Sorry, the rain here must have soaked my head so much that some water has gotten in my brain
Dousnt matter if showers bring flowers if a serial killer slowly kills kids with it, its a game, anyone know which game…? it has a twist at the end… has some cool fighting scenes .-.
I love where this is going!!
Oh yes… hehe, so much fun with this, it’ll be sad, say when the parent’s (owners cough cough) comes home.
“I counter your logic with my illogic!”
I reject your logic and substitute with my own.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.
I delete your reality and destroy all others. ^^
But your reality is nothing more than a dream; this is the real world.
Don’t worry about the vase.
What’s a spoon?
Green. -CRASH-
I restore all realities and and place you in everyone in thier own… all calm.
Do not be fooled. It is merely the calm before the storm.

I hate the comment moderation. I really do.
Greaaat. The enemy had a DISADVANTAGE had Tarot “FIXED” it. -.-
This has “There I Fixed It” written all over it.
Grape: “Oh come on! how are you going to explain that landing?”
Max: “Erm… I’m a cat. Didn’t you know we *always* land like this?”
That landing will have the subtlety of a meteorite. Perhaps if Grape attempted to land like that, it might not make a sound.
Perhaps.
True, you can’t beat the “Epic Meteor Landing” when it comes to an awesome entrance. Although the “Graceful Ninja Landing” is equally epic if you add swirling rose petals or something similar. if you do both at the same time, it can be a “His and Hers” ordeal. :3
I like grape’s expression in the last frame.
GO LAUGHING FACE!
Seems like Grape and Tarot are almost on the same page as far as pointing out mistakes goes, but Tarot is such a killjoy!

Grape, you make a great straight woman in what ever duo you are apart of!
And every advancing enemy army needs a theme song!

What about battle music? Metal always makings good battle music:

(My friend made a flash with two armies battling and used this song)
I LOVE this!

ROCK ON.

Wait, ignore my last comment i wasn’t paying attention, Tarot was the hyena not the lioness, but still…

Well, maybe. I’m basing myself on the fact that she had to fly away when Spot went to the cellar where Saso was. Your logic is not too farfeched, though.
I suspect Tarot is probably concentrating on one persona at a time, at the very least.
You know that sound that plays when a Looney Tunes cartoon irises out? That’s basically what happened in my head when the sun fell and the moon shown. XD
Merry Go Round Broke Down, the Anvil Chorus, or the “Power Plant” music I forget the name of that featured in the episode with the hummingbird?
Those are all played at the beginning, Argent (with the exception of the “powerplant music” which I can’t recall right now); “Iris out” refers the closing circle at the end. Heheh, cute. That’s so in the spirit of kids pretending. X3
BTW, first panel, ‘lauging’ face.
DON’T WORRY! SPOT (Superdog) WILL SAVE US!!
andthensweepthelovelyprincessoffherfeetafterheroicallyseducingherwithhisfeatsofstrengthandtotatllynotmakinganexcusetoflirtwithgrape…what?
Heh yeah in our greams right? It’s never THAT simple. X3
Although it would make a nice twist. XD

