Since November 25th. Scratch that, we didn’t actually “see” them; it’s too dark. November 23rd then. Not counting the New Years and Valentine’s day specials, we can find out by counting the number of weeks, times 3, plus 1 (November 23rd was a Monday)
It’s been 12 weeks, so 37 strips.
My bad. It’s actually been 10 weeks (remember the “Peanuuuuut!” strip on December 7th?) So 31 strips. Hey, that doesn’t seem so long! It must be only a month in comic time.
Jim Davis helped pioneer the snarky comic protagonist before most of us could read or were even alive. He may have since lost steam and started writing out-of-date and rehashed humor, but back in the day he was quite important to the medium.
The same folks that said regular housepets shouldn’t regularly walk around on their hind legs, and be able to talk? And let’s not even get into the whole “opposable thumbs” thing…
Seems to me Peanut is still stuck wondering where the middle road is between feedback and developing. However, he seems to want to be credited during the development stage. Of course, i’m not buying it =3
If i were to take a guess, i would say he’s actually looking for a special kind of reviewer or audience in his case to get feedback from.
can you say, “possible opportunity for introduction of new character to act as peanut’s biggest fan/ editor, or for a current character to fill the roll”?
if so, try “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious pterazoophobic noephiles”
(my comment box is a sea of red squiggly lines)
In the first panel misread Peanut’s comments for saying, “Okay so, who is writing these stories”. For a moment Rick I thought they were on to you! They must NEVER know…
So, what is that? If comic characters doing impossible things is breaking the fourth wall, is that tearing it down? Or have we possibly found a new dimension – the fifth wall!?
you know that just for that I want to draw a comic that entails actions that readers comment, in exactly that way… of course, the usual taboo ground wold be taboo, but it would at the very least get the readers involved XD.
I’d suggest just writing reviews of your work, or introductions to it, but Stanislaw Lem already did those (A Perfect Vacuum and Imaginary Magnitude) and you don’t want to be derivative.
I’m still boggling over the feud between Lem and Philip K. Dick. Boggle. Boggle boggle.
It tends to be inevitable when you’re drawing: changing the look over time. Look at the first Tom and Jerry cartoons, where Tom (Jasper) was a fuzzy kitten and Jerry (Jinx) was a wide-eyed extreemly cute little mouse. Over time, with the excuse of streamlining the animation, they started seeming older. Tom became taller and slimmer and Jerry, while remaining cute, became also capable of extreemely malicious expressions, once some eyelashes and such were dropped from the drawing.
My first theory is that everything around you in the real world ages, so if you have something you took as reference, even subconsciously, once you look at it again, you unwittingly adapt your drawing.
My second theory is basically how the greek letters evolved into the latin alphabet: when you do the same symbol over and over again and in a rush, you start shortening certain lines, rounding out others, and adding edges where there weren’t edges before, with the purpose of conveying the symbol understandably, and still end your rush.

Fifth is the ordinal for “five”. Fourth is the ordinal for “four”. The correct ordinal for “one” is a forbidden word, so I’ve used “oneth” in its place
well, they kinda have. animals age quicker than humans (you know, seven dog years to one year), and we haven’t seen them in a while. or it could be that you just forgot what they look like, because i don’t see it
this is kind of funny. half of the audience is cheering for the return of Peanut and Grape, and the other half is saying “we need more King/Fido and Spo/Wolves/Tarot/Slow-Motion Pillow Fights/etc…”
… although it would be awesome to see everyone in the comic having a slow-motion pillow fight…
Hate to join the crowd but… Yay! Peanut and Grape r back!

SIGH.
There are so many things that could be said about this,
But I think it can be agreed that all writers wished there’re audience ALREADY KNEW what they were talking about AHEAD OF TIME…so that there would be no confusion when they explained it on paper (or screen?).
Not sure how to say this, but the sentence itself is an example of that. -__-
ok. so, everyone is like “pets don’t use spoons”, and i knew i saw them eating with with their hand at least once. so i went from the very beging until i found it. low and behold:
but then again, that’s King
also on my search i found this (on accident):
go there and on the last panel, cover up everything below peanut’s colar
I know Peanut, put your comic on the internet! Then you can get as much commentary as you could possibly want on it.
Of course, if you put up panels involving more obscure characters you may get people grumbling about missing the ‘main’ characters and complaining about a dull plot line, and suggesting you get back to crazy hi-jinks involving Spot and his non-cat girlfriend or Spot’s corgi sidekick instead of developing other characters or trying different plots…
I can see it now. “Pets performing crimes and other evil deeds? It’s just as I’ve been saying all along: deep down, you’re all nothing but animals… no offense”
you know, if someone knew what you were thinking before you did anything with it, they could steal it and call it their own, right?, and if everyone you wanted to present the idea to already knew what the idea was they’d be bored of it, because it’s too expected.

YeshThey are back!!
I guess here’s where I run my algorithm from yesterday and say “Yay! Grape!”
How many strips/panels now has it been since we last seen these two together?
Since November 25th. Scratch that, we didn’t actually “see” them; it’s too dark. November 23rd then. Not counting the New Years and Valentine’s day specials, we can find out by counting the number of weeks, times 3, plus 1 (November 23rd was a Monday)
It’s been 12 weeks, so 37 strips.
Wow! The last two arcs have been looong!
But they were worth it.
Wow! That’s to many for me. They should go on another crazy adventure with pie and other cool stuff. Totally awesome that their back though.
My bad. It’s actually been 10 weeks (remember the “Peanuuuuut!” strip on December 7th?) So 31 strips. Hey, that doesn’t seem so long! It must be only a month in comic time.
Eh, what’re you talking about? We saw “Peanut Butter and Grape Jelly Sandwich” but a few strips ago!
NICE : D !
This is, as I understand it, how most authors feel.
This deserves a huge resounding… Yes
This sounds awfully familiar. Jim Davis?
In his case, I’m not sure there’s much of an idea beforehand.
Hey… Jim Davis is a comic genius. Nobody realized it until http://garfieldminusgarfield.net/
Jim Davis helped pioneer the snarky comic protagonist before most of us could read or were even alive. He may have since lost steam and started writing out-of-date and rehashed humor, but back in the day he was quite important to the medium.
…So, are they eating cereal or dry pet food?
I’m afraid that Peanut’s plan, although it sounds fantastic, would get old after a while.
It would be fun for a while, though!
I was once stuck in a rut like this..
Hey! pets don’t use utensils!
Says who?
God, mother nature, Science, Charles Darwin…
The same folks that said regular housepets shouldn’t regularly walk around on their hind legs, and be able to talk? And let’s not even get into the whole “opposable thumbs” thing…
Plus it looks like they’re eating ceral. xD
I know it’s pet kibble, but the whole utensil thing makes it look like it.
This is a comic.
No, this is Sparta…
Let’s not start that!!
monkeys.
Science would like to disagree with you.
Yeah, but I can’t right now.
Probably Pete (see December 9, 2009)
Huh. I just realized from your comment that they’re eating their pet food from bowls with a spoon.
Oh come on, Peanut. Only you can capture the brilliance of your own story. Pencil to paper isn’t suppose to include a middle man.
Unless that middle-man is the pencil’s lead. You should always follow the lead’s lead.
Seems to me Peanut is still stuck wondering where the middle road is between feedback and developing. However, he seems to want to be credited during the development stage. Of course, i’m not buying it =3

congratulations, you have just typed something that appears in only one place in the entirety of the internet, I clap for you
you know the only real viable way to do this is to develop a split personality for that specific reason, like I have
…
lets not talk about it though, unless you rally, really want step into the insanity zone p;-).
yes, let’s
In the first panel misread Peanut’s comments for saying, “Okay so, who is writing these stories”. For a moment Rick I thought they were on to you! They must NEVER know…
Oops! I made a typo! I meant: “In the first panel I misread Peanut’s COMMENT”. I REALLY do hate typos…
Me too…
How did you even get a post refering to pannel 1 by its ordinal number approved? I thought that word was forbidden!
*ack!* Typo!
*Dies*
Well, when I posted those two comments it said, “User comment is awaiting moderation”. Apparently, Rick approved it, so I guess it isn’t banned.
Chow time is always the best time to think about technicalities.
No, really.
Also, so civil with the silverware. Nice.
Yeah my most least favorite sentence is, “You know what you should draw?”
And the one that comes right after that is also my most least favorite sentence.
And what is that?
Whatever they’re telling them to draw.
duh!
common sense fail
what you want to draw?… that one’s my least favorite, it doesn’t allow any scope creep
… especially when you don’t know what you want to draw yet
I like it when someone follows that question with a general idea, one that I can work off of and make my own
Peanut, Grape… I missed you guys… *hug*
“Gah! An invisible force from an alternate reality has got me! It’s… it’s… snuggly?!”
So, what is that? If comic characters doing impossible things is breaking the fourth wall, is that tearing it down? Or have we possibly found a new dimension – the fifth wall!?
sorry, this is just dimensional hopping. It’s no different than what Nightcrawler does.

I miss those guys T_T kinda makes me wonder how Fido and King are doing ._.
“see i have this idea, but YOU do all the work, then we split the profits” LOL thats Genius XD
I’ve always had these thoughts too actually
Too bad this has already been done before, peanut.
like the new avatar
*stares down* Skxawng. Rä’ä plltxe kawng fpi Uniltìrantokx!
evil Klingon… where is my career planning teacher when I need him? he understands this stuff…
No not Klingon, Na’vi.
Wait… you were talking about the movie (which I’ve seen three times already and want to see a fourth), right?
no
oh… sry ’bout what I said then… and thanks. It was actually part of a meme someone did. I only wish I could draw that well.
cool
How come it feels like they’ve grown an older look to theirselves?