So many authors forget crap like this, it’s frustrating. :3
Great!
Now who KNOWS what kind of weapons the Laughing Face will use to bring on the siege!!
“Fire arrows!”
“Against a rock castle with no flammable furniture, Max?”
“Uh, ok, catapults!”
*facepaw* “We are so screwed”
The castle may not be vulnerable to fire, but what about the furniture, decorations, and support beams inside? Lob enough incendiaries into the castle, and that the castle walls won’t burn isn’t going to be that much of a concern. This is Tarot we’re talking about here, need I remind you. She can make anything happen.
Everyone knows you take out a castle with huge glass balls filled with chlorine gas.
@Furry321: I answered your question from yesterday
@Argent: Is this a reference to The Rock? (The one with Sean Connery, not the other one)
Leo Frankowski’s “The Crosstime Engineer”. A novel that’s just chocablock full of classic fanfic wish fulfillment action, by the way.
@Furry321 I say she can make anything seem to happen. ; )
this time im making an actual comment… an army of bowmen really dont need to see their target…just point in the air of the direction of the general target… it then rains down arrows and… well you do the math if like 100 bowmen are shooting like 1 arrow every 2 seconds and they have a total of 2500 arrows and it takes the arrows around 5 seconds to reach the ground and is spread over an area of 2000 sq ft, how long would it take and what are the chances theyd hit someone? .-. also consider that 15 of the bowmen suck and miss 20% of the time, while 10 could probably shoot 2 at a time, really someone smart answer that >_>
Yay, finnaly someone else who knows ’bout ancient history …..and he’s a genius at MATH
I only see 4 bowmen. ; )
Also, after what just happened, I won’t be surprised if the weapon changes as well as the time of the day.
I don’t think any army got 30 shots per minute from the longbow, 8-12 was more typical.
Again a simple but funny joke, great job. :3
Now that’s a quick fix !
Took me an instant to realize Max had simply gotten the lighting to change (I thought they had waited until nighfall) but once you get it, it’s hilarious!
This is the kind of things that would happen to me when I played as a kid. Remember when I told you about the amazing “lava-proof shield”?
http://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/03/05/replacement-excuse/#comment-20507
wait, lava-proof shield?
won’t work against a GIANT LAVA BLOB!!!
NOMNOMNOMNOMNOM!!
“What, you expected me to make a shield that was proof against dragon-fire AND dragon claws?”
well at least good enough against the “Rozan Shōryūha!”
At least Grape didn’t go all Christian Bale on the lighting person.
See this is what makes RPGs interesting.
Thanks to that lighting change it made everything a whole lot better!!! ^ ^
…..
buff max-lion FTW! Go kick spot and his caped ass!
well your nice!!!
you gotta love sarcasm!!
BLASPHEMER!!!!
The best things in life are blasphemy.
you are so right
Frick!
I wonder if max realizes that if the lighting wasn’t changed then they could’ve won the “war”!
what if out of nowhere max grabs a giant lava-watergun and shoots the army down!!
Tarot would need to make sure there was lava-proof insulation on that water gun, otherwise Max would be shooting hardened magma.
Which would still hurt.
Studio lighting – hilarious
lol
The hyenas are very cool looking. And I love the final frame.
If Grape and Max ever get…hitched… Max is going to have some serious trouble getting Grape to believe his excuses
i don’t think max would even try using excuses!!!
lol X3
Typical, nya! Max makes the same changes in teh story az Ah would, minya! “^w^
Reminds meh what me and ma beshtesh friend used to do… Mao… Ah miss those times of fantasising wif ‘er… /._.\
maybe they’re called ‘laughing face’ cuz their faces are all scarred a-la-Joker under those masks.
i’m sure they are called Laughing Faces because they are Hyenas. >.>
Laughing Faces + Hyenas = lots of laughing!
Y so srs, nya? >:3
He ment it az a phunny! X3
where are ninjas when you need them?!?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzzjgBAaWZw theres your ninja, its also a cat!
wait did you want a ninja that could kill with cuteness or one that could literally cut you in 2? cuz if its cut you in 2 here… http://gamesnet.vo.llnwd.net/o1/gamestar/objects/129121_main.jpg
or do you want me to get Ryu Hayabusa?
I’d just recreate helms deep ;P
I love this arc! Though I hope we don’t learn TOO much about this series. Things are more awesome if we can think of our own ways they are awesome
“What about the Noodle incident?”
“Nobody can proove I did that!”
That was the best reference in comments up to date.
Totally agree!
Is Tarot/Jeijan sticking her tongue out in panel 4?
Yes she is. She create the game and doesn’t like to be told her obvious mistake. To me, she looks a lot like a dungeon master of a tabletop rpg. She moves everyone and plays all the major npc. Afterall, play-believe is a lot like a basic rpg.
Haha, yup. xD I zoomed in to check.
Good eye! Even zoomed in I could barely see it!
Ooh, ooh!!!
*Jumps up and down*
Is it time for a L.O.T.R. -themed battle sequence?!?
I want powers like that o-o
Studio lighting fixes everything!
This is a dream made into reality, how do we know if reality is no just the dream?
Not really related, but is it possible Tarot (Jeijan) can be knocked out by her puppets? I doubt it, because she’d probably make sure none of them got in harm’s way, but it’d be interesting to see the chaos that would ensue.

Wheels within wheels.
are connected to the axle
Actually the wheels within a wheel just float there in lubricant, rubbing against the wheel that contains them
What? They actually exist!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bearing (mechanical)
If they’re rubbing they’re a journal bearing, not a roller bearing.
Yes, I had a feeling that all-too-light description would get me into trouble.
Grape, there’s a term called “Don’t open your big mouth”, ever heard of it? Your entire faith is bassicly controlled by a dog who can tlak with spirits an bend reality like a twig, I’d be careful with words
Faith? What faith?
Sorry, the rain here must have soaked my head so much that some water has gotten in my brain; I don’t quite seem to understand you.
you mean Grape’s belief of what Pridelands should be?
I think he means Grape’s faith in the world/reality, which is, at the moment, a constructed alternate controlled by tarot which she questions a bit to much. Thus, she questions her faith. QED
April showers bring May flowers
well least we all know what Pridelands is
I likes it! Love comic too