Okay, this is getting upsetting. This comment was supposed to be a reply to Max Wolfe’s comment on February 17, 2010 at 5:48 am
What the heck is “oneth”?!
Fifth is the ordinal for “five”. Fourth is the ordinal for “four”. The correct ordinal for “one” is a forbidden word, so I’ve used “oneth” in its place
That word became forbidden because of stupid people who would jump in as soon as the comic updated and type “!”, didn’t it?
sry, that was supposed to be “forbidden word!” but the system thought of it as a command because I put ” around it.
well, they kinda have. animals age quicker than humans (you know, seven dog years to one year), and we haven’t seen them in a while. or it could be that you just forgot what they look like, because i don’t see it
i dint see it either
The wait is FINALLY OVAR !!!!
Yay !!!
BRILLIANT! Why didn’t I think of that?
Needs more corgis.
Or a pug; I don’t think we’ve had one of those yet.
I was thinking of one particular corgi. :3
Ooooh, he would probably appreciate being allowed to use a utencil
?
King!, It’s King! King is a Corgi!
oh
I’m thinkin’
that your thinkin’
Peanut needs a mind reader.
And I think I know who.
somebody give a straight comment!
Tarot! It’s Tarot! She’s a… okay, I’ll stop now
I’m thinking… your drinkin’… need to get out before you start swingin’…
Uh… totally unrelated…
i thought she was still talking about the corgi!
And it needs more chihuahuas to.
Yay for next part
XD LOL I have been like that before
Oh thank god. I missed these two.
this is kind of funny. half of the audience is cheering for the return of Peanut and Grape, and the other half is saying “we need more King/Fido and Spo/Wolves/Tarot/Slow-Motion Pillow Fights/etc…”

Rick! I have an idea for your 300th strip!!
Wait, what number are we on?
Slow motion pillow fights, or strip iterated prisoner’s dilemma?
hey, it’s the onlinecomics.net forums!
“i have a great idea, looking for artist/writer!” = every other topic.
you know, some one up there is using the name “icharus”, and your using “icarus”
…
just wanted to make sure you knew
i did not know!
this is going to sound reallllllllly of topic, but if ada is reading this, reply, because i have to ask you a question
Because if she watched over his shoulder she’d see his mistakes and how many times he rites cat girlfriend and scribbles it out…
Remember Spot (Superdog)?
“My girlfriend who despite all appearances is not a cat!”
peanut in 4th panel = win
didn’t you used to have an avatar?
He probably changed his e-mail address
Well, I’m sure he does know that Gravatar lets you change your email address….
Right? Right? Hope you’re not stealing someone else’s name!
Hate to join the crowd but… Yay! Peanut and Grape r back!

“Ideally, I would be lauded as brilliant beforehand, then someone else writes down my ideas.”
Hey, it works for Stephen King!
strange, grape is eating faster than penut
Has the inside of Peanut’s ears always been white? (panels 1 and 2)
They use spoons…to eat..out of…food bowls…?
…
huh…
Hehe, it took me a minute to realize WHY Peanut doesn’t want Grape looking over his shoulder as he writes… http://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/22/whoops-my-freudian-slipped/ much?
lol, tat’s probably why. I was thinking it was because he’ freeze up if she was that close to him XD
Would his secret be out before then, or would his face turning bright, bright red give away his secret?
Yay! It’s good to see Peanut and Grape again!
Yes, it is good to see them again!
Waaaaay off topic, but adorable F’nar avatar!!!
thank you
Ah!!! I just read the title of this strip and ‘lament’ was one of the words for my UIL pretest!!! (i missed it
)
ok. so, everyone is like “pets don’t use spoons”, and i knew i saw them eating with with their hand at least once. so i went from the very beging until i found it. low and behold:
but then again, that’s King
also on my search i found this (on accident):
go there and on the last panel, cover up everything below peanut’s colar
messed up! the first link is http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/12/09/munchies-and-crunchies-in-here-somewhere/
the second is http://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/09/09/next-on-food-network/
Why? To make the spoon look like a thermometer?
Also, November 28, 2008: Peanut and Grape are eating thanksgiving dinner with kife & fork
no! I mean the last panel of the second link!
and i did see thanksgiving, but it never occurred to me to list it
Links… missing… *gack!*
it disappears from time to time >:(
Well maby penuts gf psy powers getting to him?
Wait, what disappears?
comments…
i replied to the wrong person my bad=p
Ironically, it still made perfect sense

This is in no way a meta text!
Peanut needs to get J… King’s input on his comic.
I can see it now. “Pets performing crimes and other evil deeds? It’s just as I’ve been saying all along: deep down, you’re all nothing but animals… no offense”
Isn’t it mostly Moties doing the crimes and stuff?
Huh. I just noticed that the Story Arc tags are in alphabetical order… Why not chronological?
maybe, when he’s finally done the comic, reading it in alphabetical order will tell another story?? or tell the real story? O.o
please hold while I have a “THAT WOULD BE INSANE” moment.
Suddenly, Rick starts making Alternate Reality Games…
you know, if someone knew what you were thinking before you did anything with it, they could steal it and call it their own, right?, and if everyone you wanted to present the idea to already knew what the idea was they’d be bored of it, because it’s too expected.
And my post is in the middle… weird.
In case any future readers are confused, my post from February 18, 2010 at 12:31 pm (duly titled “The following post has been awaiting moderation since February 17at 9 AM.
